Brazos Bend State Park Campground accommodates pets at all campsites with standard leash requirements, offering both tent and RV sites with electric hookups and water connections. Stephen F. Austin State Park Campground similarly welcomes pets throughout its facilities, featuring multiple pet-friendly accommodation options including tent sites, RV hookups, and cabins. The campgrounds maintain clean facilities with picnic tables at both locations. Large, spacious sites at Jetstream RV Resort provide concrete pads ideal for pet owners needing room to set up outdoor containment. Most campsites require pets remain on leashes no longer than six feet except in designated areas.

Hiking trails throughout Brazos Bend State Park offer excellent opportunities for exercising dogs while viewing wildlife, including the park's famous alligators which require extra vigilance with pets. Many campers report seeing dozens of alligators along the trails, necessitating careful pet management especially during hatching season. The park's extensive bike and hiking paths provide ample space for daily pet walks. Seasonal considerations include summer heat that can affect pets on trails, with morning or evening walks recommended during warmer months. The observatory area requires pets be kept quiet during evening stargazing sessions. Most campgrounds provide designated pet waste stations and trash receptacles for convenient cleanup.

Houston / Med Center KOA Holiday

Great rv campground close to airport

Great campground with wonderful staff who are very friendly. Full hookup, paved sites with heated saltwater pool and hot tub, workout facilities, clubhouse with games and puzzles, laundry facilities, a small camp store, and pet friendly with two small dog parks. The best thing about the location is that it backs up to Tom Bass park that has wonderful dog parks along with playgrounds and frisbee golf. Would definitely be staying here again!

      Serendipity Bay RV Resort

Peaceful but sites too close together

Very well-maintained and pet-friendly RV park with various amenities such as a pool, fishing pier, and dog park. Sites are very close together with little room to set up outside between RVs. Very little room to park vehicle once RV is in place and limited space to back in. Enjoyed the peaceful sunrises and sunsets and the constant breeze was a plus to keep the humidity and heat down. Take plenty of anti-mosquito repellent, as around mid-morning and late afternoon, the mosquitoes come out in force. A good location for those wishing to fish, but not sightseeing. The town has very few amenities and only a couple of restaurants and small stores.

      Whispering Oaks RV Park

      Nice campground

We were greeted immediately by a friendly attendant, and quickly led to our campsite. The grounds were lovely, with beautiful live oaks, a manicured walking path among the oaks behind the property, and a nice garden with chickens and guinea fowl for entertainment. The property included a playground, a dog park, and an activity center (inaccessible because of COVID), laundry facilities, propane, and more. Each campsite was very clean, with a picnic table, and lights in the oaks for ambiance.

      I recommend this place!

Houston / Med Center KOA Holiday

      A lot of Amenities

The park is clean, but the sites are tight. The further you get to the front the louder the traffic noise is, but the sites are larger and spaced out more. It is a five and take. It has three locations with washer and dryers, two dog parks, a recreation room and easy access to Tom Bass park.

      Brackenridge Park & Campground

      Beautiful lake

Randomly found this campground. There are some shaded spots and some wide open areas. All of the rv area is behind locked gates with codes that change. There is a police car that patrols the area. There are trails, a dog park, the lake, wildlife, an event center up the road, a small ball field and .... Wish I had found this earlier in our travels

      KOA Port Lavaca Matagorda Bay

      Up and Coming!

This New Holiday Campground is really getting off the ground. Staff is amazing and very welcoming. They have great amenities and the campsites are great sized. Facilities are clean and nice upgrades. Laundry on site and machines work really well and its open 24/7. They have a camp store that is really great and well stocked. They are very dog friendly with a dog park and daily trash pick up at your site. The kids loved the pool and us parents enjoyed the hot tub.

      South Main RV Park

Good for proximity to NRG stadium

My husband and I came to the Houston rodeo and stayed here strictly for proximity to the stadium. The RV park did have a shuttle which was very nice to get us to and from. Most sites are large enough for big rigs, you do have to park on the gravel right in front of your rig which can be tight. Nice concrete pads at each site. Traffic can be loud and there are many full-time set ups here with permanent residents. Has a gate with a code so it did feel safe at night. Small dog park that could use some extra TLC. Laundry on premises, no play ground, good wifi and Verizon service.

      Brackenridge Recreation Complex

A Full Recreation Area with camping

A minimum of water and electric at every site (which we don’t need) The feel is more community park with camping. There is a 12 mile equestrian trail which bikes are allowed to ride on. Other flat trails are around the park and water. It is completely full this Saturday and there are lots of families, music and fires burning. I do not consider this to be a serene wilderness/wildlife area but a Camping area full of activities. Looks like a great place for a family reunion or wedding. Complete with frisbee golf, boating, swimming, dog park, playground and more. The grounds are very well kept.

