Highly recommend keeping your sedans and low riders at home, watched a Honda Civic struggle to get out and since the road is one way in and out, could have caused some major problems.
Coyotes were out and all campers were peaceful. Scuba divers showed up in the morning to get some practice in which is around the time we headed out.
Really peaceful and walking distance to the Bristlecone trails. Besides an incredibly rude group of people who didn’t understand quiet hours we had a great time! Restrooms were clean and camp host made frequent trips around the campgrounds.
Easy access and great if you need a place for the night or just to rest. Can't beat free!

Nice covered spots with picnic tables, pit toilets and trash services. Beautiful view of the lake, few spots were occupied when we drove by so it is open and available if you're looking for a place to camp!

Right on the beach, quite a few RVs and camper vans spread out along the lake. Little rocky and bumpy in places but nothing a 2WD couldn't handle.
Since COVID has closed all state and national parks to camping, we were happy to find this BLM land for an overnight. There are no services and the ground is a little bumpy/sandy but we were able to get around just fine in our camper van. There was a makeshift fire ring at our site, but it was so windy and dry brush everywhere that we didn't want to attempt to use it.
We for service on both Verizon and Sprint! Had some coyotes track around our van over night so make sure you keep everything inside!
Like the others have said, this is a playground for people with dune buggies and other toys. Lots of trash piled up around posts and after a ran its soggy and damp. If you're looking for a place to sleep for the night, I'd keep searching.
If you take the road off Hwy 50 there is an area with hot springs and a place to camp. No covered areas but set up fire pits so may be best for camper van/ RV style trips. Hot spring at the top has a silt bottom but very relaxing, and cell phone service! Drive in was packed gravel and got muddy when we were coming in because of rain but our campervan had no issues.
Free campsites along the reservoir, windy up on the high spots. Fire pits, picnic tables (some with shade) and wind fences. Great views, better for campervan or RV camping just because of the high wind and no pads, but you could do it. No cell coverage on sprint or Verizon while here.
Drove in and veered to the right to a campground that had a firepit next to a juniper bush that provided some nice privacy. Very quiet at night, did some hiking around the area and lots of desert wildflowers and landscape. Does have a trashcan but not much else. We had a 17ft sprinter van and accessed it with no problem. Lovely free campsite for the night.
Since Basin was closed due to COVID, we stayed at the Sac Pass area right outside and it didn't disappoint. When you pull in there are about 6 spots with shade, picnic tables, trash cans, toilets and firepits. If you take an immediate left when you pull in, go up to the equestrian campgrounds. We stayed at the one on the far left and it was secluded with a tent pad and firepit/table. Toilets were clean and well maintained. Hiked the Sac Pass trail and Lucky Boy trail right outside out camping spot. Some cell service in certain spots.
