Best RV Parks & Resorts near El Nido, CA

Several RV parks around Malibu and Ventura provide full hookup options for motorhome travelers. Malibu Beach RV Park offers electric, water, and sewer connections with ocean views, though some sites have awkward hookup placements requiring longer hoses. Thousand Trails Soledad Canyon accommodates big rigs with 50-amp service, while Hollywood RV Park caters to long-term stays. Ventura Beach RV Resort and Castaic Lake RV Park provide water and electric hookups, with the latter having tighter navigation for larger rigs. "If you have a 43 footer this place is TIGHT. If you have a big rig, probably not the best idea. But if you have a 28 footer, this place is Six Stars!"

Seasonal considerations affect availability throughout the region, with many parks filling completely during summer months and holidays. Cell service varies significantly between locations, with stronger signals at coastal parks than mountain locations. RV parks commonly charge additional fees for pets, with some restricting certain breeds. Several facilities offer propane filling services on-site, including Thousand Trails Soledad Canyon at $2.99 per gallon according to one visitor. Dump stations are available at most parks with full hookups, though some charge additional fees ranging from $10-15. Many parks have tight turning radiuses that can be challenging for longer rigs, particularly when facilities are at full capacity. Site reservations often require deposits, and cancellation policies vary widely between privately-owned and state-operated facilities.

    Bolsa Chica State Beach Campground

    Bolsa Chica State Beach

The 4 stars is primarily for location. This is essentially a parking lot with power and water. We had a beach front space (B035) with a decent sized palm tree. The only one I really saw. The spaces aren’t huge so if you have a big rig or large trailer it will be tight. Most trailers parked their tow vehicle perpendicular to the space and some barely fit. There is no privacy, the small concrete area is shared with your neighbors as is the entrance to the beach side. People watching at the boardwalk is amazing. There is live music at the beach bars nearby which was cool. Definitely bring bike. There isn’t a lot within walking distance but downtown Huntington Beach and the pier is just a couple miles away.

    Waterfront RV Park

    Great place by the beach

Your not on the beach but literally on the other side of pacific coast highway you are there. They have smaller options for travel trailers with power hook ups only and pull through and back in sites available with full hook ups. They have a great pool, maintained laundry rooms bathrooms and showers separated by men and woman for that privacy you need. Overall an incredible rv park and very impressed by it being well kept and clean. Not to mention close to the beach

Thornhill Broome Beach — Point Mugu State Park

    Beach camping on PCH!

Spent 3 nights here and absolutely loved it. Campground has trash, porta-potties, and appeared to have potable spigots but didn't confirm. Verizon service was hit or miss, but with a booster it was usable. Nice fire rings and picnic tables. Only downside was highway noise, but the surf drowned out all but big-rigs. Saw dolphins and seals back to back days! We're so glad we went, and if we pass by again we will be staying for sure!

    Tapo Canyon Park

Clean and quiet, except for the birds

This is a very nice campground near everything but still away from it all. No issues parking our 42' 5th wheel here. Clean and quiet despite the peacocks. They can be rather loud when startled. I swear they could hear my morning alarm and squawked their disapproval. The camp host Shawn is AMAZING! Bathrooms are very clean. Showers are coin operated. DO NOT expect cell service. I could only work from this spot by placing my mobile HomeFi router on top of the camper. Our Verizon phones were paper weights. Make sure your reservations are complete online before arriving. The Rangers check the spots multiple times a week. The kids enjoyed the playground and fields. It's not uncommon to see and hear movie/TV production crews at the filming locations along the road. Pet friendly but be careful at night. Mountain lions were spotted while there.

    Anaheim Harbor RV Park

    Do not trust them!

