Best RV Parks & Resorts near Tariffville, CT

Several RV parks operate within 30 miles of Tariffville, Connecticut, providing various hookup options for recreational vehicles. Lake Compounce Campground in Bristol offers full hookup sites with water and electric connections, accommodating large rigs from May through October. Aces High RV Park in East Lyme features spacious sites with electric, water, and sewer hookups plus a dump station for convenience. Prospect Mountain Campground in Granville, Massachusetts welcomes RVs with big-rig friendly sites and 50-amp electrical service during their May to Columbus Day season. Site dimensions vary considerably throughout the region, with some parks offering pull-through spaces while others have back-in only arrangements. "This place isn't a camp ground it's a parking lot for RVs. They made the roads so narrow to squeeze in so many sites, it's almost impossible to navigate an rv through, even for experienced rvers," noted one visitor to Lone Oak Campsites.

Advance reservations are strongly recommended during peak summer months and fall foliage season when motorhome sites fill quickly. Wilderness Lake Park and several other facilities maintain year-round operations with reduced winter services. Most parks welcome pets but enforce leash requirements and designated dog areas. Based on reviews from The Dyrt, cell service varies significantly throughout the region with stronger signals at lower elevation campgrounds. Sanitary dump stations are available at most parks, though several reviewers mentioned station maintenance issues during busy periods. Winter travelers should note that many water systems are winterized from November through April, limiting full hookup availability. Several campgrounds provide propane fill services on-site, while others require trips to nearby towns for refills and supplies. Seasonal RV sites are available at multiple locations for longer-term stays.

    Douglas Forest RV Resort

    Awesome Campground In The Forest

We had an incredible stay at Douglas Forest RV Resort! From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by how peaceful and well-maintained everything was. The RV sites are spacious and easy to navigate, with full hookups and strong Wi-Fi— a big plus for us since we work remotely on the road. What really sets this place apart is the location. You’re literally steps away from Douglas State Forest, which made morning hikes and evening strolls absolutely magical. It’s pet-friendly too, and our dog loved the wooded trails and open areas. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and the camp store had everything we needed. Even though the recreation area is still being built, the amenities already in place more than made up for it. We’re already planning our next trip for summer when the pool opens! If you’re looking for a relaxing spot that blends nature with convenience, look no further. Douglas Forest RV Resort is a true hidden gem!

    Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park in Sturbridge - [CLOSED}

    Pine lake , Sturbridge Ma.

I’m told that this used to be Jellystone.

It’s now called Pine Lake Rv and cottages.

Not knowing what the previous campground was like I can’t compare. But the new owners surely did a total revamp. There is approximately 30 cottages and many pull through and back in sites for any size RV.

The bathroom/showers were all new and very nice and clean. It seems to be very family friendly. There’s an 8 acre lake with kayaks and fishing, a basketball court,   a game pavilion and a well stocked store. The RV sites are   spacious and pretty close to near perfect level.

The problems I came across was there were very few places to dispose of camp trash, I had to actually walk around looking for one. The camp store doesn’t open until 9:00AM and closes at 4:00PM

If you can, try and NOT stay on the back upper level ( the 700 ) spots. It’s around 100 feet from a very busy road and loud !

    A nice family friendly campground

This is a nice family friendly campground that makes for easy trips. There are a variety of sites available, from open field sites to more wooded and private areas. The campground also has a lake for swimming, trails for hiking, and some nice quiet areas for fishing. Well maintained bathrooms, with available showers, are also spread throughout the grounds. Not pet friendly unfortunately.

    Wolf's Den Family Campground

    Perfect location central in Connecticut

This place is off Route 9 in Connecticut on the east side of the Connecticut River (major RT 9 highway is on west side). You need to cross the river via bridge to Goodspeed Opera house and past to get to the RV campground. Nearby attractions are Gillette Castle and Goodspeed Opera. The campground itself is realy nice. Cable TV at most sites. Only electric 30 or 50A, and water; but there are a few dumpstations around in the camp. Very peaceful. There are activities on Friday and Saturday (like Bingo). Great store with extended hours. The camp staff will help you with anything. Really long or tall RV will need to stay close to the front of the campground, as typical older campground is not designed for 40 foot long or 10 foot high campers.

