Best RV Parks & Resorts near Cowdrey, CO

Sentinel Mountain RV & Quick Stop provides full hookups for motorhomes and travel trailers in Cowdrey, Colorado, with level gravel sites that accommodate various RV sizes. Just 30 miles south, North Michigan Campground in State Forest State Park offers big-rig friendly sites with 30/50 amp electrical service, water, and sewer hookups available year-round. Eagle Soaring RV Park in Steamboat Springs features pull-through sites with full hookups including 50 amp service, though the sites are positioned fairly close together. "Sites are gravel for the RV, very level, and very well maintained. All sites are pull through. Hookups are in very good condition," notes one RV camper who stayed at Eagle Soaring. The Grand Lake/Rocky Mountain National Park KOA Journey rounds out the regional options with big-rig friendly sites operating from mid-May through early October.

Cell service varies significantly throughout the region's RV parks. Sentinel Mountain RV & Quick Stop reports mixed AT&T coverage ranging from 1-2 bars of 4G/LTE to 4 bars of 3G depending on location within the park. Most RV campgrounds in the area welcome pets and provide standard amenities like showers, toilets, and trash service. Dump stations are available at several locations, though not all parks have on-site facilities. Winter RV camping options are limited, with North Michigan Campground being one of the few year-round operations. The mountain roads leading to some parks may present challenges during winter months, particularly for larger motorhomes. Propane is available at select locations, and laundry facilities can be found at North Michigan Campground and Dutch Hill Campground at Steamboat Lake State Park.

    Eagle Soaring RV Park

Nice place to stay when visiting the area

We stayed at Eagle Soaring campground for three nights. We were in our class C while slowly making our way across the country. We had no problems getting a spot here. Sites are gravel for the RV, very level, and very well maintained. All sites are pull through. Hookups are in very good condition. Each site had a narrow grassy area with trees. Tables and fire pits were not available at the campsite. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

There were not a lot of amenities. There was a large meadow separating the campground from the road. Seating areas with fire pits were available by the meadow.  Showers and laundry are not available.

Steamboat Springs is just a few miles down the road. There are many indoor and outdoor activities to do in the area.

The campground is conveniently located a few miles off the highway. The road noise is distant and we did not notice at all in the RV.

We had 2 bar LTE with Verizon. Our hotspot was usable and performed very well. The campground wifi was average at best.

We enjoyed the peace and quiet of this campground.  The trees and meadow helped create a relaxing place to stay.  We will stay again when traveling this way.

North Park Campground — State Forest State Park

    Old KOA turned around!

This used to be a KOA campground that the state took back over and has refurbished. Brand new full hook up connection, connections, picnic tables, fire rings, gravel area with decomposed granite, shower house is BRAND NEW. So quiet and easy on and off the highway. Some highway noise but no semis and little traffic. Very little cell service- like 1 bar on Verizon. Would definitely come back. Little services so bring what you need. Walden is 20 miles down the road. We had a great pull through site with only one neighbor backing up to forest.

    Bellaire Lake Campground

    Peaceful, beautiful getaway!

By far my favorite campground but this is for the “in the woods” not flaming folks. Your rig will get dirty and it’s worth it! Beautiful well spaced and clean sites. Great views and great beginner rock piles for the kids to climb on. Definitely all the good and bad that comes with altitude. We had one night the moon was so bright it was daylight and the next night the fog settled and you couldn’t see your hand infront of you. Nearish to a cute little town but bring your own entertainment, hammock because this is a place to relax and enjoy the outdoors not a parking lot to hold your camper while you seek tourist hotspots. Lots of FFS and we could have fit our big rig (40’ toy hauler) in most of them except site 7 you have to back straight uphill and would be hard to hitch or unhitch anything over 20’ let alone leveling. Camp hosts are great! Bring cash ATM is 40 minutes round trip. It is a dirt road in but very well maintained. One small 20’ section is a good climb on dirt pulling a big rig make sure you have good tires. There’s a beautiful lake but posted no swimming. Fish were jumping out of the water and there’s nice docks to sit on. There is water but no threaded attachment to fill tanks so you must bring buckets or water jugs. Yes there are mosquitoes and humming birds and lots of chipmunks. Absolutely loved it but we do prefer remote non-glamping even with a big rig.

