Access to the lake is by walking a distance or going out to the highway and driving a short distance to the boat ramp which is about 1/10 of a mile. The boat ramp is also a day use fee area with a pit toilet.

    Close to tensleep and climbing

This was a great place for us to get our dogs out before a day of climbing.

Being at elevation, the temperature is so much cooler than down in ten sleep.

This was about 35-40 minutes from Ten Sleep, which has service of you need that. Otherwise, this range is a no service area.

The lake offers hiking and a cool swim or fishing and boating.

There is an old ski resort for sale right on the lake, so if anyone wants to go in on that let me know. I’d live here in a heartbeat.

Bathrooms are clean and there are a lot of picnic tables.

Dirt road to get here, but FWD is not needed.

There is also dispersed camping near here if you look for it.

Not bad for in town camping

We had a tent site along the creek. There were plenty of tent spaces the weekend in mid July when we were there, but the camper sites were booked. The couple who runs the campground were so nice and accommodating. I was in Buffalo for my son's regional baseball tournament and didn't know how many days I would need to book. They let me keep my tent pitched until I knew we would need the extra day way beyond check out time.

The Bighorn Mountains are spectacular! The camp host provided us with maps and trails. The drive on highway 16 from Buffalo to Ten Sleep is amazing and worth getting off the beaten path and Interstate.

This campground has clean showers that are free and coin laundry.

Camping and Beer near climbing? Sign me up!

We stayed here on a Friday and Saturday in July of 2018 while on a climbing trip. The brewery offered dispersed tent camping on their spacious front lawn for $5/night and, given the number of vans present in the parking lot, I'd imagine they offered van camping at the same price. As far as standard camping amenities go, campers have access to an indoor restroom until the brewery itself closes, after which there are porta potties available. There is clean water available.

Some of the non-standard camping amenities include beer (duh), a food truck, several picnic tables, and board games. They also sell the official Ten Sleep climbing guidebook inside and are dog-friendly (must be leashed). The staff are really nice as well!

The only downside to camping here was the noise of a wedding afterparty that the brewery hosted one of the nights. However, this only lasted until 11pm and comes with the territory (I mean, you are camping at a brewery!). While it's certainly not the most remote spot that you could find to camp around the Grand Tetons, it's tough to beat the atmosphere, price, and beer!

    Deer Park

    Scenery, Wildlife and Peace!

I have to start off with, this is my all time favorite camp site, ever! I camped back in this campground years and years ago. The price has doubled since I last stayed there from $8 to $16 and there are many many free sites around but I am more then happy to pay the $16 for this site!

To get here you have to take the highway that goes between Buffalo and Ten Sleep. The turn off is Ten Sleep Drive, there is a resort of sorts there on the corner, you are only about 10 miles from Ten Sleep, so almost on the other side of the mountain from Buffalo. The road is all dirt and a bit wash board but it's in good condition. Slow going though, lots of dust. You'll drive a good 6 miles or so until you come to Deer Park Campground. I have seen big motor homes up here but the campground is really suited for tents, although two motor homes were parked there the night I was there. There are maybe 7 sites in this little campground.

They have made big improvements (maybe the reason for the higher price) to this campground. Years ago the toilets were awful. In fact, I wouldn't even use them, I'd rather drive down to Ten Sleep then set foot in those smelly vault toilets. But now, they are still vault toilets but they are clean, they don't smell, the building has been upgraded as well. There was plenty of toilet paper while we were there. They also have added a water pump that pumps fresh water. This is great, we were on day three of a five day road trip and the water was a welcomed bonus.

So, why do I like this site so much? It backs up to a marsh area and then a giant open meadow. It's a great place to see wildlife and enjoy the sun setting as well as some magnificent star gazing. The site is good sized (too small for a camper but plenty big for a tent). A lot of campgrounds you'll hear lots of traffic noise or people partying but it's quiet here! So quiet that my kids were probably making the most noise and I tried to keep them quiet as well. There is a creek that you can fish just across the road and it's doing quite well. If you know what your doing, I'm sure you can pull out some nice fish. Years ago, the creek was super low and we pulled out barely minnow sized fish (amazing we could even catch them) but now it's much higher and there are lots of eddies and big rocks for hiding places. I can imagine it would be fabulous. There is also a big lake another mile or so past this campground and the trout are eager there. We did catch nice fish there years ago. Didn't make it to the lake this year. There are photo opportunities around every turn. It is absolutely gorgeous!