    Aces High RV Park

    Peaceful

Well organized campground with both water front back in sites as well as large pull throughs. Pull through sites also have lots of space between them so you don't feel like you are on top of the neighbors. Sites and roads are a pea gravel material and each site has large grassy areas around it. It was a quiet area with ponds and creeks and a generally relaxing setting. It has a clean playground and well maintained pool as well as some walking paths, large grassy areas, pavilion and volleyball court. All sites but one (#67) are full hook up. Some seasonal sites but all were tasteful and not trashy looking. We enjoyed the shade trees on our site (#3) and noticed many sites had similar trees, but the owner keeps them trimmed to not interfere when parking on your site. There is also a creek area for dog swimming. Our two labs loved it! Local kayaking areas and about 30 min to Foxwoods Casino, even closer to Mohegan Sun. Mystic Seaport and Mystic Aquarium are also not too far. Nearby (5min drive) is also a fun looking place for mini golf. Will definitely be back!

Guide to Tariffville

Recreational vehicle camping near Tariffville, Connecticut offers options within 30-60 minutes of this small village located in northern Connecticut. This area experiences distinct seasons with humid summers averaging 85°F and winter temperatures regularly dropping below freezing from December through February. Camping elevations range from 200 to 1,200 feet above sea level, with most campgrounds situated in wooded areas or near small lakes.

What to do

Fishing access: Lake Taghkanic State Park Campground provides multiple fishing opportunities with a clean, calm lake. "Great beach, 5 minute drive from campgound. Clean facilities, with a rec room for rainy days," notes Kurt S. The park maintains a catch-and-release fishing area and rents boats during the regular season.

Swimming options: Several campgrounds maintain swimming facilities beyond just pools. "The lake is beautiful and clean. Expect to pay $15 fee (I think) to use your paddleboards/kyacks etc. Worth every penny," shares Mellisa T. about Lake Taghkanic State Park Campground.

Hiking trails: Many campgrounds connect to larger trail networks. "There is a huge area of woods with a walking trail starting at the edge of the campground. I enjoyed stretching my legs," says Mara S. from Thousand Trails Sturbridge. The Taconic State Park system offers multiple trail difficulties within a 45-minute drive of Tariffville.

What campers like

Peaceful atmosphere: The region offers quieter camping experiences away from urban centers. "Very friendly and a great place for kids. Nice pool with time for adult only swim time," writes Gale S. about Prospect Mountain Campground and RV Park.

Clean facilities: Campgrounds maintaining good bathhouse conditions receive consistent praise. "Showers are hot and there's great water pressure. The cleanliness of the bathrooms depends on how busy the campground is," explains Perrin M. about Lake Taghkanic State Park.

Spacious sites: Many campers appreciate the roomier layouts at certain parks. "Pull through sites also have lots of space between them so you don't feel like you are on top of the neighbors. Sites and roads are a pea gravel material and each site has large grassy areas around it," details April L. from Aces High RV Park.

What you should know

Cell service challenges: Reception varies significantly across the region. "First main issue was how bad the cell reception is. Normally, I'd say that's a perk for camping but we're full-timers and work on the road so it is important for us," reports Sammii D. about Thousand Trails Sturbridge.

Off-season limitations: Many campgrounds reduce services outside summer months. "We stayed in August 2020. Almost all of the sites have platforms to pitch your tent on, although there are a couple of flatter spots without platforms," explains Katherine P. about Rudd Pond Area — Taconic State Park.

Site selection matters: Not all campsites offer the same experience. "Beware of site G006. The grill at the fire pit is upside down, so it doesn't hold level above the fire. Impossible to use," warns Kurt S. at Lake Taghkanic. Review campground maps carefully before booking.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Several campgrounds organize regular events for children. "Prospects mountain is a great campground for families with younger kids. They have activities every weekend such as dances, bingo, hayrides," explains Sandra S. from Prospect Mountain Campground.

Playground access: Most family-oriented campgrounds maintain play areas. "Very friendly and a great place for kids. Nice pool with time for adult only swim time," notes Gale S. about Prospect Mountain Campground.

Family swimming options: Lake Compounce Campground provides clean facilities and recreational options. "Easy entry, long pull thrus. You will face your neighbor door to door but enough room between you don't feel invaded. Restrooms are clean and spacious. Showers are great," explains Diane R.

Tips from RVers

Hookup reliability: Electrical systems vary in quality and capacity. "Clean, family friendly campground. Pet friendly with plenty of area to walk. Close to I-95 and 15 minutes from the beach. Fishing areas for the kids. Spots are well organized and no issues with hookups," mentions Tom S. about Aces High RV Park.

Navigation challenges: Some parks have tight interior roads. "Very well maintained and friendly staff will stay again when in the area. Does not have sewer hookups, but does have a dump station," reports Ray B. about Lake Compounce Campground.

Winter accessibility: Most campgrounds close completely or offer limited winter services. Research carefully if planning off-season RV camping near Tariffville, Connecticut as water systems are typically winterized from November through April.
