    Spring Lake RV Resort

    Nice and quiet little campground.

64 full hook-up with 30 and 50 amp electric on the sites. Site 1 only had a 30 amp and was the smallest in the campground. They had wifi and cable TV that was available. Sites were fairly level. I had to use 2 yellow flat blocks on site 1. Restrooms and showers were closed due to Covid-19 restrictions. We were told they were full but several sites remained empty during our stay. Would have liked to have had a lake side site or a larger level site. Owners were friendly as well as the guests. I believe they had some full-time living there too. I would go back.

    Spring Lake RV Resort

Our favorite RV park this trip

We were on an sudden, urgent trip with minimal pre-planning and no reservations. We contacted Spring Lake an hour before arrival and they were super helpful, providing a level overnight pull-through site reservation. We were arriving an hour after the office closed and they made arrangements to help us get settled. We were so appreciative of the consideration. Overall we felt the amenities and the setting were the nicest of this 1200 mile trip. Pretty, very well maintained. Level sites with picnic table and convenient hook-ups. The sites are built around a small lake. I suspect most of the leases are long-term. Friendly manager and friendly residents. We walked around the lake and found they had sitting areas and gazebos where you could relax during the day or at night. A couple of miles off the interstate so no road noise and very quiet at night. You can pick up fast food dinner on the way to the park.

Melton Hill Dam Campground — Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA)

    Beautiful and peaceful

The campsite sits right beside the Tennessee river. There are 9 full hookup sites and many of the rest have power and water. Large river swimming area. Most sites are level with concrete tables, fire pits and grills. Bathrooms are clean and adequate. Bathrooms in the day use area are less so. Store is small with snacks, ice, drinks and ice cream. Staff very nice and RV’ers themselves. Family friendly. Pull through dump site. Love Truck Stop at entrance to I-40. $ rate and honors America Pass.

    Cumberland Mountain State Park Campground

Great for RVs, Ok for Tents

This campground is located within the Cumberland Mountain State Park. The sites are set up for RVs and it is very popular.

Pros: There is no camp store, but there are vending machines available. There are restrooms available. Staff is in the office during business hours. There are 2 short hiking trails (less than 1 mile in length each). There are playgrounds, a lake for fishing, and a golf course. Each site has parking for 1 vehicle, a large gravel pad, water and electric hookup, picnic table, and lantern hook.

Cons: site are very close together. Tents and RVs do not have separate loops. No camp store. No showers.

Overall, this campground is set up to cater more toward those with RVs than people camping in tents.

Pickett CCC Memorial State Park Campground

    OMG! O

We stayed for a few days and as a backpacker, the local hikes are some of the best I have ever seen! I would say most of the hikes are moderate, although some say easy. Grandma couldn’t leisurely walk, or scale some of the trails, so you have been warned. But for able bodied persons, the hikes are all doable. There are quite the variety of hike lengths to choose from, from short and squatty, to full day hikes. I’ll submit some of my favorite shots below. For RVs - I was towing a 21 ft trailer and my site at the bottom of the hill, which was away from other campers, but the grade was ridiculous! I had 6” of block height to level side to side! I heard other complaints from other longer tongue pullers as well, regarding the difficulty getting into their sites. Most of the sites are small, too close to other campers, or too close to the smell of the privies. But if you are hiking the area, I think the stay could be worth some of the hassle. There is a pull through dump station on the loop. There is electric and water. Tent campers - probably have plenty of room to spread out, some with power hookups and the convenience of showers at a central bathhouse. Daytime picnics - a beautifully large area to choose from and see. Lots of selections, all of them very well social distanced, family friendly and shaded with trees. Soooo much to see.

    Patrick’s Point River Camp

    A great little getaway spot!

We will absolutely be back! I’ll be honest, as a visibly queer person with rainbow hair I was a bit nervous about the Bible verses and Christian flag due to past experiences, but Patrick and Angelica were welcoming and friendly the entire time!

The RV spot with shade was great! It’s right next to the bathroom but everyone is spread out enough it wasn’t an issue at all.

Strong WiFi, pet friendly, and a beautiful, peaceful spot with very friendly owners!

Guide to Wartburg

Wartburg, Tennessee sits at the edge of the Cumberland Plateau, where elevations range from 1,200 to 1,700 feet above sea level. The region experiences seasonal temperature shifts with summer highs averaging in the mid-80s and winter lows occasionally dropping below freezing. Camping facilities near Wartburg vary from established RV sites with full hookups to more primitive options for tent campers, with several parks remaining accessible year-round despite seasonal weather changes.

