Hurricane Cliffs BLM dispersed #39

BLM Land — St. George Field Office encompasses Hurricane Cliffs BLM dispersed #39, a designated camping area that serves mountain bikers and RV travelers exploring southern Utah's red rock country. The Bureau of Land Management maintains this free camping spot with numbered sites accessible via dirt roads that branch off from the main route.

Campers navigate a packed dirt road system to reach sites 39-48, though the surface becomes challenging during wet conditions when clay soil creates traction issues. The area accommodates various camping setups, from fifth wheels and travel trailers to vans and tents, with fire rings provided at designated spots. Site spacing varies considerably, with some locations positioned within 20 feet of neighbors while others offer several hundred feet of separation. Mountain bikers frequently pass through the area accessing the JEM trail system.

Cell coverage reaches 2-3 bars for AT&T and full signal strength for T-Mobile users. David N. notes the area works well for "self contained units as the only vault toilet is at the Sheep Creek MTB parking lot." Summer temperatures climb significantly, and reviewers mention daytime insects that subside after dark. Wind patterns affect the area regularly, creating dust when vehicles travel the access roads at higher speeds.

Campers should pack all water and plan for primitive conditions without restrooms or trash services. The location provides convenient staging for camping near Virgin and day trips to Zion National Park.

Dispersed camping

Bumpy road getting to the primitive road turnoff where the designated campsites are. Packed dirt road where sites 40-48 are, but difficult to find a spot where vehicle is if you’re staying in a rv/van. Road washed out in some places. Fire pits at spaces. Must camp in a designated campsite here. Right next to the JEM trail for mountain biking. Lots of bikers. Easy access from site.

Great views, obvious spots

Riding in, expect to become a first class citizen of dashboard city. No ruts of note, so a regular car could make it in. As you follow the road in, you will see roads branching off that lead to the designated camping spots. I saw 5th wheels, towables, vans, and tents out here. The views are gorgeous!! It is clear this is a hotspot for mountain bikers. I have had a few ride past my campsite. The campsite I am at (42) is very shallow... so I wouldn't recommend a trailer at this spot. There is a firering at the campsite. This campsite is not very level, so I ended up using a few rocks to level my truck. There is another campsite within 20 feet... but at the moment no one is there. The next campsite is a few hundred feet away. Att 5G, 2-3 bars. Very nice spot. The road in speed limit is like 25 uphill, but I have been watching trucks and jeeps flying over the road making huge dust plumes. I would avoid the spots right next to the road for this reason.

Avoid when raining

We camped in site 39, just of the dirt road but far enough away for privacy Site can accommodate three RVs with trucks or equivalent vans etc Beautiful views great MTB trails definitely one of our favourite places to camp on this road trip However, avoid when wet and raining as the dirt pad will quickly turn to stick clay and the potential to get stuck is high We left the day before 4 days of rain and checked it out after- so glad we made that decision Full cell signal Best suited to self contained units as the only vault toilet is at the Sheep Creek MTB parking lot Our dogs did discover human poop and tissue near by, not good If you need to poop in the desert dig a hole and bury it please

Close to Zion

This is BLM camping. It is designated sites only. I think there are 58 total. Spaced out nice. Great views. No water, toilets or electric. No garbage. Less than 1/2 hour to Zion. Nice dirt road coming in. Can get windy.

Amazing views

AT&T between 2-3 bars. Fire rings. No water so bring your own. Small hiking or jogging trails. Gets pretty hot in summer months. Have a way to cool down if going in summertime. Dog friendly. Firewood not much here. Some dry deadened bushes, small scraps. Dusty. Somewhat windy at times. Bugs I hear are troublesome in day. They go away at night. Not too bad of a place.

Dispersed #39 best for big RVs group!

This flat short open campsite is the holy grail for big RVs and class As to camp together on a dead end point. Very close to main road but far enough back for privacy. Easy access to camp with a group.
