Best RV Parks & Resorts near Universal City, CA

Several RV parks surround Universal City, California, providing convenient access to Los Angeles attractions. Hollywood RV Park sits just 2 miles away, offering full hookup sites with 30 amp service in a compact setting with colorful murals throughout the property. Bonelli Bluffs in San Dimas (about 30 miles east) features spacious big-rig friendly sites with 50 amp electrical hookups, sewer connections, and water. "Very clean, pet friendly.....great place for exercise, walking, biking, etc.. safe environment. Beautiful RV park. Take your time on site selections to maximize your experience," notes one RV camper. Castaic Lake RV Park, located north of Universal City, provides full hookup sites with electric, water, and sewer connections, though spaces can be tight for larger motorhomes. Malibu Beach RV Park offers oceanfront RV camping with 30/50 amp service, though it's not recommended for big rigs due to limited maneuvering space.

Seasonal demand affects availability at most RV campgrounds in the region. Summer and holiday weekends fill quickly, particularly at parks closest to theme parks and beaches. Many RV parks charge additional fees for pets, extra vehicles, and premium site locations. Cell service varies significantly between locations, with better connectivity at urban parks like Hollywood RV Park compared to more remote options. Dump stations are available at all full-service RV parks, though some charge additional fees for use. Propane filling services can be found at select locations, including Thousand Trails Soledad Canyon which offers propane at $2.99 per gallon according to visitor reports. Navigation to some parks requires careful planning, especially for larger motorhomes. One reviewer noted that Castaic Lake RV Park is "TIGHT. If you have a big rig, prolly not the best idea. But if you have a 28 footer, this place is Six Stars!!!!"

Anaheim RV Park - PERMANENTLY CLOSED

Disney Camping - Clean, Pool, Very Nice Restrooms/Showers

Anaheim RV Resort is close to Disney and is on the Anaheim Resort Transportation (ART) bus route. They have full hook up sites and room for large rigs - back-in and pull through. They are very pet friendly and even have a dog walking/feeding service (for an extra fee). There is a small pool and hot tub. The restrooms/showers and newly remodeled and very nice! Sites are all level and fairly large. We've stayed here 4 times and will be back again!

I loved this place, this hidden gem is located in the in the middle of the city, with the feel of the outdoor. Lots of trees, biking and hiking trails, fishing area, beautiful views, very peaceful, family friendly, pet friendly, the C9 RV spot was very spacious, I also liked the A & B area. Not every site has a fire pit. Definitely coming back again.

    Bolsa Chica State Beach Campground

    Bolsa Chica State Beach

The 4 stars is primarily for location. This is essentially a parking lot with power and water. We had a beach front space (B035) with a decent sized palm tree. The only one I really saw. The spaces aren’t huge so if you have a big rig or large trailer it will be tight. Most trailers parked their tow vehicle perpendicular to the space and some barely fit. There is no privacy, the small concrete area is shared with your neighbors as is the entrance to the beach side. People watching at the boardwalk is amazing. There is live music at the beach bars nearby which was cool. Definitely bring bike. There isn’t a lot within walking distance but downtown Huntington Beach and the pier is just a couple miles away.

    Waterfront RV Park

    Great place by the beach

Your not on the beach but literally on the other side of pacific coast highway you are there. They have smaller options for travel trailers with power hook ups only and pull through and back in sites available with full hook ups. They have a great pool, maintained laundry rooms bathrooms and showers separated by men and woman for that privacy you need. Overall an incredible rv park and very impressed by it being well kept and clean. Not to mention close to the beach

Mountain Lakes Resort - Membership Campground

    Great family friendly place

My wife and I have been coming up here for years. We used to use her parents fifth wheel or use a cabin but recently purchased our own travel trailer. Now we come up here with our kids and I can’t say enough about how family friendly it is.

Thornhill Broome Beach — Point Mugu State Park

    Beach camping on PCH!

Spent 3 nights here and absolutely loved it. Campground has trash, porta-potties, and appeared to have potable spigots but didn't confirm. Verizon service was hit or miss, but with a booster it was usable. Nice fire rings and picnic tables. Only downside was highway noise, but the surf drowned out all but big-rigs. Saw dolphins and seals back to back days! We're so glad we went, and if we pass by again we will be staying for sure!

    Bonita Ranch Campground

    Just ok overall

Needed somewhere fairly close to home to take my new to us motorhome. Sites were decent size but fairly close together so don’t expect a lot of privacy. Sites interspersed among long term residents. Hookups water and electric at each site. Some shade, trails to riverbed currently mostly dry and Bonita falls about 25 minute walk over river rock. Fire rings available to rent for $5. The biggest issue I had was our electric went out to our loop at about 7:30pm…luckily we are self contained…it still had not been restored when we left the next day at noonish. The lights to the office area and restrooms was still on (thankfully) but not the camp sites.

    Orangeland RV Park

    Location!

Stay here every year for dance competitions in Anaheim and Garden Grove. Very reasonable prices for the area. Anaheim transit makes on-demand stops her to Disneyland as well as Garden Walk. Very helpful, friendly staff. Many residents mixed with overnight era or vacationers.