What to do

Offroad adventures: Access to Windrock Park offers direct trail connections from Windrock Gap Campground & RV Park. "Just a short distance from Windrock. RV sites have power and water, but are very close together, in my opinion. There are also a few tent sites and cabins. Parking for off-road vehicle trailers. Firewood and ice available at the office," notes Steve V.

Fishing: Shoreline and boat access available at lakeside campgrounds within 30 minutes of Wartburg. At Southlake RV Park, "If you are wanting to fish the bank or even put in kayaks this spot is money. The tent sights are located right on a great fishing cove on Fort Loudon reserve," according to Nate H.

Historic sites: Visit Rugby historic village less than a mile from Brooks Corner Campground. "It is right behind the Brooks store and less than a mile from Rugby. Both the store and town are a step back in history. Star view on a clear night is awesome due to the lack of nearby city lights," says Jason K.

What campers like

Well-maintained bathhouses: Several campgrounds near Wartburg prioritize clean facilities. "The bathrooms are spectacular and sparkling clean. They have a hand built fireplace under a large overhang near the office. Great space for grilling or hanging out," writes Jessica D. about Paradise on the Mountain RV Park.

Lake views and water access: Waterfront camping locations provide recreational opportunities. "We were next to the lake and enjoyed the view. There was a close bath house, but they still had it closed for winter so it was a little drive to the other side of the lake to the other one," notes Jason K. about his stay at Deer Run RV Resort.

Dog-friendly amenities: Many rv sites near Wartburg, Tennessee accommodate pets with dedicated areas. "There is a great dog trail and a fenced dog run. Close to the interstate, but not too noisy," mentions Jason W. from Paradise on the Mountain RV Park, which remains accessible for stays of varying lengths.

What you should know

Cellular connectivity issues: Service varies significantly around Wartburg and surrounding areas. At Southlake RV Park, one camper noted: "Cell Data signal isn't great here either. I have a dual LTE router that I was only getting ATT 3G signal with normal antennas but once I connected the exterior antenna I had been waiting to install I got 4 bars ATT LTE."

Road conditions to campgrounds: Mountain access requires careful navigation. When visiting Royal Blue RV Park, one camper warns that sites can be challenging: "It's uphill all the way... Where we parked which was 9 is not. It's uphill and was very difficult to level out the rv."

Campground occupancy patterns: Some RV parks near Wartburg maintain a mix of transient and permanent residents. "Very tightly packed and about 90% or more full timers. Only one small bathhouse and tiny laundry room for over 300 spaces," notes a camper about Caney Creek RV Resort & Marina.

Tips for camping with families

Playground amenities: Paradise on the Mountain offers dedicated children's areas. "There is an adorable playground for the kids. Rumor says there is possibly a splash pad coming soon," shares Jessica D., noting the family-friendly atmosphere at this campground near Wartburg.

Swimming options: Look for campgrounds with pools for summer visits. At Caney Creek RV Resort & Marina, Josh S. highlights family amenities: "Out door pool with a kids pool, Play ground, Basketball, Corn hole, Horse shoe, Bath house, Everything is well keep and very clean."

Supply access considerations: Campgrounds near Wartburg can be remote from services. "This is very rural so see recommendations for distances to nearest places... Propane is available for 20lbs swap-outs at the local Dollar Trees(Jamestown or near Eglin/Robbins both are~20m away)," advises Josh J. about Brooks Corner Campground.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling requirements: Campground terrain varies significantly in this region. One RVer at Royal Blue RV Park advised: "We had to level it by sight as I guess we now need to purchase a small level for these situations. It's still not level. They have a pressure regulator on the water so showering was like a spit bath."

Pull-through site availability: For easier RV parking at campsites near Wartburg. "Caney Creek is right off the highway and offers a lot to do. We only passed through the area but wished we were staying there for longer. The pull through sections are very large to easily accommodate rig plus TV," notes Jeremy D.

Overnight transit options: Several RV sites near Wartburg function well for travelers passing through. "We were on an sudden, urgent trip with minimal pre-planning and no reservations. We contacted Spring Lake an hour before arrival and they were super helpful, providing a level overnight pull-through site reservation," explains Sara M. about her experience.
