Several RV parks operate near Newton, Texas, with varying amenities and site configurations. Merryville RV Park, located just across the Louisiana border, provides 14 RV sites with electric, water, and sewer connections. "Sites are paved, and all seem pretty sloped, so make sure you have levelers," noted one visitor about camping in the region. Country Club RV Resort accommodates both large and small motorhomes with 50-amp service, water, and sewer hookups, while Fin & Feather Resort includes RV sites with full hookups and is open year-round.

COE Sam Rayburn Reservoir San Augustine Park

Clean, quiet, spacious, and great lake views

1/26/23-1/30/23- This is a great COE campsite that is spacious, clean, quiet, and site#63 has lake views on 3 sides. A picnic table, fire-pit, lantern post, 30A electric, and water are provided. This is a back-in site that slopes significantly to the rear(lake side) though. I needed to lower the front of my 34’ fifth wheel trailer 16” to level it; L/R leveling was reasonable needing 1/2” on the right side. The grassy area around the site would be great for outdoor games and the water access would be great to fish from shore, boat access to the site, or swimming. The staff were very congenial and the dump station is conveniently located on the right side just before exiting the campground. Verizon 4G was 4-bars with 20Mbps download and 2Mbps upload speeds. I paid$13/night with my Interagency Senior Pass. Too bad that it was rainy most of the weekend and we didn’t have nicer weather.

South Toledo Bend State Park Campground

    ALMOST PERFECT

This was my first time at this beautiful state park. I will definitely come back! 3 days was not long enough to do everything! Our camper site was #46. It had a very large well kept wooden deck with a picnic table. The camper pad was long and concrete. It was slightly uneven, we used 3 blocks to level it off..There was also a large sand pad if you preferred a tent. A firepit was also there. Many of the other sites also had decks, with the same things available. It had water and electricity, a dump station, and very clean shower/restrooms . Also available were primitive camping sites with amazing views. Oh, did I mention that our site had a very short walk to a dock overlooking the beautiful lake. This dock had room for four boats! There are beautiful biking, and hiking trails, both concrete and dirt. Several play areas for the kids! There was a beach and swimming area, a nature center,, and playgrounds. The camp hosts were amazing and very helpful. The park was super clean, family and pet friendly, and a great price at 28 dollars a night. Happy camping!!

    Alligator Parish Park Campground

    Clean and quiet

Stayed one night in 30 ft travel trailer (May 2,2022) and we were the only campers. There were other visitors/fisherman but quiet and peaceful. Restrooms clean and spacious. Shower was separate and locked but host would unlock as needed. All 7 pads are gravel, level, elevated above grass—helpful after hard rain— and would accommodate large rigs. Lake or old river course 100 plus feet from campsites. May bring kayaks next time. Road access is good and signs to guide you. One bar cell service. Each site has sewer but not conveniently located—near entrance to site and would require very long hose or require rigs to block access road when dumping This park happened to be along our route to another campground and not along major highway. Nice place to relax overnight or for few days.

    DATES: year round

    SITES: 41 to reserve, 39 have water/electric

    FEES: $10.00-$45.00

    LIMIT: 14 days

Group day use facilities with shelter, boat ramp, dump station, gate house, camp host, flush toilets, playground, covered picnic table, accessibility, pull throughs, fish cleaning table, pedestal grill This campground is the best COE campground that we have visited. It is very well maintained and extremely large. Sites are very nicely spaced out. The cons: fire ants, deer flies, and mosquitoes. Pros: Well maintained, beautiful, peaceful, fishing, boating, trails. Love site 36 There is a free fishing pond for the exclusive use of children and individuals with special needs. It is stocked with catfish and rainbow trout. There are even trophy largemouth bass released in the pond by local fishermen. If you catch "the big one" please practice "catch and release" so someone else might enjoy. There are four well marked trails that meander through old growth hardwood forest. You will see huge southern magnolia and American beech trees. The trails are color coded and there is a very nice map available from the gate house.

This COE campground should be a benchmark for all other COE campgrounds. We will return.

    Vinton RV Park

Easy to Access, Great for Overnight Stop or Long Term

Only $375/mo for Long Term, All Utilities Included, Free Wi-Fi and Free Laundry!

We were heading back to Texas after Spring Break and needed a quiet, easy stop for the night. Vinton RV Park ended up being a perfect fit for our family. It’s right off I-10, super easy to find and book, and felt peaceful the moment we pulled in. At first, we had looked at a few other parks online that looked a bit more“luxury” in the photos, but when we got here, we were honestly surprised—in a good way. The amenity center here is actually really nice and has more of a resort feel than some of the other places nearby. Our boys had a blast riding their bikes around the park. It’s a big property, and we felt totally comfortable letting them run around since it’s well off the main road. There's even a gate at the entrance, which adds an extra layer of peace of mind(it was open when we arrived, but I imagine it gets closed later on). All in all, it was a great family-friendly stop, and we’ll definitely keep it on our list for future trips.

    Village Creek State Park Campground

    Maiden Voyage

Our first stop in the maiden voyage of our travel trailer and this park was good and kind to us. Beautiful, level pull-thru sites with plenty of space from others, shade and sun and within walking distance to bathhouse and swim beach. Mosquitoes abound and there is no cell signal or wi-fi. Prepare to drive 20 minutes to grocery.