Camping for over 25 years- 140 nights a year and we have never experienced a campground as unprofessional, clueless and arrogant as this one. Their campsite math is completely unacceptable and when asked for ax explination we were treated like we should be happy they were allowing us to stay and it felt like they thought we could not afford to stay there. PLEASE BE CAREFUL AND UNDERSTAND THE BILL!!! Their site measurements are for your camping unit ONLY. If you have a tow vehicle or are towing a vehicle you must pay per night for a parking spot, whether it fits on the site or not. So, a 40X14ft standard site can accommodate a travel trailer of 20 feet or less BUT a motorhome of 40 ft or less. If your travel trailer is 21ft you MUST pay for a parking spot even if your total length is less than 40 ft. They neglected to tell us this information when we booked our site quoted$500 the weekly rate and we paid the deposit. We called to ask a question and they mentioned our total$740.61. We asked how we added$240 when the website stated$500. The woman could not explain the breakdown and could only tell us that we must pay for our truck to park and the website are not actual prices!! When we asked how we would have known this and she laughed and said you probably wouldn’t, you would have had to pay at arrival. WHAT, WHO HAS EVER HEARD OF THAT! With one story after another and no answers we called and told them we would be staying elsewhere because we needed to know the total! They canceled our site but kept our deposit despite their inability to understand and explain how they charge for a site. IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW– BECAUSE THEY WILL NOT TELL YOU! They just want to fill their campground! 1. If you are in anything other than a motorhome you will need to pay for your vehicle to park! 2. The 40ft RV length restriction includes the length of the hitch 3. Despite their sites being able to accommodate a 40ft rig their campground is extremely tight and sites may be very difficult to back in if longer than 35ft. 4. If you have a larger RV or slide-outs it is recommended you book Deluxe space or Deluxe space+ parking. 5. Standard sites may be too narrow to extend awning 6. There is no guarantee your vehicle will be parked next to or near your RV you are only paying for a spot. 7. Despite Disneyland being a family destination, their campsites are for 2 people only. You must pay for each additional person over 10 years old. 8. You must pay for your family pet. 9. You will need to pay for the pool key but should get it back. 10. Any standard site is a parking lot no grass. 11. Any time it says grass it is synthetic grass- AstroTurf 12. The very small strip of grass on a site has a fee attached. 13. Must be manufactured by a recognized maker or you must provide photos and copy of valid DMV Registration 14. You must have a 25ft sewage hose. 15. Tax is not included 7.75% CA Tax AND transient occupancy tax of 15%

    Kenney Grove Park

    Small but peaceful

Ok, so first off driving into this place feels a little "Texas Chainsaw" but don't worry, its fine. When I saw regional park I was expecting something way bigger however this is about the size of a small city park that turned its parking lot into a campground. None the less, we had a very pleasant stay. It was nice and quite despite it being Fourth of July weekend and we even had a few friendly bats fly around us. The playground was a bunch of old metal pieces that looked like you would surely break a leg so naturally my 2 and 4 year old LOVED it. LOL. Its in a great location with close drive to Ventura and Pismo beaches. Would definitely stay here again for a quick getaway.

Oh and note, the full hook up sites are for Model A's (stayed at 56). So hook ups are on the opposite side and really close to the "entrance" so we couldnt back in, we had to parking our towing vehicle in the general parking area. We had our small travel trailer and thank God we had a 40 ft sewer hose.

Guide to El Nido

RV campgrounds in the Malibu and Ventura region offer varying degrees of beach access, with some requiring short walks and others positioned on coastal bluffs overlooking the Pacific. The region typically maintains moderate temperatures year-round, with daytime highs averaging 65-75°F, though inland locations can reach 90-100°F during summer months. Most camping areas implement noise restrictions from 10pm-7am, though enforcement varies by facility.

What to do

Beach access from Malibu Beach RV Park: Located on a bluff overlooking the ocean with beach access across the street. "I absolutely love this campground, it's perfectly situated in between the Malibu pier area (to your left) Dume, Zuma, and more beaches (to the right), + a lovely small beach across the street... oh let's not forget Malibu Seafood is right next door!" says Andrea G.

