    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Mountain Home, Utah sits within the Ashley National Forest, where camping options range from developed sites to primitive backcountry areas. The Riverview Campground, located directly in Mountain Home, provides tent and glamping accommodations with picnic tables, fire rings, and vault toilets in a forested setting. Within a 30-minute drive, Moon Lake offers additional established camping with cabin options and lakeside access. The surrounding Uinta Mountains feature both reservation-based campgrounds and dispersed camping opportunities, with elevations typically between 7,000-9,000 feet providing cooler temperatures than much of Utah.

Most campgrounds in the region operate seasonally from May through September or early October, with weather determining exact opening dates. Winter snowpack can delay access to higher elevation sites until late spring. According to campers, nighttime temperatures remain cool even during summer months. "Definitely chilly at night time, but that's expected this time of year," noted one visitor to a nearby campground. Cell service varies significantly throughout the area, with better connectivity at lower elevations and near towns. Many campgrounds require advance reservations, while dispersed camping on national forest land follows standard 14-day stay limits.

Water access represents a significant draw for campers in the Mountain Home area. One visitor described Moon Lake as "more green than I usually expect from Utah. Great kayaking and some moderate/long hikes on site." Fishing opportunities abound in local streams and lakes, with trout being the primary catch. Wildlife sightings are common, with campers reporting everything from deer to wolves in the vicinity. Road noise can be an issue at campgrounds near highways, with sites deeper in the forest offering more solitude. Campers frequently mention the area's stargazing potential due to minimal light pollution, particularly at more remote sites away from developed areas.

      Currant Creek

      Beautiful and remote

I've been camping here since I was a little girl and it's always been one of my favorite places in the world. I love how high up and difficult it is to get up there. Bugs weren't too bad this year, everything was clean and well maintained. We stayed in loop B and the host was amazing

      Jackson Camping Area

      Great Site, Next to Creek

Quiet and right next to creek, mosquitoes were not too much of an issue. 10ish miles down the road After the hot springs trail head.

      Strawberry Ridge Dispersed Camping

Beautiful Sites the farther you go

A lot of Dispersed camping off the road, the beginning fills up with RVs pretty quick but if you are willing to go up the road for a while you will be rewarded with beautiful spots and quiet serene nature. High clearance is recommended, but with careful driving, anyone can get up the road. Some spots require 4x4, and those are some of the best.

      Carter Military Trail Yurt

      Absolutely Amazing!!

I recommend this spot to anyone looking to getaway. We didn't see anyone for well over 24hrs while we were staying here. The yurt comes with a double burner and propane, we didn't use it but I thought that was lovely. And a wood burning stove inside. LOVE it! So quiet and peaceful. Worth every penny!!

      Mud Creek Campground

      Serene night

An area with many (20?) dispersed sites on a gently sloping meadow. We found a site tucked in the aspens above. Only drawback is the occasional atv

      Main Canyon Road

FCFS Free! Plenty of spots, with lots of room!

Beautiful, quiet for the most part. I parked at one of many, large, open spaces on the East main Canyon Road, A little traffic people going I and down, but nothing bothersome. The main highway is close, but I can barely hear it. From what I can tell, there are many options along the highway as well, including one pay to use campground. There’s also several ways to access this main road.

      McCoy Flats East Dispersed Camp

      Great spot

Nice quiet place to camp with a pit toilet nearby. Less traffic than the first two parking areas
