    Coyote Run RV Park

    Great place for a night

I was skeptical about this place because it is part of an RV storage area and very close to the highway. However, I was pleasantly surprised. It is very well maintained, very neat, irrigated grass for each site. The campground is one loop with back in sites on the perimeter and pull-through sites on the "infield." I had a pull through site that was easy to navigate. Hookups are well maintained. Good Verizon cell service (3 bars). Many long term residents but with well-kept rigs. The town is sleepy at best! Be aware that on Sundays, every restaurant is closed! There is road noise audible inside the rig from accelerating/decelerating trucks but not awful. I did not look at the bathrooms and laundry but they looked very nice.

    Wine Country RV Park

    Quiet Overnight in Wine Country

I typically rate campgrounds as they fit into 1 of 5 categories. This campground will be rated as an “along the way” stay — grounds that you seek out for a night or two as a place to simply stay the night along your journey to regroup and get some sleep. Ratings for this category are based on: Cost: 4 Overall grounds: 4 Utility of sites (hookups, level ground, accessibility): 4 Noise: 5 Reservation Process/Ease of Getting a Site: 5 Layout: 4 Customer Service: 5

We only stayed at Wine Country RV Park as an overnight along our way, however, this could be a nice basecamp spot for people who love exploring wineries. The small town of Prosser has almost 30 wineries and tasting rooms in the immediate area and this park is in the midst of them all.

The staff is quite friendly and they offer tastings from local wineries in their community room frequently. It’s worth mentioning that mask-wearing seems to be finished here. To each their own, but I know it’s still very important to some.

The grounds are mostly well-kept though we did see some dog poop as we were walking around and some long term residents that took up more than their own space. The grounds are big-rig friendly and there is some grass between spaces. Premium sites have concrete pads while the lower cost sites are just gravel. The pads are mostly level, but slope upwards in some spots so unhitching can be just a little tricky. There is no privacy between sites, but the sites are wide enough for slide outs and chairs. Hookups were good, wifi was good enough for streaming (the park was only about 1/4 full while we were there). There is a pool and hot tub, both of which were closed for winter, and a small playground and basketball hoop for kids.

Price is reasonable, if a little high, for being in the middle of a bunch of wineries, and they take Good Sam and other membership discounts. The area is quaint with lots of farms (and some of the smells that go along with it). There is a cute bakery just over the bridge in the historic area of town called Jade’s. Give them a visit! Also, for runners/walkers/bikers... there is a very long path system that goes from Prosser and along the highway for miles into Sunnyside! It’s accessible about 1/2 mile from the park. Also walking distance is Vintner’s Village with a series of tasting rooms to visit.

A nice find for both passing through or staying a while longer if you’re into wines!

    Pasco Tri-Cities KOA

Good stop for a long drive - very friendly and helpful staff

We stayed here for one night on July 26, 2018.

The park is tight with very narrow spaces but well maintained. We were only stopping for one night on the way home and having a level, nice pull-through site, with hookups was nice. We never even unhooked the trailer but was spot on level. The park is pretty packed with many long-term residents visible through more permanent porches, 100 gallon propane hook up, and lots of potted plants.  Since we were traveling and the park was so clean, it didn't bother me at all but others have made note of that.

There is both dumpsters onsite but also site pickup of garbage by the park. That’s a nice unexpected service. The pool and laundry closes at 8pm but the showers are open 24 hours. The greeter was very nice and helpful, couldn't ask for any more.

Sage Hills Golf Club & RV Resort

    Perfect Weekend Getaway

With gas prices out of control this was a perfect weekend getaway right off highway 17. Immaculately kept RV sites and 20 yards from teeing off. Full hookups, propane refill and a pool. Clubhouse serves food and does have full service bar during golfing hours. (9-5). One hour from tri cities and 15 minutes from Moses Lake or the potholes.

    Circle H RV Ranch

    Disappointing

Moon travel guide said this was scenic rating of 8 out of 10. Yeah right!! This is mostly full time RVers. It’s right by a highway so there’s highway noise all night. The other side stares into an RV sales lot - ugly. Site 32’s hookups we’re broken - electricity wired wrong on both 30 & 50 amp(glad we caught it before plugging in!), water hookup wouldn’t flow. Will never stay here again, definitely not worth $57/night.

    Mardon Resort

    Convenient but Crowded

This was our first visit to an RV “resort” and it wasn’t horrible. MarDon has lots of nice amenities but boy is it crowded. If you don’t mind crowds and like the convenience of resort camping MarDon is a good choice.

(Disclaimer: I prefer boondocking and getting as far away from people as possible, so read this review with that in mind.)

MarDon Resort sits on Potholes Reservoir about 16 miles southwest of Moses Lake. The reservoir is massive and offers excellent fishing and water sports. Central Washington gets dry and hot in the summer so come prepared.

