This RV park is right off the main thoroughfare, next to the local Walmart. There is even a path to the Walmart parking lot at the edge of the park.
Wifi was down for our one night visit, due to severe weather that knocked out a wire/cable in town.
Sites are mostly grass. We got a pull through for our visit. Sites are a mix of long-term stays and overnight stays. Our picnic table was apparently a shared resource, as it was used by the site next door residents in front of our RV.
There is a small pool, but we did not use it. There is also a playground on site and a pet area.
Full hook ups no facilities but good price for overnight passing through.
One night stay passing through, 34 ft fiver. Friendly folks that show you to your spot. good Wi-Fi (rare). right next to a super wal-mart, less than 5 min walk, which is very handy. Large and clean bath / shower house. Pool. Lots of Long term folks here. The drive needs work, huge potholes, go slow for more than 1 reason. Highly recommended.
It was 105 degrees F and this campground was an oasis in the west Texas desert. A little green grass in the campground and some shade trees too, along with a pool.
I arrived after closing. Check in was easy. Just picked up a packet outside the office and chose an empty spot. Nice and level and had a shade tree too. Full hook-ups and a quiet night's sleep. I didn't hear the train over my AC. Very pleasant. Great management. Clean facilities. I'd definitely stay here again when I pass through this way next time.
Stopped in just for night. We arrived after dark and everyone was respecting the quiet hours. Our site was mostly level after a little adjusting. The bath house was very clean, wifi was strong and all the hookups worked great! Unfortunately their office was unexpectedly closed with no notice or sign on the door. After talking with the maintenance guy I learned that the owners were gone for the week for Christmas. While it was a minor inconvenience for me, I'm glad that the owners were able to be with their loved ones during this holiday season and still run a great RV park. Will definitely stay again if we're in the area, and hopefully be able to check out their shop next time!
This is an excellent overnight type campground in Quanah, TX! It has pull-through gravel sites with full hookups and great internet service for an excellent price! ($30 per night). There is no shade (typical of the whole region), but a great dog park and great service. The owner left us excellent instructions for after-hour arrival and even included a great magnet to remember them for next time we are headed through the area.
Good park lots of hiking, boating, wildlife, Nice spots, some have full hookups and some don’t,I’d go back
Had a 2 night stay on our cross country trip and it was perfect. The campsites were well spaced, level, clean, and easy hook ups (no septic though). We took advantage of the trails and did a 7 mile hike on the moderate level. Low level military jets occasional during the day was the only faint noise, but it's ok … they are always welcomed! The night was lite by the full moon so we could not see the stars well, but still … beautifully quite. The museum gave a great history of the area and we learned a lot. This was our first time with a Texas park and it was great! Thanks Texas!
We really enjoyed our stay at Copper Breaks State Park! The campsite was level and had 30/50 amp service with water hookups. The also had dump stations. The is a small lake in the park with boating and swimming areas. The had numerous trails. In the height of summer it is very hot so be prepared if you hike any of the trails. They also had an equestrian area. This park is in a dark sky designated area so the view if the night sky is spectacular! The restrooms/showers are very basic and about average for the Texas state parks that I have stayed at.
I really liked the shelters that they built at each of the sites in the Comanche camping area. They are built for maximum shade but with plenty of airflow for cooling. They also look kind of cool. We saw a lot of wildlife (birds and small mammals) in the area.
This park was turned back over to the state in 2020 and is exactly how I remembered it from the 80’s. Tucked down in southwest Oklahoma in the Wichita Mountains, it’s a small park but has LOTS of options. There are RV and tent Campgrounds, cabins, a very modern lodge with 96 rooms, group pavilions, and a dormitory. There’s a full restaurant, ORV trails, hiking trails, a river and a lake. Something for everyone.
We stayed in the Mountain View campground which has concrete pads and didn’t have to level our rig at all. Electric and water and steps to the flush bathroom that has a shower in it. It backs up to the lake berm and has a view of one of the mountains. Not much cover but we didn’t need it as it was cloudy during our stay. LOTS of stickers. Beware especially if you have long haired dogs.
I was on a trip from East Texas to Colorado and back in my Overland Ford Maverick and needed one last camping spot to carry me over on the trip back to East Texas and found this little gem of a spot!
It's not the most accommodating for those who aren't prepared (no bathrooms or showers), but the most beautiful things are usually quite basic. I had terrible weather, so I couldn't really put out the Roofnest, but I slept in the truck as best I could.
The view when I woke up was dazzling! This spot would be amazing for a family in an RV.
Management is super nice and they were inviting to someone without an RV, so major kuddoes!
I love this park! The staff is great and it is very well maintained. The bathhouse is clean. No shade at the RV sites, but each site has a picnic table with a teepee shade structure over it as well as a raised grill. Lots of space between campsites. Our electric/water site #6 in Comanche Campground was long enough to leave our rig hooked up and was easy to back in to.
Unfortunately, I was not able to do any hiking this trip. It was 100 degrees when we arrived and didn’t ‘cool off’ to 85 until 9pm. The trails looked great and I’d love to come back in the late fall or winter and stay a few days to explore. Our AT&T hotspot was able to stream a movie.
Where this park really shines is after the sun goes down. Copper Breaks is an International Dark Sky Park. We were so lucky to have clear skies on our one night stay! I stayed up early into the morning to try my hand at night sky pics and got my first Milky Way picture.
