Best RV Parks & Resorts near Danville, VA

Several RV parks surround Danville, Virginia with varying amenities and hookup options. Paradise Lake & Campground in Keeling offers water, sewer, and electric hookups with 50-amp service year-round. The campground features lakefront sites though some RV pads require leveling assistance. Indian Heritage RV Park in Martinsville provides big-rig friendly sites with full hookups including 50-amp electrical service. Mayo Lake Park in Roxboro, North Carolina maintains 30-amp electric and water hookups with a sanitary dump station, though the dump station is positioned near the tent camping area rather than the RV loop. "The RV sites are all pull thru nearly level, big gravel sites. We had plenty of room for our 45' plus toad."

Navigation to some campgrounds requires attention to road conditions, particularly when towing larger rigs. Mayo Lake Park features a one-way curvy access road to reach the RV camping loop, potentially challenging for longer motorhomes. Lake Reidsville Recreation Park accommodates RVs with 50-amp service but is not classified as big-rig friendly. Hyco Lake State Park Campground provides electric hookups and a dump station but reviews indicate leveling can be difficult as "a lot of sites are sloped. Very hard to level out an RV." Most parks in the region remain open year-round, with Thousand Trails Lynchburg operating seasonally from late April through October. Campgrounds generally allow pets, though amenities like propane filling stations and RV storage are not commonly available at parks surrounding Danville.

Really well thought out campground for RV. Plenty of pull through and back in sites. Level sites, utilities are well placed and good height. Well maintained…you can tell staff takes pride in campground. Multiple dog parks….so convenient so you have one close to your area. Lots of recreation, great pickle ball area and pool. Laundry is honor system per load …pay in office.

    Fairy Stone State Park Campground

CCC Cabin - Couple's Weekend Away!

MY husband and I stayed two nights in a 1 bed efficiency CCC Cabin at Fairy Stone State Park for a short weekend away from the kids. We visited in December so it was pretty cold weather but the cabin was so cozy and comfortable! We loved having the fireplace! The cabins have a bathroom, shower, kitchen with sink, fridge, oven/stove, microwave, toaster, everything you need! They have heating and a/c as well. The cabin was built in the 1930s and is so charming! Loved everytihg about our experience here.

There is no cell service or internet/wifi at the cabins though so come prepared with something to do! We found it to be very relaxing to unplug!

    Sweetwater RV Park

    Quiet, clean campground!

This campground was exceptionally clean and very quiet/peaceful. We went to the playground to play and pool to swim - had it to ourselves - with our 18 month old. The staff is amazing and clearly love what they do. They were friendly from the start and they let us know they were available for help, etc. The site itself was an easy pull-through. It was clean and hookups were easy to figure out (first time RVers here; not new to camping though). I would say this campground has achieved the 'family-friendly' atmosphere, for sure! SML State Park is 10mns away! We will definitely be back!

I thought being at the end of the loop would be noisy due to traffic coming through, but it didn't bother us one but!

    Horseshoe Point

    Quiet and Secluded Park

It was as little off the beaten path but the roads were good. All of the sites were wooded, the outside loop sites had more privacy since your door opened to the lake/woods. You have water and electric in the RV sites and I think there are more tent sites, dry sites, which can also be used for RV's than there are water and electric. Most of the tent sites are right along the lake. The RV sites tended to be higher and a little farther from the water but in sight. It seemed that most sites required a little help to get level. Bath house was fairly close and very clean. They have a couple of nice beach areas for playing abound in the water with picnic tables and fire pits nearby. Did want to mention that they provided 30 amp service vs the 20 amp shown here.

COE Philpott Lake Goose Point Park

A perfect blend: natural setting, comfort & convenience.

Stayed here for 2 nights, the location is wonderful, many sites front the lake, which could be rather cold, although they provide such lovely surroundings.  Waking up to sunrise over the water, as the cold air turned to mist over the warmer water was pretty spectacular. Each site was comfortable, we had a fire ring, picnic table, and a full hook-up, although water at each site was turned off (end of November), water was still available a few hundred feet away. The site volunteers were wonderful, former park rangers, bathrooms were very clean, firewood was available and there were dumpsters to leave our trash on the way out. This is a very family-friendly campground, there were a good deal of kids riding their bikes around at all hours, so if you are planning to sleep in, this may not be the spot.

    Mayo Lake Park

    Peaceful, secluded

We camped here during Thanksgiving. It's a county run campground so the employees were off during Thanksgiving so they gave us a key to the gate if we needed to leave when no-one was there. The campground is primarily designed for small campers but there are a few spots that would accommodate campers in the 40 foot range. Three are two loops, one for RVs and one for tent campers. The loop for RVs has a one way curvy road to the loop. The bathhouse isn't in the loop it is at the top of the hill. The site that is closest to the bathhouse is site 27 and it will accommodate large campers. The dump station isn't near the RV loop it is near the tent loop.

    Greensboro KOA

    Noisy and poorly maintained

This campground has a lot of potential. Unfortunately it is situated right next to a major highway so it is quite noisy. That is something that I can somewhat overlook if the facilities are great. However, with numerous stays here, the campground continued to be poorly maintained. We stayed here in a travel trailer.

