Sign right at the parking area says no tent or car camping - RVs only. Would’ve been great if we hadn’t been in a car, beautiful views
Best Parking Lot Camp EVER!
Salt Point State Park has several camping options: Gerstle Cove CG ($35/night), Woodside CG ($35/night), hiker/biker camping ($5/night), and Overflow camping ($30/night). This review is for the Overflow Camping, which we thought was amazing.
This spot is amazing! You have ocean view and various hiking trails to keep you occupied. It is basically a parking lot but we were able to get a corner spot with no neighbor with awesome views. The lot is large and suitable for any size rig. Easy turnaround, unless there are a lot of other vehicles. You just have to pull in and find any spot and set up, but maybe don’t hog the good view by parking parallel along the ocean view side…that’s a jerk move.
$30 for basically "lot docking" seemed steep at first but then who would stay in the regular campground with a view like this? There are no amenities in overflow lot, and no fires allowed. Only self-contained vehicles are allowed to camp here. No tents.
Further down the road there are bathrooms and trash at the day use parking area.
Slow but usable cell service from ATT and Verizon

Very clean, beautiful campground
I had never camped before my team organized a socially distant camping trip. Salt Point campgrounds were my first campground experience and I am now hooked! We had a very conveniently positioned campground, close to the bathroom, and very near a water reserve.
The campgrounds are also near a lot of hiking trails, and near the coast, where we were able to see a lot of marine life, including leopard seals.
It was a little chilly in July, so prepare clothing accordingly!
I'd highly recommend this campground!