We camped here in May 2019 in the tent camping area right on the river, just below the dam. There is no electricity for the tent sites. There is water, but not at every tent site. Each tent site had a picnic table, fire ring and grill. This campsite caters to RV's and it looks like several of the RV's live there year round. There is a store. We were the only ones camping in the tent area until our last day, we stayed 3 nights. There is a bathroom (no shower) at one end. Other bathrooms in the campground have showers. We drove to the bathroom by the store and took a shower one day. Even though we were the only tent campers, there was an extreme amount of traffic on the road. The area had record amounts of rain and all the gates on the dam were open which had not happened in 20 years. So, there were a lot of locals that came to see it. We climbed Quartz Mountain on the first day. There is not a well marked trail, you just have to try and find the path of least resistance and not die. The view is well worth the hike (hiking shoes are a must, lots of slick rock). You can see all the surrounding mountains, the dam, the lake, etc. from the top. There are many hiking trails, not very many bike trails. There is a paved bike trail, but it's not very long. We did use our bikes to ride around the campground and up on top of the dam. Tent sites are $10/night. If you're looking for a campground with lots of amenities, this is a good one.
Owners are very friendly and helpful. Sites are level and roomy. Easy in and out.
We only stopped here for a quick stay so I can’t give a complete review of the facilities but they had pull through sites that were level and clean. The train is close so you will hear it at night but it didn’t bother us. The customer service was great! Great quick stop on our way back to N.M.
We came on the hottest days so far this year (I believe 105 to 108 were some temps recorded) and the water levels were low but we still had fun with feeding the Longhorns as well as morning and evening hikes. Definitely not packed campgrounds and wildlife was plentiful Staff was amazingly nice and very inviting
Campgrounds are modern with electricity, water, tables, and facilities nearby. The park is subject to being under a burn ban for a significant portion of the year. I forgot my shoes (this sounds crazy but it happens when you pack for five people and a dog), I really recommend having shoes at this campground. There are a lot of biting bugs and the trails are not easy to hike in flip flops. Trails are listed as being accessible for mountain biking, however they are not necessarily maintained for mountain biking. There is also a swimming area which makes the kids very happy.
Copper breaks is acknowledged as an International Dark Sky Park meaning that stargazing is spectacular. Kids can also catch fireflies, which are abundant in the evening and after dark.
First stop on this tour from Dallas TX to New Mexico and back
I had choosen this place out of location ,it has a walmart in walking distance.
We got delayed from start of pickup our RV and got here a lot later then we had intended, so I wrote the owner a message and she answered rapid how to find it and where to find our paperwork.
We found the spot and got settled and went into bathrooms that was the most clean bathroom I have ever seen in a campground.
Slept a good night sleep and had some things we needed to fix on the RV rental and here the owner is very happy and good to help out and had the parts we needed.
And then we was off again
This place was conveniently located with shopping and restaurants in walking distance but far enough from the road to avoid traffic noise. Owners were very sweet and efficient. Park itself is basic with few trees. Mostly grass and gravel at the site. Pool, horseshoes, playground and dog area, as well as a well stocked inventory of RV supplies. They had propane and even came to our site to pick up . Bathhouse was older but clean. Nearby Italian restaurant was awesome and inexpensive.
The Rolling Plains has been home to my family for a long long time and it’s always wonderful to be back. Copper Breaks is a beautiful, wild place perfectly managed by Texas Parks and Wildlife. A light touch all around with simple, compact campgrounds to keep a small footprint on the terrain. This is a place where campsites are best used to live out of... not in.
TPW has done a great job keeping light to a minimum. If you don’t like the dark or need a bunch of exterior lights on your camper, please choose another site. There are no street lamps, no canopy lights and thankfully most campers respect the dark here and keep the blinds pulled and exterior lights off. Still... bring your red flashlights and take a hike to see the best views.
The trails are great day or night. Winter or summer. Use your feet, horse or your MTB to explore the backcountry and there is even primitive camping on some of the trials. Beware of snakes and although they are very rare, I would keep your little ones in sight as cats are very very occasionally seen in the Rolling Plains.
The little museum is great and I don’t just say that because my great grandfather’s photo hangs there.
The tent sites are decently spaced and occupy the low areas to serve as wind blocks. The Comanche RV site sits up on a ridge with a greater than 180 degree view of the night sky.
This brings us to why you should really be here. Though the trails are beautiful and the terrain rough and untamed... it’s the skies that draw people here. With the Comanche Springs observatory just around the corner and the dark sky designation... the views here in the after hours are simply astounding. Stars, planets, satellites and shooting stars galore. Set your calendar for the next new moon and head out west for a show you won’t forget.
I was passing through town on my way to Fort Worth Texas and wasn’t disappointed!
Awesome hosts! Clean park! Definitely come again.
This camp ground was one of the most quiet Texas State Parks I've been to so far. There are so many open spaces to see the stars at night.
We stayed here twice in 2020 and now again last night. The owners keep making it better. There's a laundry house with shower rooms, all well done. We my be back again at the end of this trip! Very clean everywhere.
All services worked, did not try WiFi Well manicured lawns and trees Large pull-through
Check it out!
This Park is Adorable and really Country like!! We loved Our Stay!! Would stay here Again for sure. The Pool is Great. Hope to meet the Staff sometime :) Sorry if we left before meeting you Awesome People!!
This park and it’s owners are amazing! Lush, open and inviting. Large spots with picnic tables for big rigs. Laundry and bathrooms near a small swimming pool. Wait until you see inside the old Cotton gin. You’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Small store with cats, dogs and great conversation. Worth staying as many nights as you can! The train goes by and whistles several times during the night, like a country lullaby.