    Spring Hill RV Park

Almost want to keep it a secret

We stayed here during the week, on short notice, and were really happy with it. The management was accommodating and responsive, and friendly. The park is nicely hidden in the trees; it's only about 10 min to Chapel Hill/Carrboro stores, restaurants, etc. The spaces are far enough apart that they aren't on top of each other. The Wifi is excellent and, I believe, cell service is good for pretty much everyone since it's so close to the Triangle. There are no facilities/bathhouses. There is water, sewer, and electricity, and each site has a fire ring and a picnic table. This is a "former" mobile home park but there are a handful of mobile homes grandfathered in. We didn't have any problem with it, though. It's nice, quiet, and peaceful at night. We'll hopefully be returning here often.

Guide to Danville

Campgrounds surrounding Danville, Virginia offer distinct features beyond basic hookup accommodations. The region sits at elevations ranging from 400-800 feet above sea level with a moderate climate allowing most facilities to operate year-round. The area's camping options include both lakefront properties and wooded settings with varying road access conditions that campers should consider when planning their trips.

What to do

Water activities at lakefront sites: Paradise Lake & Campground features a small lake with swimming and fishing opportunities. "We had a really relaxing stay here. The pool was clean and well balanced. The walking trail was nice but you will for sure want to take an extra large can of deep woods off or equivalent. There are swarms of large flys all around the water on the trail."

Disc golf courses: Hyco Lake State Park Campground offers frisbee golf among its recreational activities. "GORGEOUS location, many sites with water views and directly on the water. Beautifully maintained park. Water and Electric, dump station. Must have a low boat, or a top that can drop due to many VERY low bridges in the area. Great ramp, ample trailer storage, frisbee golf, beautiful hiking trail."

Hiking trail access: Mayo Lake Park provides marked walking paths throughout the property. "Lots of clearly marked hiking trails, 3 playgrounds, Frisbee golf and horshoe pits. Really preety and lots of boat docks. Staff are super nice."

What campers like

Spacious, private sites: Jones Station RV Park offers generous spacing between campsites. "This is a first…never given a PRIVATELY OPERATED RV PARK the highest possible rating, but this place blew us away…sites were huge with large space between...everything was immaculate…obviously owners take enormous pride in their property and care for their customers!"

Clean facilities: Cane Creek Campground and RV Park maintains well-kept bathhouses. "Beautiful little park nestled into the woods! Our site (17) was on the opposite side of the real lake access and right across from the annual spots so we never really had too much privacy but most of the neighbors were very curteous and friendly. The bathhouses were very clean-if a little spidery for me (eek!), and both in pretty convenient locations for everyone."

Quiet atmosphere: Spring Hill RV Park offers a peaceful setting despite proximity to urban areas. "We stayed here during the week, on short notice, and were really happy with it. The management was accommodating and responsive, and friendly. The park is nicely hidden in the trees; it's only about 10 min to Chapel Hill/Carrboro stores, restaurants, etc. The spaces are far enough apart that they aren't on top of each other."

What you should know

Site leveling challenges: Many rv campgrounds near Danville, Virginia require attention to site selection. At Hyco Lake State Park, "Nice roads but the sites could use some updating. A lot of them are sloped. Very hard to level out a RV. Playground could use updating and maybe a fence around since it's so close to the road."

Road access considerations: The approach to camping areas can present challenges at some locations. Mayo Lake Park has logistical considerations: "The road leading to the camping area is single lane so if you meet another camper going the other way it could get a little dicey."

Seasonal operations: While many rv campgrounds in Danville area operate year-round, Thousand Trails Lynchburg has a limited season. "Only open from May to October each year so be sure to check that out before just showing up! Plenty of activities to include water sports, trail system as noted, and the area is absolutely stunning."

Tips for camping with families

Multiple playground options: Cane Creek Campground offers several play areas for children. "There are 3 parks which kiddo had a great time making friends at."

Swimming pool access: Sweetwater RV Park provides pool facilities that may not be crowded during weekdays. "We went to the playground to play and pool to swim - had it to ourselves - with our 18 month old. The staff is amazing and clearly love what they do."

Family-friendly atmosphere: Paradise Lake & Campground maintains a peaceful environment suitable for families with children. "Lake view, clean in-ground pool, staff was nice and campground was family oriented and peaceful."

Tips from RVers

Reliable connectivity: Several rv campgrounds Danville, Virginia provide workable internet access. Jones Station RV Park receives positive reviews for its connectivity: "WiFi that actually works!"

Utility placement: Consider how hookups are positioned at various sites. Paradise Lake & Campground has well-designed utility connections. "The sites are fairly level and the hookups were all in good order and locations."

Site selection for large rigs: Indian Heritage RV Park accommodates larger recreational vehicles. "Just got here. The people who run this place have been very kind and great to work with on reservations. The site we have was easy to back in. Everything works well. The WiFi is decent. Convenient location for the Martinsville area."
