Best RV Parks & Resorts near Castaic, CA

Castaic Lake RV Park provides 31 full hookup RV sites with water, electric, and sewer connections along Ridge Route Road. Most sites accommodate standard-sized RVs up to 35 feet, with limited options for larger motorhomes. "If you have a big rig, prolly not the best idea. But if you have a 28 footer, this place is Six Stars! It has a pool and spa, great dog walking area. Propane and store are on site," noted a recent visitor. Nearby, Thousand Trails Soledad Canyon in Acton features big-rig friendly full hookup sites with 50-amp service, spread across multiple camping sections. Sites throughout Section N offer the strongest cell reception, while older sections provide more shade but tighter spacing between neighboring RVs.

Advance reservations are essential during peak travel seasons, particularly for weekend stays. The road to Soledad Canyon includes some winding sections that require cautious driving with larger rigs. Dump stations are available at most parks, though Kenney Grove Park requires using an off-site dump station in town for a $15 fee. Verizon service works reliably at most locations, while T-Mobile coverage varies significantly by specific camping section. Most parks remain open year-round with seasonal rate adjustments. Pet policies generally allow dogs with standard restrictions, though several parks enforce breed limitations. Propane filling services are available at Castaic Lake RV Park and Thousand Trails Soledad Canyon, where a camper mentioned refills cost $2.99 per gallon.

Thornhill Broome Beach — Point Mugu State Park

    Beach camping on PCH!

Spent 3 nights here and absolutely loved it. Campground has trash, porta-potties, and appeared to have potable spigots but didn't confirm. Verizon service was hit or miss, but with a booster it was usable. Nice fire rings and picnic tables. Only downside was highway noise, but the surf drowned out all but big-rigs. Saw dolphins and seals back to back days! We're so glad we went, and if we pass by again we will be staying for sure!

    Tapo Canyon Park

Clean and quiet, except for the birds

This is a very nice campground near everything but still away from it all. No issues parking our 42' 5th wheel here. Clean and quiet despite the peacocks. They can be rather loud when startled. I swear they could hear my morning alarm and squawked their disapproval. The camp host Shawn is AMAZING! Bathrooms are very clean. Showers are coin operated. DO NOT expect cell service. I could only work from this spot by placing my mobile HomeFi router on top of the camper. Our Verizon phones were paper weights. Make sure your reservations are complete online before arriving. The Rangers check the spots multiple times a week. The kids enjoyed the playground and fields. It's not uncommon to see and hear movie/TV production crews at the filming locations along the road. Pet friendly but be careful at night. Mountain lions were spotted while there.

    Kenney Grove Park

    Small but peaceful

Ok, so first off driving into this place feels a little "Texas Chainsaw" but don't worry, its fine. When I saw regional park I was expecting something way bigger however this is about the size of a small city park that turned its parking lot into a campground. None the less, we had a very pleasant stay. It was nice and quite despite it being Fourth of July weekend and we even had a few friendly bats fly around us. The playground was a bunch of old metal pieces that looked like you would surely break a leg so naturally my 2 and 4 year old LOVED it. LOL. Its in a great location with close drive to Ventura and Pismo beaches. Would definitely stay here again for a quick getaway.

Oh and note, the full hook up sites are for Model A's (stayed at 56). So hook ups are on the opposite side and really close to the "entrance" so we couldnt back in, we had to parking our towing vehicle in the general parking area. We had our small travel trailer and thank God we had a 40 ft sewer hose.

Foster Park Campground - TEMPORARILY CLOSED

    Worth every penny

Being that we chose this camp site last minute is a total score. Large sites, full hookup options and 10 minutes from the beach. Camp host were very nice and accommodating. Some sites are close to the 33 highway so you will have road noise but we are used to Rincon. There is tent camping in the higher sites. Covered with plenty of mature trees for nice shade. Clean restrooms but no showers. Campground is very close to the Ojai-Ventura bike trail. Hiking trails all over and did I say 10 minutes from the beach!!! We stayed with our 2 toddlers/teen and had a blast. Only odd thing is that some sites hookups are backwards. No biggie. We just ran our lines under our rig. We would definitely stay here again.

    Kenney Grove Park

    Ventura County Park

This county park campground is packed full on the weekend. Many big rigs are shoehorned in, making me feel kinda cramped. There are many trees and plantings, so it’s not a parking lot. No sewer, and $15 dump station is in town, 2 or 3 miles It felt like everyone here knew each other, and we were intruding on their party.

    Foster Residence Campground

    Nice and small

This is a small Ventura County campground close to Ojai. We stayed in #9, which is in an odd spot right in the middle of the tight loop. If we’d had our awning out I think bigger vehicles would have knocked into it as they made the loop around us, and the loop is so tight that you can’t really do it without backing up and repositioning yourself. I’m surprised there’s no length limit for this campground, not because of the size of the spots, but because of the small loop. #9 is also unlevel and our blocks weren’t enough to fix it. Sites 1 and 2 are off by themselves on the other side of the campground, so it would be a good setup for a group of friends but too awkwardly close to each other otherwise.