    Guide to Wharton

The Wharton area in Texas offers camping opportunities in flat coastal prairie terrain, with elevations averaging 100-125 feet above sea level. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F with high humidity, while winter nights can drop into the 40s. The region's proximity to the Brazos River and Colorado River watersheds creates diverse camping environments across multiple parks.

    What to do

Wildlife viewing along waterways: El Campo Lost Lagoon provides fishing ponds directly adjacent to RV sites. According to Levi B., "If you have a toy hauler the 🎣 pond side is beautiful and quiet, just back in and let the party patio down!"

Water recreation for hot months: El Campo Lost Lagoon features extensive water attractions beyond simple swimming. Garrison H. notes, "Pool has a smaller kids area with tons to do and play with and a bigger pool with rock slides, rope swing, swim up bar, lazy river, and plenty of area for people to just lay out."

Observatory stargazing: Stephen F. Austin State Park Campground offers night sky viewing opportunities. The park maintains quiet hours during these events. Taylor T. mentions, "Staff is awesome and helped us get in for a late check in. Spots have hook ups and great for a night passing through the houston area."

Nature trails for all abilities: Parks feature well-marked trails for various activity levels. Drew P. from Brazos Bend states, "It's always fun to hike or bike around the trails and see all types of birds, alligators, and other wildlife. For us it is close by which is another added bonus."

    What campers like

Spacious sites with concrete pads: Jetstream RV Resort at Wharton offers large, level sites with all-concrete pads. Rachel H. comments, "Large spacious sites. All concrete, minimal grass is behind outer rim sites."

Modern facilities: Eric and Jays RV Resort provides updated amenities. Carlyne F. reports, "The welcome building, bathrooms/showers and gym are all brand new and updated with modern design. There is coffee available for free to guests in the rec room, which is a nice place to relax."

Wildlife encounters: Animal sightings create memorable experiences at most parks near Wharton. Jim P. reports at Stephen F. Austin State Park: "While we were there we saw an abundance of deer and bunnies, plus we were able to listen in on a conversation between a very large owl who had taken up residence in one of the trees by our site."

Entertainment options: Many campgrounds provide scheduled activities. Ethan B. notes about Eric and Jays RV Resort, "We had live music and food trucks available. Will most definitely stay here again."

    What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Summer heat requires planning for pets and people alike. Joseph P. notes about Brazos Bend State Park Campground, "If you go in the summer you need to watch out for mosquitoes. The observatory is amazing on clear nights."

Road construction impacts: Highway projects can affect travel routes. Napunani warns, "Due to Interstate 10 construction, the eastbound exit for San Felipe is closed so the navigation system took us further East and then backtracked on some horrible condition rural roads."

Campsite selection tips: Sites vary widely in shade coverage and proximity to facilities. Mark M. advises about Stephen F. Austin, "Only spent a night here, but it was VERY quiet, completely dead-flat level site, with electric (30 amp). Beware of fire ants."

Reservation planning: Dog friendly campgrounds near Wharton often fill quickly, especially during mild weather months. Jules S. recommends planning ahead: "Staying here as a pass through for a few nights. VERY clean campground. Very happy with the tidiness and keep up of it."

    Tips for camping with families

Seek shorter trails for young children: Eric and Jays RV Resort provides family-friendly paths. Brittany S. shares from a nearby park, "We decided to do a bit of hiking with the kids and this place was perfect for a family trip. The trails were beautiful and easy to get through (marked well) with all of us."

Look for water features: Water activities provide cooling entertainment. Charlene C. reports about El Campo, "Amazing pool! Fantastic place to camp with or without kids. Very clean, adding new kids water activities all the time."

Consider shower access: Bathroom proximity matters with children. Andrew C. notes about Stephen F. Austin, "We stopped for one night on our way to El Campo. We will be back for a weekend to further enjoy."

Plan morning activities: Schedule outdoor time before peak heat. Geoffrey G. shares, "Family vacation last weekend and had a great time. Love the pool, lazy river and especially the swim up bar."

    Tips from RVers

Satellite reception considerations: Tree coverage affects connectivity. Jules S. notes, "My starlink is a little spotty with the trees but am still able to work remote with no major issues."

Site dimensions matter: Larger rigs need appropriate spaces. James R. from 60 North RV Park reports, "Full hookups with 30 amps. Semi circle drive thru that fit my 44 ft motorhome and towed Jeep."

Utility hookups vary: Not all pet-friendly campgrounds near Wharton offer the same connections. Red S. explains, "I had 5G network with T-Mobile and good TV reception."

Level sites save setup time: Many campers note the importance of level pads. Kartik K. shares about 60 North RV Park, "After reaching there I see their ground was green and was also providing free cable but we didn't took that as our goal was to spend time with family."