    Steamboat Springs KOA

Just a minute outside of Steamboat

Right outside of Steamboat Springs is Steamboat KOA. This campground has so many perks. Not only is there a beautiful Mountain View but it also has the Yampa river running through it. It has Rv sites, cute cabins, and tent sites. The Rv sites are separated in areas by what you need(electric, water, sewage). The RV sites each have picnic tables and a fire ring. There are regular cabins and deluxe ones which both include tables and fire rings. The tent area is located across the river and is so peaceful. There is a general store, putt putt, propane fill, a small dog run, bikes for rent, swimming in season and the city bus comes to take you to town for free. Although it is located right off the road, it was still peaceful and I felt safe. My favorite part about this campground is the fact you can stand on the bridge or sit by the Yampa River and enjoy the beauty and sounds, and watching people fly fish.

Timber Creek Campground — Rocky Mountain National Park

    Beautiful campground

Loved this campground in Rocky Mountain NP! Full of new growth pine trees. Elk wondered through on some days. Depending on site, lots of privacy. Not for big rigs, but perfect for vans, tents and smaller trailers. Bathrooms clean, flush toilets. Only drawback to this stay - the dump station was already closed down for the season. Water was available. We found a dump station down the road in Stillwater Recreational area.

    Glen Echo Resort

    Quite and relaxing

We have stayed here twice, our favorite spot is 43, it is a roomy spot next to the river. Campground is very peaceful at night. There are not that many spots due to long term camping. They are close quarter rv spots, but plenty of room behind campers for campfires. Be prepared there is no phone or TV signal due to mountains. WiFi is available, but you have to go up to the store. We love this place and will make future trips there. Sites are all full hookup.

RJourney Laramie RV Resort (formerly Laramie KOA)

    Nice park but tight spots.

We stayed at The Laramie KOA in August 2021. This is a FHU RV Park which offers a variety of sites including premium extra large pull-thru sites. We opted to save the added expense of the premium sites and stayed at a regular pull thru-site. These sites are very close together which was difficult to negotiate into with our fifth wheel. The sites are so close together that I had my neighbors sewer hose directly in front of my camp chair between my legs. 😳👎🏻 Next time we will opt for a premium site because this is a very nice, well maintained KOA with an excellent staff. There is a nice dog run here and lots of green space to walk dogs. We were able to receive mail here, also. All in all, we would recommend this park and enjoyed our stay here. If you would like to see videos of this park and others, please check out our YouTube channel: Jeff & Steff’s Excellent Adventure.

    Beaver Meadows Resort Ranch

    A variety of camping options

We camped here in a trailer for almost a week. We were shocked at the availability of spaces given that Colorado is notoriously booked up by February.

Our space was The Overlook and it had an amazing view. The stable horses came up next to the site every morning. It is a massive site that accommodated our trailer, a 2-person tent, 2 vehicles and still had room to spare. The only downsides were no picnic table, little shade, and lots of wind up there.

We drove around to view the other sites. Many options including walk-in sites, riverside camping, and campsites with corrals for horse camping. If you have a larger trailer, avoid the lower sites. Keep to 1-5 or the Overlook for access.

There are stocked trout ponds. You have to pay an additional fee to fish in them. We bought fish food and never saw a fish. The ponds really needed to be maintained as there was a lot of weed growth.

The office is on the first floor of the condo building. Usually open until 4 pm. There is a restaurant (closed while we were there).

    Showers are available for $5.

A gift shop/store is available with various small items and treats.

WiFi is available at the office and restaurant. Campsites are too far away. Couldn’t reach it with our WiFi extender either. (Normally wouldn’t want to but working sucks.)

Water for trailers is available bit a tad challenging to access simply because of sharp turns. I can’t speak to water availability for lower campsites.

Trash containers at both the lodge area and at the lower campground.

There is no dump on-site. However, there is a fee-based dump about 1.5 miles away in the Crystal Lakes Community. $10 per use with free water.

The stables are managed separately but are directly across the road. Super friendly and reasonable rates for trail rides. Our 5 & 7 year old granddaughters were able to ride their own horses and had trail riders lead them. Super nice folks!

This is open year-round (condos/cabins in winter) with tubing, skating, and X-country skiing in winter.
