Fool Hollow Lake Recreation Area Campground

      Beautiful and clean

This is one of the best campgrounds I’ve stayed in. Bathrooms and showers were very clean. Quiet. Host was very nice. Sites had enough space in between to make it feel private.

      Show Low Lake Campground

      Quiet campground

Bigger campground than I thought for a private campground. They do have showers and cell service on Verizon works. It seems the locals come into the campground to use the playground equipment. Nobody was at the entrance station to check in campers and I got here early.

      Christopher Creek

      Perfect weekday getaway

Great place to get to the stream with the pup during the week. Very clean, quiet, shaded, beautifully kept. The camp host was very kind and knowledgeable.

Carr Lake Campground on Forest Road 9350

Amazing Rim views if you get here early enough

About 38 numbered spots but only about 10 with views of the rim and I was very fortunate to get one on a Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. Last Rim View spot available. Beautiful area with many other camping locations but definitely pack it in pack it out. Apparently there is water and garbage dump available nearby and at Christopher Creek there is a laundromat open 24/7 and some apparently good dining choices.

      Bermuda Flat Recreation Site

      Cool cool waters

Got there early on a Thursday and it was great until Friday afternoon, then the weekend warriors arrived. Not too crowded, but some dumbass brought his own town with him and took up a sizeable stretch of beach. Excellent sunrises and sunsets.

      Buena Vista Trailhead Dispersed

      Start of the journey.

1st stop on my counter clockwise cross country trek. Great view of lake Roosevelt and decent sunset spot towards the back of the somewhat rugged but manageable road with my explorer and Shasta. Also a short drive to the Tonto national monument. Be prepared to share the road with cows.

      Knoll lake FR 752

      FR752 dispersed - Knoll lake

Go past the knoll lake campground turnoff and turn left on FR 752 you can go down to about .15 miles from the lake but it takes a lifted car to get all the way down. My Kia sorento made it to about 1 mile from the lake but a ton of great dispersed sites all along the road. Go as far as you are comfortable

      Ridge Valley Ranch

      Juniper and dark skies

Found this initially on Boondockers Welcome and double checked on The Dyrt. Directions and map were clearer on The Dyrt. We missed a crucial turn and wandered around for an hour on narrow, rocky gravel roads before Lew could talk us through the route. I guess I’m not as good at reading a map or directions as I thought I was.

Lew has a gorgeous property with plenty of sites of all sizes but only two “developed.” We were told to feel free to find a spot that felt good and to clear rocks to make a fire pit if we wished. We decided to set up in “Site 2” which was extra roomy and easily accommodated our 41’ fifth wheel. Lew is in the process of clearing undergrowth and there’s lots of wood available for fires. However, it has been an extremely dry winter, so be judicious, as it does get windy up here on the ridge.

This is definitely off grid — no power, no water and no dump station. Verizon was 2 bars reliably and occasionally 3. WiFi was excellent.

Mogollon Rimn Dispersed, AZ FR 9350

      Rim Views

Great location (Mogollon Dispersed).. The views and surrounding forest are beautiful.. There is a men's & women's outhouse at the entrance to the area. Each site has a number assigned, camping 50 feet within the designated sign. There is no trash receptacles or amenities. There is a designated dump station 2 miles at the Woods Canyon Lake turnoff, fees are collected. $10 to dump waste and $5 to fill water tanks.. $7 per bag of trash.
