Ole Town Cotton Gin RV Park

Very quiet, very clean with a grand view of the stars.

Stopped in just for night. We arrived after dark and everyone was respecting the quiet hours. Our site was mostly level after a little adjusting. The bath house was very clean, wifi was strong and all the hookups worked great! Unfortunately their office was unexpectedly closed with no notice or sign on the door. After talking with the maintenance guy I learned that the owners were gone for the week for Christmas. While it was a minor inconvenience for me, I'm glad that the owners were able to be with their loved ones during this holiday season and still run a great RV park. Will definitely stay again if we're in the area, and hopefully be able to check out their shop next time!

Ole Town Cotton Gin RV Park

    Best TX Park By Far

This park and it’s owners are amazing! Lush, open and inviting. Large spots with picnic tables for big rigs. Laundry and bathrooms near a small swimming pool. Wait until you see inside the old Cotton gin. You’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Small store with cats, dogs and great conversation. Worth staying as many nights as you can! The train goes by and whistles several times during the night, like a country lullaby.

    Quartz Mountain State Park Campground

Back in business! Great State Park!

This park was turned back over to the state in 2020 and is exactly how I remembered it from the 80’s. Tucked down in southwest Oklahoma in the Wichita Mountains, it’s a small park but has LOTS of options. There are RV and tent Campgrounds, cabins, a very modern lodge with 96 rooms, group pavilions, and a dormitory. There’s a full restaurant, ORV trails, hiking trails, a river and a lake. Something for everyone.

We stayed in the Mountain View campground which has concrete pads and didn’t have to level our rig at all. Electric and water and steps to the flush bathroom that has a shower in it. It backs up to the lake berm and has a view of one of the mountains. Not much cover but we didn’t need it as it was cloudy during our stay. LOTS of stickers. Beware especially if you have long haired dogs.

Ole Town Cotton Gin RV Park

    Good 1-night Stop Off

A nice place for a one night stop off. Nothing fancy. Owners are super nice. They offer military discount. They have a chicken coop and sell fresh eggs for $3/dozen. They have a small swimming pool. The old cotton gin on site is a cool feature. It was full of dusty furnishings. Looks like they used it as a venue in the past. The back row of the park appears to be full timers. Be prepared to hear trains blasting their horns all night long.

Ole Town Cotton Gin RV Park

    Oasis on TX Route 287

It was 105 degrees F and this campground was an oasis in the west Texas desert. A little green grass in the campground and some shade trees too, along with a pool.

I arrived after closing. Check in was easy. Just picked up a packet outside the office and chose an empty spot. Nice and level and had a shade tree too. Full hook-ups and a quiet night's sleep. I didn't hear the train over my AC. Very pleasant. Great management. Clean facilities. I'd definitely stay here again when I pass through this way next time.

Super easy registration, check in. Great WiFi and nice amenities. We had a huge end spot with great access to everything. On our path to the coast and I’d definitely stop here again.

Guide to Quanah

Cabin camping near Quanah, Texas provides accommodations in an area characterized by rolling plains and prairie landscapes at approximately 1,500 feet elevation. The region experiences hot summers with temperatures regularly exceeding 95°F and mild winters where overnight temperatures can drop below freezing. Cabin rentals in this region typically require advance booking, particularly during hunting seasons when availability becomes limited.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: At Quartz Mountain State Park Campground, visitors can fish in Lake Altus-Lugert which contains catfish, bass, and crappie. A camper noted, "There's a full restaurant, ORV trails, hiking trails, a river and a lake. Something for everyone."

Mountain exploration: The granite peaks at Quartz Mountain State Park Campground offer hiking trails with varying difficulty levels. One visitor mentioned, "We stayed in the Mountain View campground which has concrete pads and didn't have to level our rig at all. Electric and water and steps to the flush bathroom that has a shower in it."

Hunting excursions: White's Creek Hunting Lodge provides guided hunting trips during season for quail, turkey, and deer. The property maintains designated hunting areas separate from cabin accommodations for safety.

What campers like

Updated facilities: The bathhouses at Quartz Mountain State Park Campground have been renovated in recent years. According to a camper, "A well maintained park lots of shaded sites, picnic tables are the best."

Privacy options: Cabin positioning at White's Creek Hunting Lodge offers separation between units, allowing for quieter stays during non-hunting seasons.

Weather-resilient sites: The concrete pads at many sites in Quartz Mountain provide stability during rain events that can otherwise create muddy conditions in the region's clay-rich soil.

What you should know

Pet policies: Cabin accommodations have varying pet regulations. While pets are permitted at Quartz Mountain, they face challenges with the local environment. One camper warned, "LOTS of stickers. Beware especially if you have long haired dogs."

Seasonal considerations: Summer temperatures regularly exceed 95°F, making cabins with electricity for air conditioning essential from June through August. Spring and fall offer milder temperatures between 60-80°F.

Reservation requirements: Most cabin facilities require bookings 2-4 weeks in advance during peak periods (March-May and September-November). Winter reservations typically require less lead time except around holidays.

Tips for camping with families

Activity planning: Quartz Mountain offers family-friendly amenities beyond standard camping. A reviewer shared, "There are RV and tent Campgrounds, cabins, a very modern lodge with 96 rooms, group pavilions, and a dormitory."

Supply considerations: The market at Quartz Mountain provides basic necessities, but selection is limited. Families should bring specialty items, particularly dietary-specific foods, from larger towns before arrival.

Weather preparation: Cabins provide shelter, but outdoor activities require planning around weather patterns. Summer thunderstorms typically occur in late afternoon, making morning activities more reliable.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: Though this guide focuses on cabins, RVers who also use cabins note the importance of location. A camper at Quartz Mountain mentioned, "It backs up to the lake berm and has a view of one of the mountains. Not much cover but we didn't need it as it was cloudy during our stay."

Utilities awareness: When transitioning between RV camping and cabin stays, note that cabin electric capacity may differ from campground hookups. Kitchen appliances in cabins may be limited compared to fully-equipped RVs.
