Crater of Diamonds State Park Campground

Digging for diamonds and camping - nothing better than this

Visiting Craters of Diamonds State Park has always been a bucket list item, and now it is completed.  Spent the day digging for diamonds with no success, but no one else had any either on the day of my visit.  $10 to dig, plus more if you need to rent equipment.  Lots of fun, but get ready to be messy.  The campground is great as well, but be prepared it was nearly full on a mid week day in October so plan ahead.  Picnic tables, metal fire rings, poles ready for you lantern.  RV hook ups are available,  Showers and flush toilets.  This is a nice but busy campground.

    Cossatot River RV Park

    Quiet, cozy, small rv park

We liked our week long visit here.. It was off the beaten path. Very quiet and peaceful. It seemed most people were gone during the day, maybe working. We explored the state park down the road and went on some fun drives. Easy pull through sites with full hook up. Dog friendly (I think) but there weren't any dogs running loose. There are also a couple cabins in the back it looked like.

**This rv park is not in walking distance to the Cossatot River

Armadillo Campground - Beavers Bend State Park

    Quiet, lovely campsite.

We only stayed one night enroute home to NW Arkansas. We had stayed at one of the sites on the river side of the park, but this was our first on the lake side.

We had a pull-though site with full hookups. As we were only one of three campers, the campground was very quiet. The pull-through sites are fairly close together and I wonder how noisy they would be during peak season.

The facilities were nice, but no hot water in the showers...brisk!!

Lots of deer (friendly...I would guess the guests feed them). We would stay here again as a short term solution...probably not a long-term option for us.

    Sterling Crest RV Park

If passing thru, prolly an okay option

The park has your standard full RV hookups, 30 amp electricity, and drive-thru sites. I wouldn't say it's a vacation spot as it seems people are residing in the park semi or permanently. If I'm on vacation and not in a crunch I would just continue rolling to a more relaxing location.

Nice clean spot to park your RV

If you're wanting to be near the Cossatot River and take your RV, this is a good pick. The park is clean, has standard RV hookups, and the highway isn't full of noisy traffic.

    Tiny Town Oklahoma

Centralized Cabins, Tent & RV Camping

When searching for a unique camping experience you might check out something a little bit outside of the box. Offering tent sites and RV sites Tiny Town might seem normal on paper but when you were arrive they have a lot of options which might be considered a little bit different.

I pulled into Tiny Town I noticed right away the unique experience which they offer. Though RVs were parked in the front and on the right I noticed a community of tiny homes just beyond the bounds. Many tiny homes were under construction however a few options were already up and running in a variety of floor plans ideal for any traveler visiting the area.

The property it’s self is small but does offer a few amenities including a restroom and laundry as well as a small play facility. The big draw to this area is the quick and easy access to beavers Bend State Park and other attractions around the Broken Bow area.

The offering of cabin rentals varies from humble three person dwellings all the way up to a 20 person“Deck-A-Saurus”. Cabins are all equipped with standard furniture including couches and beds, making it ideal for those who just want to pullin and immediately jump into comfort. The RV area it’s self accommodate 17 spaces in three various sizes. Each side includes full hook ups, and barbecue pits. The larger areas have private fire pits as well as picnic tables.

When I visited I noticed that the area was a little void of large trees. However the area is currently working to re-landscape and provide better shade accommodations along the perimeter’s which would be very beneficial to tent campers. While they do not market the smaller sites as tent only facilities I did notice there were several people staying in vans or tents in these sites along the outer border.

The facility itself is very clean and well-maintained. You can really tell there is attention to detail at this location and that as it continues to grow and be developed that this will be a continued point of interest.

Standard nightly rates run between $30 and $45 depending on the site for RV or tent camping. They do also offer both weekly and monthly rates but do impose strict guidelines for those who are staying long-term to keep the facility clean and not looking unkept.

The Broken Bow Area offers beautiful unique attractions. If you like fishing, hiking, canoeing or trying something a little new this area is perfect. This park offers easy access to not only the outdoor features but also the nice Intown features such as restaurants making it a perfect place to stop if you’re in the area.

The only downside I could see to this campsite is that it is not as remote as some.    While it does provide great amenities and access points to everything around with easy pull ins for RV traffic, it does lack that in the woods feel that many other campsites provide.   You will be a little close to your neighbors here.

    Texarkana KOA

I think it is an OK campground just to hot to tell

Ok seems to be well kept up. Has 2 areas short stay and long term stay. We got in at 1:30 it was 100. A little to hot to really walk around. Though the coolest place tobe is the restrooms and laundry, very nice, how long can you stay in.

They have a pool and it is used. Nice play area for kids.

Sites are gravel and very level, did not have to use our automatic levelers, impressed.

AR 7 PMit was still 100 but went out and got some video and photos.

    Perfect spot on the water

This campground is quiet and beautiful with large spaces, perfect for our big RV set up. They offer full hook ups. Our campsite (22) overlooks the water, and the playground which is perfect for our young family. It has a great size of gravel area with picnic table, barbecue, and fire pit. The bathrooms and showers are clean. The campground host was kind and helpful. Can’t beat this for the price! We might stay a few extra days.

Cute and clean! Great for a few nights or longer. Pool, playground, laundry, and showers. The whole place is clean and neat. Easy to access from the I-30 service road, pull through sites available. We live in a 45' 5th wheel and had no trouble at all. FULL HOOK-UPS! 30 and 50 amp.

Millwood Landing Golf & RV Resort

    Hidden Gem

We spent a week at this location. The sites are at the back of the property near two small ponds and it was quiet. The golf course was nice, although we did not play. The sites had 50 amps and full hook ups. We arrived later afternoon and were shown to our spot. The wifi was decent in the back area where we stayed. It was mostly workers and there was barely anyone during the day. This was a very quiet and peaceful stop for the week and we would certainly stay again.

