Rocky Point Campground — Santa Rosa Lake State Park

Santa Rosa Lake is a little gem in the middle of the New Mexican desert! Lake is stunning and has clear clean lovely water. It seems that most use the lake for boating and fishing, we saw some jet skis as well. However you can absolutely swim! Water was cold and perfect for a hot day.

Campground is well kept, with ample spots. It was pretty busy but we had no problem booking a day before. Bathrooms are clean and showers were great! They operate by button and each press is about a minute of water. It warmed up quickly and I love the sustainable way of conserving water.

Staff was very friendly and attentive. It was a little buggy at sunset but otherwise very lovely!

Stayed one really quiet night. Only 2 other sites in B loop were occupied. $23.50 w/fee for out of state non-electric site. A loop is all electric and B is non. An assortment of pull thru and back-in sites. Clean bathrooms and 1 bar Verizon, sufficient to book and some other online tasks

I enjoyed my stay here. I camped in winter and it was so nice to have a bathroom with heat and flushing toilets.

My spot was clean and the hosts were nice.

Great little campground that sits just above the lake. Access trails down to the lake, very beautiful!

The spaces are large and provide a decent amount of room away from other camp sites, the facilities are well maintained and the campground has excellent views of the lake!

Gorgeous hiking trails that meander through rocky terrain filled with a diversity of desert plants. Several were in bloom when I was there in October. Some trails meander down to a large cool lake suitable for swimming. The area was well kept, and rangers at the visitor center were courteous and helpful.

Some things to consider before staying here. Must love ants! My campsite had many nests, and they didn’t bother me at all. The area gets lots of wind and sun exposure. There are several large junipers that offer sun and wind shade, and most campsites have a covered picnic table but mine did not.

Stayed 4 nights at Rocky point loop A site A3. It is a water and electric site. The sites are all spaced very far apart for a campground and each site has a covered area with a picnic table and grill. Plenty of room. There are no fire pits and no ground fires allowed although you can have one in the grill if you bring your own wood.

Stopped on my way thru NM. Bathroom/shower facilities are great! Most sites have a covered picnic table and grill. There is a playground for kids and dumping station. It’s about a 7 mile drive from Int 40.

Great overnight stop for 1 or 2 nights

Lovely Campground with great facilities. Most cites have full hook ups but some only have electricity. Keep in mind when booking. Nice hiking trails and the hosts were on their game, really keeping up with the grounds. I'd come back if I was passing through again.

Sadly, the Lake is low, but it is a great overnight spot. Can’t beat the price. Just a bit off the beaten path. It was quite windy though.

Rocky Point was one of two campgrounds we saw in Santa Rosa Park. All sites had picnic tables, some sites had electricity and water, and some sides just had water. The bathrooms in Rocky point had flush toilets and showers. The bathrooms were very clean. The camp host was very friendly. This was a very nice campground and not too far from Highway 40.

I took the last site on short notice with electricity for four nights over the weekend, the handicap site. I went back and double checked, the NMSP website has not clearly state that only a van or very short class C would fit in the spot. I got my 20 foot trailer in but my truck is sticking out into the road a tiny bit. The sites are very close together and unfortunately, right after I arrived a couple of families set up right next to me complete with screaming kids and yapping dogs. Campers with kids and dogs should have their own camping loops, maybe their own campgrounds. So many people do not appreciate the quiet and solitude of a natural woods. As soon as the kids arrived, it seemed like they were told to scream as loud as they could. Disgusting. So one star for this campground and the poor layout

This place needs to be patrolled by law enforcement. Vagrant drug users acting crazy in the middle of the night.

Campgrounds were fairly clean here. Keep in mind that if you are tent camping A LOT of the spots are extremely rocky and just full of gravel! Campground has clean showers and bathrooms as well. Sites are fairly close to the lake too. The campground is also only about 12 minutes away from the town of Santa Rosa if you’re in need of supplies!

Sites clearly marked. All seem to be pretty level. HOT showers and clean bathrooms. 10 min walk down to lake. Beautiful area with lots of wildlife walking through the campground.

We spent a few days at this campground and I was especially impressed with how clean the bathrooms and showers were. There were trails that we enjoyed off the loop we were on. It was super quiet and yet very close to town in case we needed anything. My kids enjoyed the playground!

I stayed in Rocky Point , A loop. Nice campground in desert setting overlooking the lake. A lot of pull thru sites as well as back ins. Electric was all thru the loop, however water hook ups were not. A pump was located a little ways down the loop, however. Some sights had covered picnic tables, others not. If shade is important check the details before booking and it will tell if you have water and the pic will show the picnic table. Nice trails. Enjoyed the scenic lake loop. Juniper campground was walk-in only and looked to be much more secluded but without amenities. There was also a primitive camping area.

We almost lost the tent one day. There isn't alot of shelter for tents. The bathrooms are clean and plenty of hot water for showers.

About 10 miles from I40. Nice park. Unfortunately lake is way down. Cool nights for August.

Book on Reserve America for New Mexico “Santa Rosa Lake” very pretty and peaceful. Not all streets were labeled but the directions worked to get us there just fine. Park for kids, gorgeous sunsets and the stars show off at night. Clean bathrooms. Had hookups.

Wonderful State Park to stay for a few days. Not a whole lot to do but be with nature and the stars! There is a "Shoreline Trail" if ya want a short hike to do. I'll post activity in "AllTrails" as "AllTrails" has one much shorter that what the park has. 

We stayed in the Rocky Point Campground Loop B, reservations only, and it was a nice place to stay. Sites are a bit uneven but hey it's a state park!!  We were in site B4 which was plenty big for our 40' rig providing we had to "back in" to a "pull in" site!! There is a big cedar tree in the way and made would make the turn to sharp and scratch the rig... other than that it was a wonderful site!

The site has no electric or water but there is water filling station in Loop A across from the Bathroom/Showers building. Just a short hose will do the trick. There is also water spigots in the middle of each loop but takes to much hose from where we are staying!

We stopped here for one night in late October on a cross country road trip in our new-to-us-Roadtrek camper van. Campground was easy to reserve online and easy to find despite it being very dark when we arrived. It was windy as heck but my husband and I marveled at the stars before tucking in for the night. Bathhouse was open and clean but I could NOT get the shower to get warm despite multiple times pushing the button in all of the available stalls. Ah well. Would definitely stop in again for a few more nights if we’re ever in the area again!

Reserved on ReserveAmerica while on the way. May more available sites here than what showed up online. Gorgeous views, not every site has water, electric 30 at A011. Bathrooms decent but shower coolish especially because you have to keep pushing the button!

Nice clean and friendly campground host. Early December, no one was there. Great short hikes around the lake.

I was really impressed with the sites. The tables had a nice cover over them and each one had a electric hook up with a regular 110 outlet. We stayed in a tent, but the sides were clearly for RVs. Didn’t matter to us. There were trails all around that we took our mountain bikes on. Not biking trails, but we were able to navigate them with some skills and careful judgement. 

Santa Rosa state park in NM perched above a water-starved reservoir on the Pecos river. There’s minimal cell or WiFi. It’s a lovely spot. Reservations must be made through ReserveAmerica. Some sites have power but no water but there’s a water fill station in the CG.

Nice park 10 miles out of town. It would be nice to stay longer. We could of stayed in town for just overnight. Great spot, quiet, clean, showers, potties, all good.

Very nice park. Reasonable rate. Love the view.
