Rolling Hills RV Park in Calera accommodates big rigs with 50-amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections on gravel sites that require minimal leveling. Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends, as many parks have limited pull-through sites and frequently accommodate long-term residents. Cell service varies by location, with reviews indicating adequate Verizon coverage at most parks. Pet policies generally allow dogs with standard leash requirements. While some parks provide amenities like playgrounds and shower facilities, others offer more basic services focused primarily on hookups. Dump stations are available at most locations, including those without full sewer connections at individual sites. Winter temperatures rarely affect water connections, though occasional freezing temperatures may require precautions for exposed hoses and tanks.

    Bama RV Station

    Good For Quick Overnight Stay

Literally right off the interstate at Tuscaloosa. Much lower noise level than I expected. Definitely a parking lot, without trees. We are in site 9, pretty level gravel site, electric and water hookup only. 2 dump stations are available, 2 dog parks. 30 dollars a night. Mostly long term parking. No firepits or picnic tables. Check in by phone, no office.

    Deerlick Creek

    Awesome little campground

Nice level concrete pads with awesome shade. Bath house stayed clean. Nice 1/2 mile asphalt bike/walking trail. Hiking trail with hills and valleys skirting the lake. Boat ramp with easy access to the lake. Convenient access to Tuscaloosa for supplies, eating or just a change of scenery. Some site are smaller than others and some are pull through. Highly recommend.

Lakeside Landing RV Park & Marina

    One and done

The view is fantastic if you are lakeside- but it stops there. Most rentals are along one row and a couple of the lakeside sites. Sites are very unleveled with minimal gravel but almost all have a 6x9 concrete pad. No pool, no fire rings, spotty wifi and frequent brown outs on power. Both shower points smell horrible but appear clean otherwise. Lots of long-term vehicles. People are friendly and pets are welcome.

    Gunter Hill Campground

    Great Times

    Great time at Gunter Hill

Gunter Hill Corps of Engineers Campground We stayed 2 nights at Site 27 Full hookups (50 amp electric/water/sewer) $35/night Site #27. is a very long, back-in site, on a level concrete pad, very shady and secluded. The driveway is very long. The Catoma Creek is visible and a short walk just to the rear of this site, affording me quick and easy access to get to a bit of fishing.

The campground is just on the west side of Montgomery, a short drive off of the interstate, far enough away to offer plenty of peace and quiet. We enjoyed lots of walks around the park, getting familiar with the campground while exploring the Catoma loop and the more rustic, electric-only Antioc loop. We were able to put our kayaks in easily as well. The restrooms were slightly dated and dark. No trash pick up, but cans available nearby.

The campground served as a good base to explore nearby Montgomery and it’s suburbs.

    Gunter Hill Campground

    We love Gunter Hill!

We are local (30ish miles) but love to just escape here when we have 3 or 4 days and don't want to travel long distance.  Perfect spot to be closer to the river in the summer and in the woods in the fall.  Catoma loop sites are full hookup with concrete pads including both back in and pull through options.  Antioch Loop does not have sewer hookup and these sites are gravel lots but offer some amazing water views.

    Cherokee Campground

More of a Long Term Living Area

Most of the pads were filled with long-term residents. The owners were very nice. The rate was reasonable. Our gravel pad was not wide enough to be a) level and b) slide/awning out at the same time. The electric hook-up was at the opposite end of the pad from the water and sewer hook-ups. Some neighbors were friendly, others were a bit suspicious of us as interlopers based on how many times they walked past our area. Overall, would only stay again in a pinch.

Guide to Alabaster

The Alabaster area provides camping options across Shelby County with most sites situated within 30 miles of town at elevations between 400-600 feet. Summer temperatures typically reach 90°F while winter lows rarely fall below 30°F. Most campgrounds remain accessible year-round with varying levels of tree cover affecting shade availability during peak summer months.

What to do

Playground access: The Hoover Met Complex RV Park offers a playground adjacent to the camping area. "Super easy to get in and out. Easy hooks ups and good WiFi available. Playground and rock climbing area a plus," notes Chris G. The sports complex includes additional recreational facilities during operating hours.