Cycling opportunities at Dockweiler Beach: A 20+ mile bike path runs along the coastline. "Right off a very nice coastal 20+? mile walking/biking path. Went to a concert last minute at SoFi just 15 min away," notes PJ M. Bike rental kiosks are available seasonally, typically charging $10-15 per hour.

Wildlife viewing at Point Mugu: The adjacent estuary contains diverse species. "We watch seals, ducks and more swimming around the beach. We practically had it all to ourselves. It was quiet and well maintained," shares Danielle P. Morning hours (6-9am) typically offer the best wildlife viewing opportunities.

What campers like

Ocean views at Malibu Beach RV Park: The elevated position provides panoramic vistas. "I have been on a 3 month trip and stayed at 22 different campgrounds. Malibu RV Resort has the best views for the price, hands down," says Michael M. Most premium ocean-view sites cost $25-40 more than standard sites.

Quieter weekday stays at Dockweiler Beach RV Park: Experience varies significantly between weekends and weekdays. "Amazing beach front sites, expected noise from road and airport but you can still hear the ocean, super lively/loud beach on weekend, very chill weekdays," reports PJ M. Sites 125-128 in the dry camping section provide the most separation from neighboring campers.

Themed decorations at Hollywood RV Park: The facility features artistic touches throughout. "Every street is themed with murals and art everywhere! The site size depends on where you are in the park. Most of it is an affordable community for locals to live," writes Clean Slate D. The park occasionally hosts performances by local artists in their entertainment space.

What you should know

Aircraft noise at beachfront locations: Proximity to airports affects some campsites. At Dockweiler Beach RV Park, "You will hear each and every of the planes taking off from LAX, but at one point you don't hear them anymore. It was not really annoying, but that flight at 5a was..." mentions Ignasi M.

Railroad noise at Thousand Trails Soledad Canyon: Train activity continues throughout night hours. "It's very very close to railroad tracks and at night the loud train kept waking us up. The sites are dirt so be prepared to get lots of fine dessert dirt in the camper," warns Elizabeth C.

Urban camping challenges: Finding suitable parking for larger vehicles requires planning. At Hollywood RV Park, "It takes some planning to visit LA when you are traveling with an RV. This seems to be one of the best places to stay with an RV to visit LA, since driving and parking and RV in LA can be challenging and parking an RV in west LA is not allowed," advises Manon S.

Tips for camping with families

Beach camping with children: Point Mugu offers protected swimming areas. "This is probably my favorite beach campground yet! Being on the Military base reduces the number of people trying to get to it. The beach is on the base, and has a protected wetland and then shooting range on one side then on the other is the base itself," notes Danielle P.

Pool availability at Ventura Beach RV Resort: Facilities may have seasonal operating schedules. "We went here in March '21 and half the resort was still closed to covid restrictions. No pool, jacuzzi, playground, transport vehicle to and from town, and game room. Odd, because most of the state was already open," reports Rob L.

Children's activities at Thousand Trails Soledad Canyon: Programming has age limitations. "The only good thing was the Saturday activities. However if you have older kids forget it! The activities are for ages 5-7 maybe! They did have a movie night the last night we were there," writes one reviewer.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Terrain varies significantly between facilities. At Malibu Beach RV Park, "I stayed in the site V2 overlooking the ocean in a 21 foot van. The spot was a little uneven but easily fixed," shares Michial S.

Size constraints at Castaic Lake RV Park: Navigation difficulty increases with vehicle length. "Judging by the shape of the office, this place was a 60's or 70's KOA back in the day. The trees and bushes are fantastic. However just as our population has gotten larger over the years, so have the RVs. For a 43 footer this place is TIGHT," warns Michael C.

Bathroom accessibility hours: Facility access varies by location. At Golden Shore RV Resort, "Great place to spend the weekend. Close enough to some good shopping and restaurants! Only downside is they lock the bathrooms from 8pm-730am," notes Derrick.
