Best RV Parks & Resorts near Willington, CT

Wilderness Lake Park in Willington offers RV sites with water and electric hookups through a mid-December season. The campground features 50-amp connections for larger motorhomes alongside sewer hookups at most sites. Nearby, Aces High RV Park in East Lyme provides big-rig friendly sites with pull-through access and concrete pads for easy leveling. Thousand Trails Sturbridge, located approximately 30 miles northwest in Massachusetts, maintains full hookup sites with 50-amp service but offers more limited big rig access. Most parks in the region provide fire rings, picnic tables, and trash collection with varying site dimensions. "Not all sites are secluded, but we were the only ones so it was nice and private," noted one camper about the spacing at Wilderness Lake Park.

Seasonal availability varies across northeastern Connecticut RV parks, with most operating from April through October. Cell service can be problematic at several locations, particularly at Thousand Trails Sturbridge where one visitor reported "bad cell reception" that made remote work challenging. All parks in the region accept pets with standard leash restrictions. Dump stations are available at Wilderness Lake Park and Thousand Trails Sturbridge, though not at all facilities. Travelers should note that some parks have limited store hours, with Pine Lake's camp store operating only from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM according to visitor feedback. Reservations are strongly recommended during summer and fall foliage season when occupancy rates increase significantly throughout the region.

    Douglas Forest RV Resort

    Awesome Campground In The Forest

We had an incredible stay at Douglas Forest RV Resort! From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by how peaceful and well-maintained everything was. The RV sites are spacious and easy to navigate, with full hookups and strong Wi-Fi— a big plus for us since we work remotely on the road. What really sets this place apart is the location. You’re literally steps away from Douglas State Forest, which made morning hikes and evening strolls absolutely magical. It’s pet-friendly too, and our dog loved the wooded trails and open areas. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and the camp store had everything we needed. Even though the recreation area is still being built, the amenities already in place more than made up for it. We’re already planning our next trip for summer when the pool opens! If you’re looking for a relaxing spot that blends nature with convenience, look no further. Douglas Forest RV Resort is a true hidden gem!

    Mystic KOA

Great campground for coastal CT & RI

We stayed at Mystic KOA in North Stonington, Connecticut, to be tourists in Mystic. Spoiler alert… we had a great stay!

This campground is just 15-minutes from Mystic and about an hour’s drive to Newport, Rhode Island. It’s just a few minutes from I-95 and so close to Mystic Aquarium, downtown Mystic, Mystic Seaport, and all the local spots.

It’s a well-maintained campground with 2 pools(though the larger one was closed for maintenance during our stay), lots of play areas and daily activities for little ones, and a cool“pub truck” for adult drinks. Our site(#408) was about 85’ long with plenty of room for our 45’ motorhome and toad(and then some!). It was level and gravel with a nice fire ring and picnic table. The hookups worked fine with 50-amp electric and decent water pressure. Cable TV had nearly 50-channels, but the wi-fi didn’t quite reach our part of the park.

Due to a family issue, we needed to leave about a day-and-a-half early. We called the office as a courtesy to let them know as we were pulling out and received a partial credit for a night’s stay on our credit card. Didn’t even ask, they just did it. Thanks Mystic KOA!

We’ll definitely be back. This is a great place to stay when visiting the coastal Connecticut/Rhode Island area.

    Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park in Sturbridge - [CLOSED}

    Pine lake , Sturbridge Ma.

I’m told that this used to be Jellystone.

It’s now called Pine Lake Rv and cottages.

Not knowing what the previous campground was like I can’t compare. But the new owners surely did a total revamp. There is approximately 30 cottages and many pull through and back in sites for any size RV.

The bathroom/showers were all new and very nice and clean. It seems to be very family friendly. There’s an 8 acre lake with kayaks and fishing, a basketball court,   a game pavilion and a well stocked store. The RV sites are   spacious and pretty close to near perfect level.

The problems I came across was there were very few places to dispose of camp trash, I had to actually walk around looking for one. The camp store doesn’t open until 9:00AM and closes at 4:00PM

If you can, try and NOT stay on the back upper level ( the 700 ) spots. It’s around 100 feet from a very busy road and loud !

    Wawaloam Campground

    Family friendly, great campstore, quiet

We stayed here from a Tuesday to Thursday with our 21ft travel trailer & our dog. We had site 50. It was private, a great size & has water/electric. We had good cover on our site & the area our site was in was super quiet. There are both seasonal and regular sites on this campground. The camp store has everything you might need. The front gate staff are friendly and helpful. There seemed to be lots of activities on the weekends & it's definitely a family friendly/kid friendly spot. Dog friendly too! Lots of other campers had their dogs w them. We used this as our home base to visit Newport, which is about 35 min from the campground.

What campers like

Spacious sites with utilities: Many parks in the area offer generously sized lots with full hookups. One visitor at Aces High RV Park commented, "Pull through sites also have lots of space between them so you don't feel like you are on top of the neighbors. Sites and roads are a pea gravel material and each site has large grassy areas around it."

Clean, modern facilities: Campers frequently praise the quality of bathrooms and shower facilities at several locations. "The bathrooms in the campground were newer and immaculate. This 'resort' has lots of amenities," noted one guest at Sun Outdoors Mystic who appreciated the well-maintained facilities.

Natural surroundings: The wooded settings and water features receive consistent positive feedback. A visitor to Aces High RV Park shared, "Beautiful pond and natural setting with lots of ducks, geese, chickens, and wild birds."

What you should know

Varying cell reception: Mobile connectivity can be inconsistent throughout the region. At Thousand Trails Sturbridge, a camper reported, "Camp link Wifi for a fee is workable unless you need to do zoom calls," indicating that remote work capabilities may be limited at some sites.

Limited site seclusion: Privacy levels differ significantly between parks and specific site locations. At Thousand Trails Sturbridge, a visitor mentioned, "I was probably the only person tent camping in the entire resort. The manager was able to give me a great campsite away from all of the RVs and cabins."

Buddy site configurations: For multi-family trips, consider special site layouts. A camper at Sun Outdoors Mystic explained, "We camped here with friends and got one of the 'buddy sites' so our patios faced each other. I like this configuration when camping with friends but would not like this site if we did not know our neighbors."

Tips from RVers

Electrical system considerations: When RV camping near Willington, Connecticut, check power stability before arrival. At Camp Coldbrook Golf & RV Resorts, one RVer cautioned, "The electrical system has claimed countless rv components and 2 total losses. Instead of fixing it, they simply run generators for years. If you go take every precaution from the electrical. It's dangerous."

Site levelness: Many parks offer concrete pads for easier setup. At Aces High RV Park, a visitor appreciated that "Clean, well-maintained, and level site with concrete pad and patio (I love a clean, level concrete pad!)."

Maintenance standards: Quality of facility upkeep varies widely between parks. At Douglas Forest RV Resort, a visitor observed, "The road system requires maintenance- while some fresh gravel has been applied, many intersections remain challenging for larger trailers due to poor grading and poorly placed boulders."