    Village Creek State Park Campground

    Clean, well maintained

25 standard RV sites with water & electric. $16, plus some walkin tent sites. Arrived on a Monday night with no reservation; no problem getting a nice site (#19). The young lady checking us in was very nice & helpful. The campground was clean & well maintained. The restroom/shower house was exceptionally clean. Most sites appear to be close to each other, but trees & shrubbery between sites provided some privacy. Sites were also narrow, but long. Enough room for a camper & tent. A few big rigs had difficulty with backing into a site. Pretty state park. Includes a hiking trail. Good AT&T & T-Mobile cell service.

    Indian Mounds Recreation Area

    Quiet place to camp

Indian Mounds Campground is located in East Texas near the Texas-Louisiana border in the Sabine National Forest. It is a quiet and peaceful location to camp.

RV and tent campsites come with a fire ring, a picnic table, and potable water. Good views of the lake and situated in forest area. Nearby hiking, biking, swimming, and fishing. Not many campers in campground and that made for a great stay!

Guide to Newton

Newton area campground options include several full-hookup RV sites with varying site conditions and amenities. Most parks accommodate larger RVs with 50-amp electrical service. Whispering Creek Lodging & RV Park offers both RV sites and cabin accommodations along Highway 190 East. Merryville RV Park provides 14 RV sites just across the Louisiana border, while Country Club RV Resort includes additional recreational amenities beyond standard RV services. Fin & Feather Resort combines RV camping with lake access and marina facilities.

What to do

Boating and fishing access: Fin & Feather Resort provides direct lake access with boat launches and marina facilities. According to a camper, "The resort has cabins and rooms for rent, a marina with boat launches, a nice little store, and a great restaurant with good eats." This location allows for convenient water recreation without leaving the campground property.

Music and entertainment: Triple Creek RV Music Park offers a unique camping experience centered around bluegrass music. "They have plenty of full hookups available. Pavilions and buildings for gathering to enjoy jam sessions, whether playing or listening. Kids love dancing to the music," reports one visitor. The park regularly hosts music events and provides spaces specifically designed for musical gatherings.

Nearby outdoor exploration: RV parks in this region provide access to multiple outdoor recreation areas. Brandon notes that Fin & Feather Resort is positioned well for regional exploration: "Stayed here for a nice long break to explore the area. The RV campground was small but enjoyable." From many Newton area campgrounds, Toledo Bend Lake and Sam Rayburn Reservoir are accessible for day trips.

What campers like

Convenience for military families: Several RV sites near Newton, Texas serve as extended-stay locations for military personnel. Pecan Acres RV Park provides practical accommodations for those connected to nearby Fort Polk. One reviewer noted, "If you were passing through the area, or needed to be near the base, this would be a good place to stop for a day or two."

On-site amenities: Country Club RV Resort includes recreational facilities beyond basic hookups. "RV park has a pool, playground, driving range, laundry, hook ups, walking trails... Nice store on site with ice, wood and misc," reports Erin. These added facilities make longer stays more comfortable for campers wanting diversions without leaving the grounds.

Dining options: Some campgrounds include on-site food service, eliminating the need for cooking. One camper at Fin & Feather Resort specifically mentioned "a great restaurant with good eats" as part of what made their stay enjoyable. Having dining options within walking distance adds convenience for campers tired from outdoor activities.

What you should know

Road conditions: Access roads to some campgrounds may present challenges, particularly after rain. A reviewer at Triple Creek RV Music Park cautions, "The 2.5 mile old logging dirt road to get there was very nasty but doable. It had rained like 4 inches the night before." Another visitor adds, "The road is mostly dirt and sugar sand and is extremely rough. I would call it minimally maintained."

Site leveling requirements: Site grading varies significantly between campgrounds and even within the same park. As one Country Club RV Resort camper notes, "Lots of ant piles thought." At Triple Creek RV Music Park, a visitor advises, "Bring lots of leveling blocks." RVers should prepare with adequate leveling equipment.

Long-term residents: Several RV parks near Newton function partially as semi-permanent housing. One camper observed at Shady Lake RV Park, "Some RVs had dug in their sewer hoses for a more permanent living arrangement. There were other clues that verified some were living here very long term." This creates a different atmosphere than typical vacation-oriented campgrounds.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly entertainment: Some campgrounds offer activities specifically appealing to children. At Triple Creek RV Music Park, a visitor observed that "Kids love dancing to the music" during jam sessions. Scheduled or impromptu music performances provide entertainment options that the whole family can enjoy together.

Swimming options: Country Club RV Resort includes a pool that offers controlled swimming for families with children. The benefit of campground pools is their convenience compared to natural water bodies. Families should confirm operating hours as pools may close seasonally or have limited hours during weekdays.

Playground access: Country Club RV Resort provides playground equipment for children. According to Erin, the "RV park has a pool, playground, driving range, laundry, hook ups, walking trails." Having on-site play structures allows children to burn energy without parents needing to travel to separate recreation areas.

Tips from RVers

Late arrival planning: Arriving after office hours requires advance coordination. One RVer at Merryville RV Park suggests contacting management beforehand: "Jake from the Dyrt here! Enjoy the small town feel with full hookups." Without prior arrangements, late arrivals may encounter difficulties locating assigned sites or accessing facilities.

Hookup adapters: Having electrical adapters expands site options. A frustrated camper at Triple Creek noted, "I attempted to try and stay at site 81 but again, no 50amp service. If I had brought a 30 amp to 50 amp adapter then maybe I could have made it work." Carrying various adapter configurations prevents compatibility issues.

Cell connectivity: Internet access varies significantly between parks. One Triple Creek visitor mentioned, "Wifi available, too," though quality and reliability aren't specified. For remote workers or those needing consistent connectivity, asking about specific carrier coverage before booking helps avoid communication problems during the stay.
