Several RV parks near Carlton, Georgia provide varied accommodations for motorhomes and travel trailers. Pine Lake RV Campground in Bishop features full hookup RV sites with 50-amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections. The campground supports big rigs with spacious pull-through RV pads and allows pets. "The sites at Hard Labor Creek are well spaced and the bath houses are spotless," noted one visitor, highlighting the clean facilities common to parks in this region. Thousand Trails Carolina Landing in Fair Play, South Carolina offers year-round camping with electric, water, and sewer hookups, though some sites lack sewer connections and require use of the dump station. Georgia RV Park in Commerce provides 50-amp service but prohibits campfires, creating a different atmosphere for overnight stays.

Navigation into several area RV parks requires careful planning due to steep terrain and tight turns. According to one visitor, "When you enter the park make sure you stay to the left of the sign. We made the mistake of going straight our first time at this park and almost lost our 5th wheel at the turn around by the lake." Cell service varies significantly between locations, with spotty coverage reported at some parks. Most RV campgrounds in the region maintain dump stations, though quality varies. Seasonal considerations affect availability, with fall being particularly busy at lakefront properties. Propane fill services are available at select locations, and laundry facilities are typically found near bathhouses. Pet policies generally allow dogs with standard restrictions, though enforcement of leash rules differs between parks.

      Tugaloo State Park Campground

      Great Lake

This is a great campground. Lots of spacious campsites. Lots of choices. We were lakeside on a pull through that was a bit short for us. The site was amazing we could kayak up to our site. Pet friendly, family friendly. Power, Electric, gray water dumps near each site. Washer and dryer in each bathhouse. A beautiful campground.

Hard Labor Creek State Park Campground

      One of the BEST!

We were back at HLC this past weekend and, as always, top-notch park! We have tent camped for several years but recently upgraded to a new (to us) pop up and we had a blast!

We camped at site 26 (one of the newer sites) and it had full hookup (our PUP does not have a bathroom but does have a galley). The site has electric (50 amp and 30 amp service) as well as free cable TV!!

The sites at HLC are well spaced and the bath houses are spotless!!

The park staff is amazing and the camp hosts are always cleaning up and are available if you need anything!

HLC is our go-to spot for a weekend getaway because of the above-mentioned reasons and it is close to home!!

      Springfield - Hartwell Lake

Nice well kept Corp of Engineers campground

This is a typical Corp of Engineers campground, well kept with a variety of pull through and back-in sites.  Sites are 50/30/20 electric with water, picnic table and fire ring.  Many sites have a tent pad, are very level packed gravel/sand and well situated with very few having very close neighbors.  Shade is at a premium on some sites due to cutting of pine trees a couple of years ago but almost all are waterfront with an excellent view.  Some sites have direct access to the water allowing boats right at the site and swimming.  The swimming beach is very nice and well maintained as are the playgrounds.  Three bath houses are convenient to all loops, well maintained and clean.  Cell service is very good as is over the air TV with numerous channels available.  The dump station is easy in/out.  Sites 10 through 40 have awesome views of Lake Hartwell.

      Mistletoe State Park Campground

Gorgeous and Tranquil in the Woods

This place was so perfect and our first camping experience with our new 40 foot RV! Check-in was easy and they even let us change to a pull-through site last minute. The grounds were sooooo gorgeous! Trees everywhere. Walking trails. And of course the lake. We went during fall colors so it was really magical.

PROS: Clean restrooms, spacious RV sites (they felt very private), many bathhouses within walking distance, friendly staff, nice gift shop

CONS: wet firewood and of course you had to buy from them, playground very small- made more for toddlers/preschool age, less than 5 years old, long walk to the dumpsters

      Thousand Trails Carolina Landing

      Lake and Woods Campground

The campground itself is gorgeous, heavily wooded and lots of hills. It has great access to Lake Hartwell, and lots of sites. The sites are very close together throughout most of the park. The park also has lots of hills which can be a challenge for some RVs. There are also some very tight turns on these hills. Some campsites are level, some are very unlevel, there are lots of seasonal sites with built in porches making it very tight to get into the travelers spots that are mixed throughout the park.

When you enter the park make sure you stay to the left of the sign. We made the mistake of going straight our first time at this park and almost lost our 5th wheel at the turn around by the lake. If you miss the turn you are safer backing up to the entrance.

Cell Service: AT&T was minimal, T-Mobile was minimal.

Not all sites have sewer and there is a pump out service for a fee. They do have a dump station but it is not easy or ideal to move throughout the park once parked.

Each site had a picnic table, some had a fire ring. Some sites are full hook up, many do not have sewer at the site.