The dry camping/ tent sites are off on the other end, and though we usually prefer these sites to full hookup sites, I don’t think they’d work for an RV. The spots are small, all dirt, all in a row, and parking would be awkward. #14 is kind of a walk-up situation, where you park along the road and set up camp down by the creek.

There’s no dump station here. There are garbage and mixed recycling dumpsters. Host on site. No onsite payment, you have to reserve online. We paid $42/night for a full hookup site, plus a $10 reservation fee, plus $2.50 per pet per night.

Good Verizon service but ATT was usable but pretty weak.

Guide to Castaic

Campgrounds near Castaic, California offer varying terrain and amenities across elevations ranging from 1,000 to 4,000 feet. The region experiences hot summers with temperatures often exceeding 90°F and mild winters, making spring and fall the most comfortable camping seasons. Most campgrounds maintain water restrictions during summer drought conditions, with occasional full hookup limitations during peak periods.

What to do

Glider watching near Tehachapi: Mountain Valley RV Park sits adjacent to a glider airport where visitors can observe aircraft activity. "In the morning we walked over to the Raven's Nest for breakfast and watched the gliders take off starting around 9am," notes a camper who enjoyed this unique amenity at Mountain Valley RV Park.

Beach exploration: Camping sites near the coast provide access to marine wildlife viewing. "We saw a baby sealion on the beach one morning!" reports a visitor at Point Mugu Recreation Facility, which offers tent sites from $10 per night and includes beach access directly from the campground.

Urban excursions: Located near Los Angeles attractions, some RV parks serve as bases for city exploration. "This seems to be one of the best places to stay with an RV to visit LA, since driving and parking and RV in LA can be challenging and parking an RV in west LA is not allowed," explains a camper at Hollywood RV Park who used rideshare services to access city attractions.

What campers like

Convenient overnight stops: Several rv parks near Castaic provide strategic stopover locations. "I needed a place just as an overnight and called them late in the afternoon and got a space in their overflow (20 amp, water only). Space was level and large and private," reports a traveler at Castaic Lake RV Park.

Proximity to beaches: Coastal camping options offer direct ocean access. "We had a great view of the Pacific Ocean from high upon a cliff! General store is well stocked and there's a park to lounge or play games on the cliffs edge," shares a visitor at Malibu Beach RV Park, where most sites feature ocean views despite their compact size.

Themed environments: Some Castaic area campgrounds offer distinctive atmospheres. "Every street is themed with murals and art everywhere! The site size depends on where you are in the park. Most of it is an affordable community for locals to live," explains a camper who appreciated the artistic elements at Hollywood RV Park.

What you should know

Campsite sizing limitations: Many rv parks near Castaic have restrictions for larger rigs. "Sites are tightly packed but the spectacular views and open sky of the ocean more than make up for it," notes a camper at Malibu Beach RV Park regarding the space constraints.

Weather considerations: Desert locations experience temperature extremes requiring preparation. "We avoid large cities. Our plan had been staying up at Pyramid Lake. But, dry camping with no solar in 95-100 deg heat wasn't happening," explains a camper who changed plans to find a park with electrical hookups during summer heat.

Bathroom access limitations: Some facilities restrict overnight restroom access. "Worst thing: bathrooms are locked between 10 pm and 7:30 am (not good for those of us with early mornings)," warns a visitor at Mountain Valley RV Park, noting this important limitation for tent campers or those without onboard facilities.

Tips for camping with families

Pool availability: Several campgrounds offer swimming facilities that benefit families. "We had a great time. Although it was really hot the pool was nice and refreshing and clean," shares a visitor at Castaic Lake RV Park, emphasizing how water features help manage summer heat.

Activity programming: Check for organized events suitable for children. "The only good thing was the Saturday activities. However if you have older kids forget it! The activities are for ages 5-7 maybe!" notes a family at Thousand Trails Soledad Canyon, highlighting age-specific entertainment limitations.

Accessibility features: Some facilities accommodate mobility needs. "This is one of the best handicap accessible shower and restroom areas we've seen. The larger pool had a roll in area," reports a camper at Thousand Trails Soledad Canyon, though they caution that handicap-accessible sites aren't guaranteed without assignment systems.

Tips from RVers

Parking assistance: Some parks offer specialized parking services for tight spaces. "Steve the owner is amazing and the team will take your rig on a forklift to your site and fully set you up. It feels like a neighborhood instead of a busy RV park," explains a visitor at Hollywood RV Park.

Noise considerations: Highway proximity affects several rv parks in the Castaic area. "Crowded sites, horrible check in, rude people, owner is extremely unpleasant," reports a disappointed visitor at Ventura Beach RV Resort, where freeway noise remained a consistent issue for multiple reviewers.

Utility reliability: Power fluctuations occur at some locations during peak usage. "There were so many people running their ac that my surge protector kept shutting off on 'low current' below 104 voltes," warns an RVer at Ventura Beach RV Resort, suggesting that electrical systems struggle during high-demand periods.
