CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Several RV parks dot the region surrounding Stillhouse Hollow Lake, Tennessee, offering varied options for motorhome travelers. Owl Hollow Retreat RV Park provides big-rig friendly sites with electric, water, and sewer hookups in a peaceful setting. Nearby, Shady Acres RV Park operates year-round with full hookup sites including 50-amp service, on-site sanitary dump, and accommodations specifically designed for RVs. Maple Hill RV Park & Cabins features 26 sites with both 30 and 50-amp electrical options, drinking water, and sewer connections. Paradise on the Mountain RV Park stands out with 100 spacious sites that include full hookups and accommodate larger rigs. Seasonal considerations affect RV camping availability throughout the region. Summer months see higher occupancy rates, making advance reservations essential for securing preferred sites. Cell service varies significantly between parks, with Verizon showing 1-3 bars in most locations. Most RV campgrounds in the area welcome pets, though specific restrictions may apply. Dump stations are available at multiple locations, with some parks offering full sewer hookups at individual sites. Navigation to certain RV parks requires careful planning, as some access roads feature tight turns or steep grades that challenge larger motorhomes. Propane refill services can be found within reasonable driving distance of most parks, though availability should be confirmed before arrival. Winter camping remains an option at several year-round facilities, though some amenities like swimming pools typically close during colder months.

    Edgar Evins State Park Campground

    GlamperGirl

This is my favorite place to camp. If you have furbabies you will love it. All campsites except the primitive are huge decks. Electric, water, grill, fire ring, picnic table and canopy of trees. Bathrooms are always clean. Showers have hot water fast. Fire wood is all around in the woods. Kayaking is great! Put in below Center Hill dam. 6 mile run of clear cold water! Stocked with trout. I don't fish but if you do, you will need a trout stamp. If you don't own kayaks there is a store called Big Rock Market. You can contact them and they will set you up with kayaks and they drop off and pick you up. So, back to the campground. Dog friendly, clean, 30 and 50 amp.,coin laundry at the camp store. Dump station and trash. Playground for children, view of the lake from most sites. Marina where you can rent boats. I just can't say enough about this awesome place. Friendly staff. I actually just stopped the ranger driving by to ask him a few questions. I am at site 9 this time. Usually 25. Some have inclines or declines. 9 has a slight decline 25 is flat. When you go to the map and click on a site it will tell you. Like site 23 is right next to a bathroom, but it has a steep incline. So pay attention to that when booking. There are hiking trails and wildlife. The woodpeckers start about 6:00 am. LOL! I have not seen a snake in the camping area. Just deer and birds.

    Shady Acres RV Park

    Shady Acres campground, Lebanon Tn

This is a perfect spot for passing through town. We are in our way to North Carolina from Mississippi. My husband made this reservation over the phone with a really trusting kind person. They double checked the availability because they were almost totally full. It was a pull through spot close to the bathrooms. We were able to use just electrical hook up for the night to rest. It’s a few minutes off I-40 and lots of gas options close by. It’s only minutes from Nashville downtown. This is a family owned business with a permanent house in the front. Looked like there were some long term rental people here. If it were summer months there is a pool up front. We will add this to our list for location and price!

    Cedar Creek (TN)

    Beautiful and well maintained

RV pads are in great shape. All of them are level and come with a fire pit, nice picnic table, and an extra wooden table for tabletop grills or whatever else you want to use them for. Bathrooms are good enough. It looks like most or all sites have a view of the water. The shoreline is clean and the grass is mowed everywhere.

The listing here says there are sewer hookups. I don’t see them at any of the sites, so I’m assuming there is a dump station. We only stayed one night passing through, so we didn’t mess with any of that. I also saw something that only listed 50 amp hookup. My spot also has a 30 amp hookup in case you need that and don’t have the dog bone.

Barren River Lake State Resort Park Campground

    Okay Campground

    Full Time travelers.

Our stay here was October 20-27/2021 in site 22A.

We didn't know this before arriving, but the weekend we were there, it was one of their biggest weekends of the year with Halloween festivities.  We joined in with the pumpkin carving and costume contests. They also had a contest for decorations on campers.  All winners received an award sheet in a plastic frame.

This campground is fairly decent, with great views of the river/lake at some sites.  Only one section has full hookups, sites 1-9.

Our site was mostly level, however, a lot of the sites (excluding full hookup sites) were very unlevel.  The pull through sites are hills.  So, be prepared for that.

The grounds were okay.  Lots of trash from the weekend before us was still lying around.  The bathhouse closest to our site was decent.  One big issue I found with the restrooms was on the day most people left that weekend (on Sunday).  I went in to the restroom and the smell made me gag.  I had to leave and come back later to even use the facility.  The reason for the smell...the dump station is directly behind the bathhouse.  With everyone dumping at the same time, the odors flooded the restrooms.  It was horrid.

The firepits in our area were awkwardly situated, the one for our site was up on the hill under a tree and on the site beside us, the firepit was right next to our site under a tree.  A fire hazard being under trees and awkward for guests beside us to have to be all but on our site to use theirs.