    Hope Village Inn RV Park

    SKETCHY-BEWARE!!!

We booked one night here during a southwest roadtrip. I should have looked into the Google reviews because there weren't any on this app at the time. This "campground" sits directly beside a sketchy excuse of a "motel." Actually they are ran by the same people. The motel had multiple rooms with full windows busted out, large amounts of trash and junk piled everywhere outside (broken furniture, trash, scrap), the "pool" they advertise was empty with weeds growing up in it, and many long-term residents of the motel hanging out in the lot, on the second story, and going in and out of each other's open rooms. It looked like something straight out of a movie or TV show that was portraying a poor, rundown, drug-infested neighborhood. We drove past that and into the small campground area. It had lots of run-down campers with junk piled around them as well. I wish I had taken pictures because I couldn't believe how trashy this place looked. We made the decision not to stay there for the night. We were afraid our camper or truck would be broken into if we left them there. It was not somewhere we felt safe staying with our children. We found a much nicer and safer KOA down the road in Texarkana that was actually cheaper and stayed there instead. We may have lost the money we paid for a night at this place, but the peace of mind was worth it!

    Great park, but tight spots.

Texarkana RV Park is a very nice, clean, and friendly RV park. They have a gated entrance for extra security. The park has nice amenities such as pool, playground, laundry, restrooms, dog run, and park-like setting with duck pond. Most sites are pull-thru and plenty long, but narrow. Beware of your slide placement before parking, as site poles may be in the way of a slide fully opening. Each site is gravel with a patio and they have 50 amp FHU. We enjoyed our stay at this campground and would definitely stay again. 👍🏻😊

    Cossatot River RV Park

Not a bad location for RVs and cabins near the Cossatot River but...

Given that the gorgeous Cossatot River has a State Park but its campgrounds are up a few miles of hilly gravel road and offer no plumbing or electricity, you may be searching for more comfy accommodations as a jumping off point to hike or kayak. Lake Gillham campground is unfortunately too far away to be convenient. The CRSP park rangers may mention this RV park, if you inquire, or you might find it yourself on a map. The location is convenient enough - just a few minutes' drive down the road from the Visitors Center. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The setting is adequate: it's close to the road and offers fire ring, picnic table, and a gravel pad. The thing that ruined our stay were some of the regular clientele who were downright creepy/frightening. Think, disintegrating trailers, abusive yelling late at night, unkempt heavy drinkers with leering eyes. In spite of the pluses, I would not feel comfortable staying here again. Perhaps the cabins are distanced enough from the RV part to feel safe.

Crater of Diamonds State Park Campground

Fun place to play in the dirt!

Crater of Diamonds State Park is a place where you literally play the fun and exciting game of“finders, keepers.” The prize here being diamonds! In the middle of nowhere Arkansas(a.k.a. the town of Murfreesboro) is a field of 37 acres where for $10/day you can dig to your hearts’ content looking for diamonds making this the only diamond mine in the world open to the public. And don’t think this is a gimmick. Over 75,000 diamonds have been found in the“Crater” with an average of 600/year. The largest diamond found in North America was found at Crater of Diamonds topping out at 40.23 carats. In 1998, the Strawn-Wagner Diamond weighing 1.09 carats was graded by the American Gem Society as a 0/0/0“D” Flawless perfect diamond– a“one in a billion diamond”– and found right here in Arkansas.

The park was established in 1972 “to responsibly manage and interpret this unique site and to provide a meaningful diamond mining experience for all guests and future generations.” We find that pretty funny because we have never come across a state park whose intent is to provide a meaningful diamond mining experience mission. All the more reason we wanted to go! The parks campground is set among beautiful pine trees and offers full hook-up sites large enough to fit our 45’ RV without a problem. The campground has 47 nicely shaded RV sites with water/electric/sewer hookup(many of which have tent pads and five walk-in tent sites. The campground has two modern bathhouse with hot showers; one bathhouse includes a laundry and both were very clean and cared for all day long. If you need a dump station one is conveniently located as you leave the campground. There is also free Wi-Fi in the campground. There is a nice hiking trail that leaves from the campground and loops back around after venturing through the forest and along a river. It is not a long trail but a nice walk and we never saw anybody on it while we were there. Now back to diamond hunting. The“crater” is essentially a plowed field that is the eroded surface of a volcanic crater containing a variety of rocks, crystals, and gemstones. The field is plowed periodically to expose underlying layers of dirt and gems. The visitor center has interactive exhibits highlighting the unique history of the park and geology of Arkansas diamonds. They also tempt you with pictures of diamonds that have been found in the park. At the Diamond Discovery Center visitors learn about diamonds, but more importantly, techniques on how to find them.

Once you have rented (or brought your own) diamond digging equipment like trowels, shovels, buckets, sifting screens, etc. then it is time to head out into the crater. The techniques vary widely from walking along looking for smooth shiny diamonds (because dirt and mud don’t stick to the smooth surface of diamonds) to digging up a bucket full of dirt and sifting through water like gold mining. We talked to one man who uses a paint brush to lightly brush away loose dirt to reveal the diamonds. Diamonds come in a rainbow of colors but the predominant colors found here are white, brown, and yellow. If you think you found a precious stone, staff is on hand to positively identify it for you. And if you want it, you keep it! No matter what it is.

It is a nice campground, but there were lots of gunshots in the area and the spots are pretty close together. It is nice that it has full hookups, but my dump is towards the front of my RV and the dump site was in the very back of my space
