Jupiter, Florida camping sites span from coastal areas to inland wildlife management zones. The region's humid subtropical climate creates warm summers and mild winters, ideal for year-round camping. Most campgrounds sit at elevations under 50 feet above sea level, with sandy soil conditions common throughout the area.
What to do
Kayaking on the Loxahatchee River: At Jonathan Dickinson State Park, the Loxahatchee River provides excellent paddling opportunities. "Really had a fantastic time at this campground... you could also rent boats and paddle up river alongside manatees to the wild man encampment," notes Anjuli W.
Mountain biking trails: Multiple skill levels of trails exist throughout the region. "There are 9 miles of mountain biking with trail skill levels ranging from green to black diamond, rated like ski slopes. They are lined with crushed shell and gravel which makes them flowing and fast," shares Shannon K. about Jonathan Dickinson State Park.
Nature viewing: The J.W. Corbett WMA offers extensive wildlife watching opportunities. "Although this area doesn't have full hookups, it does provide plenty of room to camp, hike, nature view and hunting plus more," explains Lisa C.
What campers like
Open camping areas: Many campers appreciate the spacious sites available. "There was a ton of room for us when we went to pitch our tent. The area also has plenty of space for RV and their hook ups," reports Nick P. about Jonathan Dickinson State Park.
Free camping options: Budget-conscious campers can find no-cost sites. "FREE stay, register at the SFWMD site and request a permit. Each site has a fire pit and picnic table. Various trees at the camp sites to provide shade," shares J R. about DuPuis Campground.
Beach proximity: The proximity to coastal areas is a major draw. "Blowing Rocks Preserve beach is about 10 min away on the other side of the intercostal. It is a spectacular site! Limestone cliffs line the beach, and a hard bottom reef lines the shores making for incredible snorkeling," describes Shannon K.
What you should know
Seasonal considerations: May through June offers optimal conditions for camping and water activities. "We generally stay in the months of May and June as the ocean is quite cold in the spring months. It gets hot, it's Florida. There are bugs, it's camping in nature," advises Shannon K.
Reservation timing: Popular campgrounds fill quickly. "Make your reservations early as it books up a year ahead of time," warns Edward R. about Jonathan Dickinson State Park.
Limited amenities at primitive sites: Some locations offer minimal facilities. "I couldn't locate the faucet, but supposedly there is one. You need the code for the combination lock to open the gate which is included with the permit," explains J R. about DuPuis Campground.
Tips for camping with families
Multiple camping sections: Jonathan Dickinson offers various camping areas suitable for different family needs. "They have two parts. First one is few miles from main hwy with primitive sites for tents and small RVs. We stayed in the tent in the section closer to the highway. Very nice and clean. Had fire and bbq with kids," recommends Michael S.
Kid-friendly activities: The region provides numerous outdoor options for children. "This is an awesome campground for families. Tons to do. We love the mountain biking trails. Perfect for all levels and ages," shares Edward R.
