    Kountry Air RV Park

    Clean quiet campground

We have stayed here many times when were on the road heading  out for the summer.  We had full hook up, a picnic table & there is a small clean restroom near the pool if needed along with a laundry room & place to sit inside if it's hot out.  They have DVD's and some books we trade them where were there. We only stay a night & stay hooked up to the truck. The owners Gigi & her husband work hard to keep the gardens beautiful, the campground maintained & the pool is so clean & refreshing.  You can get propane here.

We've stayed 3 different time & had a nice site towards the back with a garden on the side.

It's off the beaten path a little but well worth it.

    Bama RV Station

    Good For Quick Overnight Stay

Literally right off the interstate at Tuscaloosa. Much lower noise level than I expected. Definitely a parking lot, without trees. We are in site 9, pretty level gravel site, electric and water hookup only. 2 dump stations are available, 2 dog parks. 30 dollars a night. Mostly long term parking. No firepits or picnic tables. Check in by phone, no office.

    Deerlick Creek

    Awesome little campground

Nice level concrete pads with awesome shade. Bath house stayed clean. Nice 1/2 mile asphalt bike/walking trail. Hiking trail with hills and valleys skirting the lake. Boat ramp with easy access to the lake. Convenient access to Tuscaloosa for supplies, eating or just a change of scenery. Some site are smaller than others and some are pull through. Highly recommend.

    Gunter Hill Campground

    Great Times

    Great time at Gunter Hill

Gunter Hill Corps of Engineers Campground We stayed 2 nights at Site 27 Full hookups (50 amp electric/water/sewer) $35/night Site #27. is a very long, back-in site, on a level concrete pad, very shady and secluded. The driveway is very long. The Catoma Creek is visible and a short walk just to the rear of this site, affording me quick and easy access to get to a bit of fishing.

The campground is just on the west side of Montgomery, a short drive off of the interstate, far enough away to offer plenty of peace and quiet. We enjoyed lots of walks around the park, getting familiar with the campground while exploring the Catoma loop and the more rustic, electric-only Antioc loop. We were able to put our kayaks in easily as well. The restrooms were slightly dated and dark. No trash pick up, but cans available nearby.

The campground served as a good base to explore nearby Montgomery and it’s suburbs.

Lakeside Landing RV Park & Marina

    One and done

The view is fantastic if you are lakeside- but it stops there. Most rentals are along one row and a couple of the lakeside sites. Sites are very unleveled with minimal gravel but almost all have a 6x9 concrete pad. No pool, no fire rings, spotty wifi and frequent brown outs on power. Both shower points smell horrible but appear clean otherwise. Lots of long-term vehicles. People are friendly and pets are welcome.

    Gunter Hill Campground

    We love Gunter Hill!

We are local (30ish miles) but love to just escape here when we have 3 or 4 days and don't want to travel long distance.  Perfect spot to be closer to the river in the summer and in the woods in the fall.  Catoma loop sites are full hookup with concrete pads including both back in and pull through options.  Antioch Loop does not have sewer hookup and these sites are gravel lots but offer some amazing water views.

    Cherokee Campground

More of a Long Term Living Area

Most of the pads were filled with long-term residents. The owners were very nice. The rate was reasonable. Our gravel pad was not wide enough to be a) level and b) slide/awning out at the same time. The electric hook-up was at the opposite end of the pad from the water and sewer hook-ups. Some neighbors were friendly, others were a bit suspicious of us as interlopers based on how many times they walked past our area. Overall, would only stay again in a pinch.

Long term camping with a family atmosphere

This is a great campground that has ONLY long term camping so you really get to know your neighbors. The power is not included but the prices are very reasonable.

Our lot is spacious, gravel pad with a cement patio.

What to do

Local attractions within 10 miles: Brierfield Ironworks Historical State Park preserves a former iron furnace with hiking trails and picnic areas. Birmingham South RV Park provides convenient access. "Easy to get in and out of the park from highway. Good Wi-Fi. Nice pool. Nice office. Well organized," notes Debra R.

Water activities: The nearby Cahaba River offers fishing and kayaking opportunities during spring and summer months. Joyland RV Park provides access to multiple ponds. "This is a very clean, well maintained, camp ground. Gravel pull ins with grass area in between and ponds all around," explains reviewer k.

Entertainment options: Several campgrounds have recreational facilities on-site. "Great RV Canpground. Super easy to get in and out. Easy hooks ups and good WiFi available. Playground and rock climbing area a plus," writes Chris G. about Hoover Met Complex RV Park.

What campers like

Convenient overnight stops: Multiple parks near I-65 serve as practical stopover points. "Just a big parking lot but had full hookup and clean," reports maureen L. about Hoover Met Complex RV Park, highlighting its straightforward setup.

Budget-friendly options: Many campgrounds offer competitive rates. "Great for an overnight stay. 30/50 amp hook-up, water, sewer, concrete pads, playground, separate picnic area. Easy back-in spots. 10 available (first come, first served). No reservations. We came in late & paid in the AM at Peach Park Express $35 for overnight stay," shares Beth R. about Peach Park RV Park.

Spacious layouts: Some parks provide extra room between sites. Kountry Air RV Park offers "sites well placed and spread out so you don't feel like you're right on top of the campers next to you," according to Steve D., who described it as a "beautiful and bucolic setting."

What you should know

Cell service variations: Network coverage differs by location and provider. Verizon works well at many parks, and some offer WiFi alternatives. "We got 2 bars on Verizon, and their WiFi was better than most CGs this size," reports MickandKarla W. about Kountry Air RV Park.

Noise considerations: Traffic sounds affect some locations. Sunset RV "is right off of I-20 so there was lots of road noise all night. There was a very bright vapor light above our site that lit up the whole area," reports Joel R.

Ground conditions: Site levelness varies widely between parks. "When we made reservations, we were told to only take exit 179 off I-65 and follow the GPS directions, as any other way will take you on narrow roads, including gravel roads," notes MickandKarla W. about access to Kountry Air RV Park.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several parks feature play areas for children. "In addition to the Hoover Met sports complex and sports arena there is a new brewery within walking distance of the campground," explains Ryan P. about Bama RV Station.

Pet accommodations: Most parks allow pets with specific areas for dogs. "Numerous sewer as well as non sewer lots. Economy camping option in the economy storage area. Numbers posted for assistance," reports Ronnie H., also mentioning "3 dog parks" at Bama RV Station.

Weather preparation: Alabama's climate requires planning for both heat and occasional storms. "Hurricane Ian sent a multitude of people fleeing from Florida that were now headed to the Hoover Met RV. I called and verified that we still had site reservation for one night. But now the RV park was completely full," recounts pamela B. about how Hoover Met Complex RV Park accommodated emergency evacuees.

Tips from RVers

Arrival timing: Many parks accommodate late check-ins. "We stayed here while moving out of Hoover, AL. And have been back twice because of that experience," shares Paul C. about Hoover Met Complex RV Park, noting its "huge campground" that "haven't ever found a time when it is completely full."

Site selection strategy: Position your RV carefully based on utilities and terrain. "We drove the 14 miles from the exit to the CG with no issues. We were greeted by Don on his golf cart, and his wife, Gigi, checked us in at the office," explains MickandKarla W. about their experience at Kountry Air RV Park.

Supply access: Many campgrounds are near essential services. "Close to everything in Hoover/Birmingham, but isn't 'outdoors' experience if you are trying to camp," notes Paul C. about Hoover Met Complex RV Park, highlighting its urban convenience.