I have never visited this area with out seeing a moose and this time did not disappoint! I woke up around 6 am and stepped out of my tent to see a nice bull moose out in that very meadow that is so scenic. He walked through and with in about 500 feet of our site and then just kept going. Beautiful creature.

I don't have any downsides, unless of course you get sick or injured. It is a ways back out. Even Ten Sleep is going to take you 30 minutes or so to get to with the slow moving dirt road out. While there we did have a small injury, my 4 year old fell in to a tree branch and cut his head, so make sure you bring a suitable first aid kit in case of small emergencies. I can't say enough about Green Goo products, which is what we put on his head after we cleaned it up. They are extremely reasonably priced and their natural products WORK! Totally worth adding to your first aid kit. This particular product (Green Goo First Aid) also helps with mosquito bites. We camped in many areas with mosquitos (here included) and I put a little First Aid ointment on them and they were gone by morning. Helps relieve the itching too.

I will always return to this site, hands down, my favorite place on earth!

    Wonderful Little Campground

We had made a one night reservation at this small campground as a stopover on our trip to Yellowstone.  As soon as we arrived we extended an additional night.  What a little gem, small clean quiet and campground host was extremely nice.  We were in Site #9.  There was a creek that ran through the campground, our site was not creek side but it was a short walk to a footbridge that crossed the creek to the tent sites.  The tent sites made us wish we were still tent campers.  There is a short trail, about 1.5 miles to a reservoir which was very nice, that ran along the creek.  It was an easy trail good for any age and kids.  The sites are very well maintained with table, cook station/table and lamp post/holder.  Vault toilets were immaculate and water spigots in several location in the campground.

    Beautiful Spot

We stayed here for just a night. Our spot was in the lower loop, as we were just tent camping. The campsite overall is wonderfully kept; tables are newly painted, the area is very clean, and each site is maintained well. Our site was also right next to the lake, which was beautiful. We saw many people fishing on the lake. There are very few trees between sites however, so there isn’t very much privacy.

    Nice little camp ground

This is a great little camp ground with both RV camping and designated Tent Camping areas. the Campground is well maintained and with a creek running through. There a hike trails near by and easy access to fishing at Tie Hack reservoir. We try to go camp here at least once a year It is close to the main road, but insulated enough that you don't really hear the road noise. This fills up quick so reservations are a good idea.

    Small but beautiful campground

We pulled in to get out of the snow storm and get an early dinner. Beautiful campground but very small, only 9 sites. The first site was the only one open and listed as a double. Other than two picnic tables, not sure what makes it a double. Not much room for two vehicles and certainly not multiple tent sites. But it served it’s purpose for us. There is a little road noise from the main road, but hard to hear over the rushing creek just behind the site. Amazing well water is worth the effort to hand pump.

Smaller campground with all the amenities

Near the base of the Big Horns Mountains, this KOA can make a great stop in between Yellowstone National Park and Mount Rushmore. This is a seasonal campground, opening on the 1st of May. This campground has cabins, full hook-ups(pull-thru, back-in sites) water-electric sites, long-term sites, and tent sites. Amenities include a heated pool, walking path, wi-fi, propane, firewood, pizza, and bathrooms. Campground Rec activities: Fishing, hiking, and golfing.

Overall, pleasant stay and the campground was clean and well cared for. The only negative thing is the noise of the trains through the night.

    Disappointed

It was hard to connect with Christine upon check-in. She was not in the office at 3:30pm and she knew we were arriving. We set up and I checked back in and no one was there. Then she got busy with RV’s. The office didn’t open until 8am so again we left. I tried to call to give my CC. They cram the RV’s in and our tent site was literally sandwiched with an RV and cabin. People walking dogs and restrooms were a walk. Stop in Thermopolis for a day and drive south to Boysen State Park and Reservoir.

    Worland RV Park & Campground

    Right for you if…

This is a great RV park with access to Worland and all it has to offer. If you’re in an RV it’s super convenient, very easy to find, and affordable with average size lots. Tenting wise, if you don’t have any other tent choices it’ll do, but tent sites- while cozy grass and intended to be private- were close together, between two busy lanes, somewhat distant from bathrooms/shower/laundry (which were all immaculate), and towards the front of property where highway traffic, train, and downtown noise were a factor. If you want space and quiet keep heading out of town an hour (nearly any direction) to make it to a USFS campground, but if you can’t Worland RV Park will be fine for an overnight stop. Staff was very friendly and all facilities, including WiFi, were secure also.

