Russell Memorial Park provides electric hookup sites with water filling stations throughout the campground. The park is positioned along the water with waterfront sites available for a peaceful camping experience. Sites vary in size, with some accommodating larger rigs while others are better suited for smaller campers or tents. Glamping in Black River Falls, Wisconsin offers both established campgrounds and luxury accommodation options across Jackson County.
What to do
ATV trail access: Russell Memorial Park connects directly to local trail systems. "We stayed with a group for Memorial weekend. We have such a great time. Some of our group was tent camping and said the showers were nice and hot but tended to be a little muddy after awhile," notes one Russell Memorial Park visitor.
Water recreation: Lake Arbutus offers swimming, boating and fishing opportunities. "The lake is beautiful for fishing or relaxing. Right now the water is down, and there is no dock at the boat landing," reports a camper at West Arbutus County Park.
Hiking trails: Great River Bluffs State Park features seven miles of hiking trails with scenic overlooks. "The trail system is very well labeled with maps along each trail. The trail system is mostly level and I would label as easy hiking with rolling hills," explains a visitor.
What campers like
Spacious lakeside sites: East Arbutus Camp provides waterfront camping with room to spread out. "We really like how spacious and spread out the camp sites are. With big pine trees everywhere, there are lots of options for tents and campers to place their site," shares a Jackson County East Arbutus Campground guest.
Military experience: Pine View Campground at Fort McCoy offers a unique atmosphere. "Reveille, call to mess, retreat, tattoo and taps daily. If you was in the military and haven't heard bugle calls for awhile, this is the place," describes one camper.
Family activities: Hixton-Alma Center KOA features amenities that appeal to families. "Small, clean campground! Very friendly staff, very well kept! Dog park. There's also plenty of activities to do! You can swim in the pool, fish in the pond etc," notes a Hixton-Alma Center KOA visitor.
What you should know
Site selection matters: Choose campgrounds and specific sites based on your equipment size. "Our site was a little hard to get into. We stayed at site 116 with a 40 ft 5th wheel. I would recommend booking early to get a better spot for a big rig," advises a Russell Memorial Park camper.
Seasonal considerations: Many campgrounds operate from May through October. "The camp has a lot of long term sites on the waterfront so getting on one usually gets you into spring and camping," explains a visitor to Russell Memorial Park.
Noise levels: Some campgrounds experience noise from nearby highways and railways. "Highway noise from the highway running along the river and from I-90 (while not really noticeable during the day) is ridiculously loud at night," reports a Great River Bluffs State Park camper.
Tips for camping with families
Pool access: Multiple campgrounds feature swimming pools for children. "With 2 swimming pools, daily activities, movies, and a full ice cream shop you won't be bored here," reports a Neshonoc Lakeside visitor.
Cabin glamping options: Families appreciate the convenience of cabin accommodations. "A great campground for a nice getaway, Cabins are affordable and packed with amenities. There is a small camp store and boat rental where firewood is available," notes a Pine View Campground visitor.
Entertainment schedules: Check activity calendars when booking. "Bingo, tie dye, outdoor movies, and other relay races kept the kids happy and adults amused. Sunday night a jimmy buffet cover band played," shares a Neshonoc Lakeside camper.
Tips from RVers
Site leveling requirements: Be prepared to level your rig at some locations. "The sites are gravel and we had to use boards to level our rig," notes a camper at Hixton-Alma Center KOA.
Full hookup availability: Not all campgrounds offer complete services. "The back sites are ATV/UTV site. They have good access to the trails. They seem a bit bigger. There are a few full hookup in the center of the campground but not many," explains a Russell Memorial Park visitor.
Dump station access: Plan for Sunday checkout congestion at some parks. "Lots of electric sites, but no sites with water or sewer so Sunday checkout there's a line of campers waiting to dump," warns a visitor to East Arbutus Camp.