Casino entertainment: The Wind Creek Atmore Casino RV Park provides easy access to gaming and other activities. "More than gambling… Bowling, arcade, and movie theater on the grounds," reports Brittany V. The property offers a free shuttle between the campground and casino complex for those who prefer not to walk.

Water activities: Lakeside Landing RV Park provides direct water access for boating and fishing. "Great fishing!!!" mentions Karin L. The park includes docking facilities and boat ramps with proximity to main lake channels. Multiple docks accommodate various watercraft sizes with daily and weekly rental options available.

What campers like

Easy interstate access: The Sunset RV campground provides convenient highway proximity. "Very nice place for an overnight stay. If your looking for amenities, this is not the place for you. Clean, nice management, easy in and out," writes Shilo B. Sites typically accommodate late arrivals with self-check-in options and pull-through configurations.

Level parking pads: Camping areas near Alabaster generally maintain level sites despite the region's rolling terrain. "We had a pull through spot so we didn't have to disconnect our tow dolly. Gravel site was fairly level despite being in a hilly area," reports David S. about Rolling Hills RV Park. Many campgrounds provide concrete or compacted gravel pads with minimal leveling required.

Moderate spacing between sites: Peach Park RV Park offers concrete pads with reasonable separation. "Great campground for overnight stay. 30/50 amp hook-up, water, sewer, concrete pads, playground, separate picnic area," notes Beth R. Site spacing varies significantly between parks, with some offering greater privacy than others.

What you should know

Limited tent options: Most rv parks near Alabaster, Alabama primarily accommodate RVs with few designated tent areas. Many lack dedicated tent pads or primitive camping zones. Those seeking tent camping may need to look toward state parks rather than private RV facilities.

Variable WiFi quality: Internet connectivity differs significantly between campgrounds. "WiFi is meh. Would expect more from a city campground," notes Paul C. about Hoover Met Complex. Signal strength typically depends on site location within each park and proximity to office buildings or signal boosters.

Seasonal capacity fluctuations: The Birmingham South RV Park experiences higher occupancy during travel seasons. "We used this campground as a stopover on our way to the beach. They put us in a pull though site which was awesome for being easy to make quiet exit," shares Zach F. Spring and summer weekends typically require advance reservations, while weekday availability remains more consistent.

Tips for camping with families

Pool facilities: Birmingham South RV Park offers swimming options for children. "Nice place to stop off to and from the beach. Very clean! Nice pool!" states Tammy. Pool operating hours typically follow seasonal patterns with limited hours during shoulder seasons.

Splash pad proximity: Hoover Met Complex provides additional water features. "Next to huge water park/splash pad - was a ton of fun for the kids," reports Paul C. The adjacent public splash pad operates seasonally with separate admission fees and schedule.

Indoor alternatives: Joyland RV Park provides options for inclement weather. "Owners, Bob and Joy, are very nice and helpful. Bob brought over their homemade wine and a fire pit for us to enjoy during our stay. Plus hikes and scenic drives near by," mentions reviewer K. Several campgrounds maintain indoor common spaces or covered areas for family activities during rainy conditions.

Tips from RVers

Late arrival procedures: Many rv parks around Alabaster accommodate after-hours check-in. "We were passing through and needed a place to spend the night. They have a very easy after hours method for checking yourself in," reports Jan M. about Birmingham South RV Park. Most parks provide lockboxes or envelope systems for payment and site assignments.

Leveling requirements: Sites throughout the region often require some adjustment despite appearing level. "While they are paved sites, we found that you do have to level out still by around 3 inches," notes Brittany V. about Wind Creek Atmore. Campgrounds built on former parking lots tend to offer the most level sites.

Power reliability: Electricity service remains generally stable with occasional surges during storms. "Good job staff for opening up the campground to campers fleeing the storm without having to pay," mentions Pamela B. about Hoover Met Complex during a hurricane evacuation. Power pedestals typically provide circuit protection, though surge protectors remain recommended.
