Target tree is an awesome campground at the southwestern edge of the rockies about 25 miles south of Durango

Target Tree has awesome campsites. It sits between Mesa Verde and Durango and is a perfect launch for this area. All kinds of activities are nearby. Spectacular Colorado mountains and scenery. Silverton and the Million Dollar Highway are nearby if you dare. Fishing everywhere, hiking trails, wildlife, and cool weather.

Durango has a lot of campgrounds nearby, but they aren't really RV oriented. Target Tree is an excellent RV campground with large sites and plenty of room. The camp host is great, friendly, and helpful.

Not bad.

good:

Only 20 minutes from Mesa Verde NP gate.

It is developed camping, but not right on top of each-other.

Pit toilets were clean, potable water spigots everywhere, whole camp is clean and well kept by the camp host.

not great:

Road noise is not awesome. Try to get the sites furthest back.

IF you are tent camping, the tent pads are chipped rock, not round gravel. Bring an extra tarp or two to protect your tent footprint.

Handy, pretty, clean, loud.

Rig was running a bit rough over the last pass, so I took the advice of the lady at the forest service office in Durango and stopped at this Campground right off highway 160. When I learned there were plenty of vacancies, I decided to stick here through the holiday weekend. The views are phenomenal. Breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. Starry nights when I stay awake long enough. Decent easy hiking. Toilet clean and close. Some drinking water taps, especially in loop B, dispense very bleachy water. All-day highway noise in an acoustically perfect valley keeps this place's popularity limited.

Nice Spot on the Way to MVNP

Pros: Really nice big camping spots, pit toilets not too far of a walk, firewood available from hosts, convenient location

Cons: first come first served (I think some people missed out even this late in the season), quite a bit of road noise at times due to being next to a big hill on the motorway

Great campground in our van

We reserved 6 nites here. Host B is in his 2 nd yr here and is a peach of a guy. All campsites are carefully raked and put in good shape - no ashes left in rings. Host sells .75 sq ft of firewood for $7 / bundle or 3 for $20. Good water hauled in from Durango and available at numerous spigots thruout camp. 2 very clean pit toilet bathroom facilities w/ 2 heads at each.

Amazing campground

Beautiful well spaced sites with plenty of room to spread out. Sparkling clean bathrooms. Road noise but it’s not so bad at night. Great camp host. Firewood and water. Lots of hiking nearby.

Nice place for a couple nights

Went to Mesa Verde NP looking for a camp sight but refused to pay $40 for a dried grassy area with no hookups so we came just down the road and found this place. Quiet, level spaces, a little road noise but nothing to bark about. Would come back here again

No water

We camped here on day 2. We were traveling on motorcycles and chose this based on location, and available water. The we site said it had water. There are other campgrounds in the area. It was almost empty a +, the water was not turned on a- . Campground was clean and quiet and far enough from the highway that only a little traffic noise came threw.
A good number of cars were driving threw, the camphost was very friendly and appologised about the lack of water. She said the cars were people from the highway stopping to use the bathroom. Water would make it a 4*.
I rode down to Mancus to buy water. There was no available water to filter. Mancus is a very small but nice town with a grocery store. Ice cream and 2 gallons of water, then back up the hill.