Great historical private campsite with no amenities

Easy to get to and private campsite. A little circular dirt parking area was a good spot for us to setup our trailer for the night. There is enough space for multiple RV's or tent camping. There are no amenities but great views and privacy. There is no Verizon cell phone service and TONS of broken glass and there is ample room if you want to setup a tent, but there is debris in the area. Don't let this deter you from this FREE campsite as there is tons to see and do. You can hike up bluffs and walk through the old 1880's coal mining town. We would stay at this location again as its very convenient to get to if in route out west.

    Bighorn Makes Big Dreams

Bighorn National Forest is one of my all time favorites to visit in the country. Dare I say that I enjoy it more than Yellowstone? I like it better than Yellowstone, but I do prefer National Forests over National Parks. We stay one night before heading through Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, and Jackson Hole. This is a very good campsite for the inexperienced and experienced. We had one of the tent sites and it was lovely to wake up next to the creek. There is also great history in the area like a tornado that ripped through the area. Find the plaque that explains more about that wild phenomenon when heading towards Cody. This is a great place to stay one night or fourteen.

    Cheap Views

This is a fairly cheap place to stay for a night.

The mornings are amazing as the sun hits the mountain just spectacularly.

Firewood is free and the showers cost around $5

This is one of many places you can stay on this road but just a few miles west to toward Yellowstone is an indian reservation. Not too many places to stop there.

There is a dump station and some spots have just electric or just water. I think the spots with both may cost more. but it’s $10 a night for just one without the other. Tent sites are the same.

I would have liked to stay more than one night so we could have experienced more of this beautiful area!

We are all about primitive camping but this one was a must see.

    South Fork (wyoming)

River sounds fill the air amidst forest beauty

Perfectly located, South Fork creates a sense of peace and adventure. Buffalo is 25 miles away if you need supplies or a cell signal. Hiking trails are all around. Mountain vistas are prevalent. The Bighorns are mighty big.

The campground is one road with campsites on each side. We were not next to the river but it’s sound quieted all else. The end of the loop has a parking area for tenters. Over the bridge there are a group of beautiful tent sites.

The camp host made it a point to personally greet each camper. Shaking hands, she welcomed us to this sacred space.

A hiking trail leaves the tent area and goes to Tie Hack reservoir. A multi-use trail is at the front of camp. A mile down the road is the turn off to Circle Park. 3 miles of bumpy forest roads and the trailhead appears. Amazing hikes into the Cloudpeak Wilderness can be found. Closer to Buffalo is the Mosier Gulch trail. All are perfect ways to spend your time.

Don’t miss out on this place!

Crazy Woman Canyon Road - dispersed camping

Steep rough road to remote beauty

Crazy Woman Road lives up to her name. The road is one lane with a few wide spots to pass oncoming vehicles. It starts off flat but drops steeply and continues the downward angle. It’s 15 miles if you go all the way to 87 and 5 miles until private land starts and no camping there. I would not be comfortable taking a heavy load this way. We passed 3 camps that were not bad to get to if they are open. After a bit of driving you come upon an open area to camp. People set up their tent camp across the road too. We loved this spot! It’s right next to a river with rapids that are steep enough to be considered small waterfalls. There are 5 fire pits here that are spaced around the outside of the area. You would be hard pressed to get larger trailers in here. We loved sitting by the water on some large boulders. The water is great white noise too.

    Wyoming Gardens RV Park

    2nd time around.

We stayed here 2 years ago. That is our test. Would we be back? The answer was yes. So, here we are in site #4. Staff is super friendly. Cute downtown, with health food store & brewery. Hot Springs State Park close. Recommend the free state mineral pools. Grocery store, dollar store and liquor store just a couple of blocks. Fast food within walking distance.

    PROS:

    • Each site is pull thru sites, each with direct access from the main road.
    • Each site has a small concrete patio, table and small grill with beautiful grass.
    • Sites are gravel, except tent sites wich is beautiful lush grass.
    • Shower house with 2 stalls for toilet and showers ( see video). A little dated, but super clean.
    • Easy check-in
    • Reasonable cost for full hookups.
    • Convenient to everything
    • Laundromat less than 1 block $2 wash.
    • very good WIFI

    CONS:

    • Right on the main road, but road noise was not bad.
    • Sites are close together
    • Bathrooms are a little dated, but clean.