    Pros:

    • The price for the area is worth it!
    • Amazing staff.
    • Free citrus picking!
    • Pool, mini golf on site.
    • Incredibly creak restrooms and showers.
    • Camp store.
    • On-demand public transport for $6/person for all-day access.
    • Walking distance to Big Ed and Honda Center.
    • Along Santa Ana River Trail path that connects beach to San Bernardino Mts.
    • Security at night.
    • Dog runs (kinda stinky, though)
    • Back-in and pull-thru sites (I’d try to stay closer to Struck and the western side)
    • Rules are there to keep things nice and safe.
    • Good wifi

    Cons:

    • Stinky dog runs
    • Street racing nearby at night. Every time.

Guide to Universal City

RV parks near Universal City, California provide access to Los Angeles attractions while offering full hookup amenities. Most campgrounds within 30 miles feature varying site sizes, ranging from compact spaces to more spacious options suitable for diverse camping needs. Many campgrounds implement strict quiet hours starting between 9-10 PM, and advance reservations are strongly recommended, especially during summer months when occupancy rates exceed 85%.

What to do

Hiking trails access: Thousand Trails Soledad Canyon serves as a base camp for exploring nearby trails. Located 45 minutes north of Universal City, the surrounding area offers multiple hiking options. "This is a good location to explore LA and greater LA area, 45 min to Hollywood sign. Park is a large TT resort with recently remolded lodge in 2019," notes one visitor.

Water activities: Bonelli Bluffs in San Dimas provides access to multiple water activities. "There is camping, horseback riding, fishing, trails, biking, hiking, picnics, you can use your jet skies in designated areas, swimming on the pool areas, kayaking," explains one camper about the facilities available at this location about 30 miles east of Universal City.

Beach exploration: From Malibu Beach RV Park, campers can access nearby beaches. "I absolutely love this campground, it's perfectly situated in between the Malibu pier area (to your left) Dume, Zuma, and more beaches (to the right), + a lovely small beach across the street… oh let's not forget Malibu Seafood is right next door!" shares one enthusiastic visitor.

What campers like

Convenient location: Hollywood RV Park earns praise for its accessibility to Los Angeles attractions. "This seems to be one of the best places to stay with an RV to visit LA, since driving and parking and RV in LA can be challenging and parking an RV in west LA is not allowed," explains one camper who navigated transportation challenges.

Clean facilities: Golden Shore RV Resort maintains high cleanliness standards according to multiple visitors. "Very well maintained campground. The spots are groomed and clean when you come in. Great Long Beach location, a nice bike ride along the beach to Naples and the Queen Mary," reports one reviewer who appreciated both the cleanliness and location.

Security features: Security measures at RV parks near Universal City provide peace of mind for campers. At Golden Shore RV Resort, one visitor noted: "It's very quiet and safe. Security is very good and felt very safe, especially considering the location." Several campgrounds in the area employ overnight security personnel and gated access.

What you should know

Site sizing challenges: Many RV parks have tight spacing constraints. At Castaic Lake RV Park, one visitor advises: "For a 43 footer this place is TIGHT. If you have a big rig, prolly not the best idea. But if you have a 28 footer, this place is Six Stars!!!!"

Transportation considerations: Getting around from RV parks often requires planning. At Hollywood RV Park, a visitor shares: "We took an uber. if you stay on the West side of the city it's okay (still 50/60 USD) for a single ride. But If you want to explore any of the nicer beaches like manhattan Beach I do suggest to take the campervan, park at one of the malls in that area and then take an uber from there. Otherwise it gets super pricy."

Noise levels: Environmental noise affects some campgrounds. At Thousand Trails Soledad Canyon, multiple reviewers mention the railroad: "It's very very close to railroad tracks and at night the loud train kept waking us up." Another noted that "the only negative is the trains!"

Tips for camping with families

Pool availability: Several campgrounds offer swimming facilities. At Anaheim Harbor RV Park, a visitor explains: "We had REALLY nice showers, then we spent time in the pool. After that I cooked dinner at our site while my daughters watched television in the adjacent club house. Afterwards they went swimming again."

Space considerations: Site sizes affect family comfort. One visitor at Hollywood RV Park notes: "The site size depends on where you are in the park. Most of it is an affordable community for locals to live. We were lucky and got a middle spot with wonderful shade trees!"

Activity options: Anaheim Harbor RV Park serves as a good base for family activities. Though small, it provides amenities for families. "They have a nice, small pool area, bbq areas, a club house, clean bathrooms and showers and WiFi. The R.V. Park is within walking to the Disneyland park," shares one visitor who tent camped with children.

Tips from RVers

Hookup reliability: Service quality varies between RV campgrounds near Universal City. At Californian RV Resort, a visitor observed: "Most of the park's electric and some sewer connections didn't exist or were 'down' for repair. We have yet to actually SEE someone working on these issues."

Parking assistance: Some parks offer parking services for tighter spaces. At Hollywood RV Park, one camper shares: "Steve the owner is amazing and the team will take your rig on a forklift to your site and fully set you up. It feels like a neighborhood instead of a busy RV park."

Cell service variations: Connectivity differs significantly between campgrounds. At Thousand Trails Soledad Canyon, a guest notes: "No WIFI and reception for Verizon was hit or miss," while another visitor complained about Californian RV Resort: "They list that there's WiFi but I was close to the office and was never able to connect."
