      Beehive Point Shoreline Campground

      Great Location With Caution

This was a nice short distance away from the i5. Great view of greenery and lake and the night stars. If you happen to have pets be cautious there is a lot of broken glass everywhere, my dog had several cuts on her pads.

      Mount Shasta City KOA Holiday

      Relaxation in the trees

Cute town and peaceful campground. Clean bathrooms and showers. Pool, game room, shuffle board, basketball court and off leash dog park. Lots of trees in the sites great for hammocking (in the tent sites). I would definitely stay here again.

      Waiiaka RV Park

Good place to stop for the night

We stayed overnight on the way to New Mexico. It was clean, quiet, close enough to the freeway to be convenient without being loud. Dog park and playground were small, campsite were packed close together. It was generally nice but unremarkable.

Great camping for tent or RV

We highly recommend this campground as they have all the amenities…a general store, boat rental, cabin rental, activities for the kiddos, a dog park and pub. Water, toilets and showers are readily available, though a bit in need of a good coat of paint and showers need cleaning/updating .

      Waiiaka RV Park

Nice & Clean RV Park, Tight Spaces

I stayed at this park with my daughter and dog for one night while passing through.

The facilities are very clean, showers have nice hot water for a minimal fee.

The dog park is small, but well maintained with poop bags on site for your use.

The RV Park workers were fantastic, checked on us during set up to make sure we had what we needed.

There are obviously quite a few long term renters at the park, but they showed pride in there homes and area. Everyone’s areas were clean and orderly, and the park was incredibly quiet.

Only down side is the sites are tightly packed together. My door was only a couple off feet off of my neighbors hook ups. When the camper next to us packed up in the morning, we were outside by our door. The smell of sewage was pretty strong, we just went in our camper and waited for him to finish up.

Worth a stop for the money if your going to be in the area.

      Hayward Flat

      Family camp out

The campground was beautiful with easy access to the lake and spacious sites that easily fit our large family. This campground was also pet friendly and welcoming to our dogs as well. Our only complaints were that there was no lightning in the bathroom and the quiet hours were not enforced as we were woken up by loud partying well after 2 am.

      Trailer Lane Campground

      Great place to stay!

Wonderful place to stay! Very nice little campground in Weed, CA. We originally were just stopping for the night so I had reserved a 50 amp pull thru, but we had some problems with our fifth wheel and my husband wanted some shade to work on it. Karen was nice enough to juggle reservations and get us in a 30 amp back in that had shade. Plus, we ended up staying for two nights. Karen was very accommodating and helpful and we really appreciated it! The campground is fun, has some outdoor games, a small dog park, and a community fire pit. And visiting the goats and chickens was definitely a bonus! I highly recommend Trailer Lane Campground and would definitely stay there again! We didn't use the bathrooms or laundry.

      Lake Siskiyou Camp Resort

      Beautiful place to stay!

I absolutely loved camping here with friends. And we already can’t wait to book another trip! Breath-taking view of Mt. Shasta was just around the corner from our site. Very clean, family/pet friendly, hiking, fishing, and swimming! Overall a wonderful stay!

    Guide to Callahan

The Callahan area sits at approximately 3,160 feet elevation in the Klamath National Forest, offering diverse camping options across varied terrain. Summer temperatures typically reach 85-90°F during day with cooler 45-55°F nights. Winter brings snow to higher elevations, with many campgrounds closing seasonally from October through April depending on conditions.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: Trail Creek Campground provides water access for anglers along its namesake creek. "Trail Creek runs through the back of the campground and is beautiful!" notes camper Connie H., who appreciated the peaceful setting despite the remote location.

Mountain biking: The areas surrounding Mount Shasta City KOA Holiday offer excellent trails for cycling enthusiasts. "There's a convenience store and the little town is super close and convenient. Nothing fancy schmancy, but roomy and woodsy," reports Sarah, highlighting the accessibility to local trails.

Wildlife viewing: Kangaroo Lake offers opportunities to observe local wildlife in their natural habitat. One visitor shared their experience: "A friend told me about this nearby mountain lake, and it did not disappoint!!! Had the place to myself & shared the lake with Bald Eagles."

    What campers like

Natural water features: Lake Siskiyou Camp Resort provides multiple water recreation options. As Margo A. describes, "We rented kayaks one day and the next we rented a pontoon boat and our friends joined us. We found a rope swing hanging on a tree and tied up and did some rope swing fun into the lake."

Spacious campsites: Many campers appreciate the ample space at certain campgrounds. At Lake Siskiyou, one camper noted, "Tent sites are huge and so is the campground! We stayed pretty far away from the beach and we were all by ourselves!"

Pet-friendly trails: Pet owners seeking camping near Callahan, California appreciate the accessible walking paths. At Kangaroo Lake Campground, "There is a paved path way from the campground/parking lot to the lake. The path leads to a fishing ramp that has a short wall that is right next to the lake."

    What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Many campgrounds in the Klamath National Forest have limited seasons. A reviewer noted about Trail Creek: "It's out of the way and pretty remote, but quiet and peaceful. There are no hookups, but there is drinking water provided as well as vault toilets."

Access challenges: Trailer Lane Campground provides convenient highway access but comes with some trade-offs. One camper observed, "Keep in mind that its close to the highway and yes, road noise is quite loud. We turned on our fan and that blocked most of it. Fine stop for the night."

Cell service limitations: Connectivity is minimal throughout the area. A Trail Creek camper reported, "There is ZERO cell service with T-Mobile, AT&T or Verizon. We did have Starlink with us and we were able to get signal, but it was spotty due to all the tree coverage."

    Tips for camping with families

Accessible facilities: Some campgrounds specifically accommodate families with accessibility features. At Kangaroo Lake, Joseph C. observed, "It appears that a lot of the walkways and facilities are designed to accommodate people in wheelchairs or people with walkers. It looks like everything is maintained at a higher standard than I've seen at most Forest Service campgrounds."

Kid-friendly activities: Trailer Lane Campground offers unique attractions for children. "The fun part is the critters they have on site- chickens, turkeys, goats and quail. There is a fun little kid zone with several activities appropriate for the whole family," writes Caren G.

Pet-friendly camping options near Callahan: Many families bring pets, and most campgrounds in the area accommodate them. A camper at Kangaroo Lake reported, "The RV/tent sites are all well designed with good separation. Most of the campsites have nice views of the mountains that surround the lake."

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling: Many RVers note the importance of level sites in the mountainous terrain. At Etna RV Park, one long-term visitor shared, "Came for a week and stayed a month and a half! Grassy, partially shaded, quiet sites with a little store, huge clean laundry, and the nice little town of Etna and all of its amenities right here."

Access road considerations: Larger rigs should be cautious on mountain roads. Regarding Kangaroo Lake, a reviewer warned, "The 7-mile-long winding access road is narrow with a sharp drop-off on one side. It can be a little nerve-racking to negotiate with 2-way traffic."

Hookup availability: Check campground amenities before booking. Mount Shasta City KOA Holiday offers comprehensive services according to one camper: "We thought the spots were nice. There was lots of shade offered by the many trees. The spaces were also decently sized. We've been at KOAs much tighter than this one."