As of 2019 this park needed a lot of upgrades to the majority of the sites, such as fire rings, new picnic tables. The sides of the road were washing out from water run off. These were things also needed in 2018.

Amenities: Laundry Swimming Pool Dump Station Club House Pool Tables Lake Access (Lake Hartwell) Basketball Court Volleyball Playground Storage Lot Beach area Fishing

Watson Mill Bridge State Park Campground

      Great little state park

Real friendly staff. Nicely laid out, but I guess could be challenging for really big rigs. W & E with dump station and pretty good facilities

Cell coverage a little challenging but managed to get enough download for Visible to stream Netflix. Too many trees to break out Starlink

      Trails are a fun walk.

      Don Carter State Park Campground

Love the view from our site 13

Really nice state park located at north end of Lake Lanier. Site 13 was great. Had woods and lake view. Paved pull through site with gravel pad for picnic and fire pit area. Plenty of room for camper, cars and boat trailer. Bathroom facilities were extremely clean, well lighted, no spiders or bugs, etc. Enjoyed fishing and kayaking. Nice beach and swim area, boat docks and 2 boat launch sites, playground, etc. Saw lots of deer and enjoyed walking some of the trails. Will plan a trip in cooler weather fall or spring. Camp hosts were helpful and visitor center staff were very nice. Great cell service too.

      Don Carter State Park Campground

Nice state park close to Atlanta

This park is one of the newest in the GA state system and it shows based on how new the facilities look. The we camped at site 10 of the walk-in camp sites. There was one bathroom facility with flush toilets, but no showers. It looked like one could use the beach showers, but they were still close for winter. Site 10 was a nice spot with a decent distance from other sites. We were there at the beginning of spring. Once the tree coverage grows back in the site would be more secluded. There are many miles of hiking trails that are interconnected so one can make the a long challenging hike if so inclined. Overall this park was a nice basic state park, but seemed to be more of a day use park for locals than a destination park like many of the other GA state parks.

    Guide to Carlton

Nestled in northeastern Georgia, Carlton sits within rolling hills at approximately 700 feet elevation where campers experience mild spring and fall temperatures ideal for outdoor activities. Summer humidity can reach 85-90% with temperatures in the 90s, making water access particularly valuable. Camping options range from lakeside properties to forest settings with varying levels of amenities and terrain challenges.

    What to do

Fishing at Lake Hartwell: At Big Water Marina & RV Park, visitors enjoy direct lake access with boat, paddleboard, and kayak rentals available. "We love this spot. Most of the camp spots are not shaded, but right on the water. Boat rentals are available as well as paddle boards and kayaks," notes Sarah P.

Hiking nearby trails: The area surrounding many campgrounds offers hiking opportunities with seasonal variations. "We enjoyed being on the top of the mountain by ourselves, sipping coffee and hot chocolate. The leaves and trees were beautiful, changing back to green and getting ready for the summertime," shares Ashley W. about hiking near Carolina Landing.

Swimming options: Pool facilities vary widely between rv parks Carlton, Georgia. "The swimming pool is green, but I expect that will change soon," observed one camper at Carolina Landing, while others mentioned well-maintained pool areas with cabanas and seating at other properties.

    What campers like

    What you should know

Navigation hazards: Several campgrounds feature challenging terrain. "The park also has lots of hills which can be a challenge for some RVs. There are also some very tight turns on these hills," warns a visitor about Carolina Landing.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground availability: Check operating hours before promising playground time to children. "We had our grandson with us and the playground was closed off, and the pool closed at 4:30," reported a visitor at Carolina Landing, highlighting the importance of verifying facility hours.

Kid-friendly activities: Currahee RV Park provides creek access at select sites. "We were lucky enough to get a spot overlooking a creek on the property. We had a little deck that was perfect to back our toy hauler up to and open the back," shares Addie, describing a setup children enjoy.

Site spacing considerations: For families needing space, research site dimensions carefully. "The sites at Pine Lake are nicely maintained," notes one camper, while others mention tighter arrangements at other properties where privacy can be limited.

Pull-through availability: For easier setup, some campgrounds offer convenient options. "We stopped here as an overnight on our way to our final destination. They were very hospitable and put us into an easy pull through site that we could easily just come in and go out the next morning," explains Spencer & Jessica S. about Pine Lake RV Campground.

Site selection for big rigs: The Point at Lake Hartwell offers designated larger sites. "We were in site G4 (which was considered a larger site, we have a 38ft 5th wheel), my nephew was in site F5 & both sites were easy to get into with no issues," reports Jackie J., providing specific site numbers helpful for planning.
