it was hot and smokey from the carr fire when we visited but it was pretty nice. we wanted to spread a little trail magic on the pct while we were there and hopefully helped out a few people.

Frequently Asked Questions

What amenities are available at Scott Mountain Campground?

Scott Mountain Campground offers basic amenities typical of a more rustic Forest Service campground. Facilities include vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings at campsites. There is no potable water available, so campers should bring their own supply. The campground's proximity to the Pacific Crest Trail makes it popular with through-hikers. The site does not offer electrical hookups, showers, or other developed amenities, maintaining its natural mountain setting.

Is Scott Mountain Campground open year-round?

Scott Mountain Campground is not open year-round. The campground typically operates during the summer and early fall months when weather conditions permit. The high elevation location means the site experiences significant snowfall during winter, making it inaccessible. Opening dates generally depend on when the snow melts, usually sometime in late May or June, and it typically closes in October when cold weather returns. For current seasonal status, contact the Shasta-Trinity National Forest office before planning your trip.

Where is Scott Mountain Campground located in Trinity Lake?

Scott Mountain Campground is located in the Trinity Alps region near Trinity Lake in Northern California. The campground sits at a mountain pass along the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), providing hikers with a convenient stopover point. Its elevated position offers a more secluded camping experience away from the immediate shoreline of Trinity Lake, making it an excellent base for those looking to explore both the lake area and the surrounding mountain wilderness.

Do I need reservations for Scott Mountain Campground?

Scott Mountain Campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservation system. During peak summer months and weekends, it's advisable to arrive early to secure a spot, especially if you're planning to visit during holidays or when PCT hikers are frequently passing through. The campground's relatively remote location helps keep crowd levels manageable compared to campgrounds directly on Trinity Lake. Have backup options planned in case the campground is full upon arrival.