The Resort has been around since the 1970s and offers a lot of amenities: full hookup sites, tent sites, monthly rates, marina, restaurant & bar, swimming beach, mini golf, boat & golf cart rentals and more.

Guide to Mattawa

Mattawa, Washington sits at the confluence of the Columbia and Yakima rivers with an elevation of approximately 650 feet. This desert region receives less than 8 inches of annual rainfall, creating warm summers with temperatures frequently exceeding 90°F from June through August. The sparse tree cover at most RV sites near Mattawa, Washington means advance planning for shade is essential during summer visits.

What to do

Water recreation on Columbia River: Crescent Bar RV Resort provides easy access for boating and water activities. "There is a walking path that you can access easily from the campground that goes to the end of Crescent Bar," notes one visitor to Thousand Trails Crescent Bar. Another camper adds, "Dramatic cliffs make the perfect backdrop for a week of fun on the water. Tire yourself out on the river, find a sandbar and post up for the day."

Wine tasting tours: The region hosts numerous vineyards within short driving distance. At Wine Country RV Park, "Wineries in walking distance a huge plus. Loved Coyote Canyon!" shares a visitor. The park offers a unique advantage: "This could be a nice basecamp spot for people who love exploring wineries. The small town of Prosser has almost 30 wineries and tasting rooms in the immediate area."

Golfing opportunities: Several resorts offer direct golf course access. According to a visitor at Sage Hills Golf Club & RV Resort, "With gas prices out of control this was a perfect weekend getaway right off highway 17. Immaculately kept RV sites and 20 yards from teeing off. Full hookups, propane refill and a pool."

What campers like

Spacious sites: Many parks offer extra-wide spots for comfortable setup. At Horn Rapids RV Resort, "The lots are not real big, but the landscaping is pristine (think golf course) and overall the park is meticulously maintained." Another visitor confirms, "We will definitely be adding this spot to our route again when we pass through."

Clean facilities: Well-maintained bathrooms and showers receive consistent praise. At Coyote Run RV Park, visitors appreciate the "very wide road through the park which is nice and long pull-through sites." Another camper notes, "Clean, great private showers, nice area for our evening mile walk. Some noise from highway traffic, but not terrible."

River views: Campsites with water visibility are especially valued. At Crescent Bar RV Resort, "We have a beautiful spot with a view of the water, surrounded by green grass, a willow tree and pickle ball court. There are a lot more trees and privacy in this campground compared to the other one."

What you should know

Pet restrictions: Some facilities limit animal sizes or breeds. One frustrated visitor to Wine Country RV Park reports, "Looks great on paper. However these people must be into froufrou type dogs. 40 POUND LIMIT. We travel with our fur kids (over 40 pounds). Shallow minded management."

Seasonal closures: Many campgrounds operate limited schedules. At Columbia Sun RV Resort, "Wifi was being upgraded but cell service with Verizon wasn't an issue. Will go back." The resort provides both 30-amp and 50-amp electrical options across its 145 sites.

Highway noise: Proximity to major roads affects some locations. A visitor at Coyote Run RV Park mentions, "There is road noise audible inside the rig from accelerating/decelerating trucks but not awful." Another notes, "Although you can hear the traffic going by still a nice park. This is the trade off with being close to town."

Tips for camping with families

Pool access: Facilities with swimming options provide relief from summer heat. At Horn Rapids RV Resort, "There is a really nice pool and hot tub, laundry room, showers, and a very nicely stocked store that includes hot food available." These amenities help families manage extended stays.

Recreation facilities: On-site activities keep children entertained. According to a visitor at Columbia Sun RV Resort, "Enjoyed the pool and event centers. ALOT of full timers which doesn't bother me - not sure if we bothered them. No firepits but we knew that before going - brought a propane fire pit with us."

Security features: Gated communities provide peace of mind. At Warden Lake RV Resort, "The gated entry provided extra sense of security and it was a very relaxing stay." The resort also offers "Good lake for fishing trout. Definitely will go back."

Tips from RVers

Pull-through availability: Sites designed for minimal maneuvering reduce setup stress. A Sage Hills Golf Club visitor emphasizes, "Never been to an RV Park where all the sights r 50' plus and pull-thrus. We will be back a lot more."

Hookup specifications: Understanding electrical limitations prevents problems. At Sage Hills Golf Club & RV Resort, full hookups include "50/30 amp service and price INCLUDES ELECTRIC!!! Very clean RV Resort! Lots of grass b/n sights."

Dump station planning: Not all facilities offer this service. A reviewer of Wine Country RV Park noted, "We only stayed at Wine Country RV Park as an overnight along our way, however, this could be a nice basecamp spot for people who love exploring wineries."