The staff were friendly and kind.  Timothy is one of the staff that works around the grounds, he's a very hard worker and always polite anytime we interacted with him.  He was even very helpful to the other staff.  I want to recognize him for his hard work and dedication to his job.

Overall this was an okay stay, but I would steer away from this campground if you aren't particularly skilled at leveling your rig and you can't get one of the more level sites.  The most level sites are 1-23.

    Davy Crockett Campground

    Nice place to camp

Premium site, fairly level, back in with crushed stone. Nice morning sun & afternoon shade. 50 amp with excellent voltage. Super nice wood deck/patio at the back of the site. Nice but small store with pretty good prices. Nice playground for the kids. The pool looked pretty good though we didnt use it. Also they have an older style, hot tub in a separate building, it looked very clean and well maintained. We were very happy with our stay. It was quiet, and staff & other campers were very friendly. We will stay here again in the future.

    Defeated Creek Campground

    Camp by the water

COE-Campground. I love this campground, but hate the reservation system. Problem seeing sites booked, and the party no shows leaving a great site unavailable. Very frustrating. This reason knocks it down a couple notch’s on rating system.
Otherwise this is one of the best campgrounds in Tennessee. Beautiful lake views with rolling hills. Phone, TV, Satellite maybe unavailable on some sites. Campground does offers full hook- up, however some sites do not have sewer or 50 amp. Great for families! Kayaking and fishing and also beach for swimming. Picnic table and fire ring at all the sites. Book early!

    The Narrows

    Fishing

    The Narrows

The Narrows at Barren River Resort Park , Kentucky is a nice, well maintained campground. If you are a fisher person this is a campground for you. Within walking distance of the Marina, nice shaded sites and room to spread out. A cool feature in the sites is a fish cleaning table as well as fire ring and picnic table. Another nice feature is the campground is off the main road to the marina. Unfortunately there aren’t any hiking trails , however bike riding in the campground is an option and there’s an interesting sunken basketball court.

Guide to Stillhouse Hollow Lake

RV campgrounds near Stillhouse Hollow Lake provide convenient access points to Tennessee's regional attractions. The area sits at the foothills of the Cumberland Plateau, with elevations ranging from 600-1200 feet. Weather conditions can shift rapidly, particularly during spring and fall, when temperature swings of 30+ degrees within 24 hours aren't uncommon. Several campgrounds offer sites designed specifically for recreational vehicles with varying levels of privacy between sites.

What to do

Kayaking access points: Visitors staying at Owl Hollow Retreat RV Park appreciate the multiple water access locations. "Several places to put our kayaks in the water near here," notes one camper, highlighting the convenience for paddlers looking to explore local waterways without lengthy transportation.

Hiking nearby trails: The proximity to multiple natural areas provides day hiking opportunities within short driving distance. Many trails offer moderate terrain suitable for most fitness levels, with routes ranging from 1-5 miles. Spring wildflower displays peak in April and May.

Local farm connections: Some RV parks in the region maintain connections with local agriculture. Campers at Owl Hollow mention unique amenities: "Fresh farm eggs too!" This reflects the rural character of the surrounding communities where agricultural traditions remain active.

What campers like

Private bathroom facilities: Paradise on the Mountain RV Park receives consistent praise for its shower facilities. "The bathhouse is amazing!! I've stayed at many campgrounds and I think this is the cleanest bathhouse I've ever seen," reports one visitor, highlighting a feature particularly important during extended stays.

Dog-friendly amenities: Many campers traveling with pets appreciate dedicated pet areas. "There is a great dog trail and a fenced dog run," notes a visitor about Paradise on the Mountain, allowing pets safe off-leash exercise areas after long travel days.

Well-maintained common areas: Old Chimney RV Park offers reliable connectivity throughout its grounds. "FHU and good WiFi throughout the grounds," mentions one reviewer, noting the consistent service that remains functional even during busy periods or inclement weather.

What you should know

Site leveling requirements: Campsite topography varies significantly between parks and even within the same facility. At Paradise on the Mountain, one camper notes: "Only poor thing I can say is that the spots are not level," indicating guests should come prepared with leveling blocks or other equipment.

Water quality concerns: Water systems at some campgrounds may contain mineral deposits or other issues. At Maple Hill RV Park & Cabins, a visitor reported: "We didn't notice this the first day, but I started seeing brownish water in our toilet," suggesting campers might consider additional filtration for drinking water.

Laundry facilities access: When planning extended stays, note that laundry access varies between facilities. One camper at Tree Tops RV Park mentions: "Laundry room has a four-digit security code to get in," indicating restricted but available facilities for guests.

Tips for camping with families

Playground availability: Paradise on the Mountain RV Park offers dedicated children's facilities. "There is an adorable playground for the kids. Rumor says there is possibly a splash pad coming soon," notes one family, providing entertainment options during downtime at camp.

Green space considerations: Some campgrounds charge premium rates for sites with access to common areas. At Maple Hill, one visitor cautions: "There's an option to choose a large green space site, so we paid the extra fee for that and it turns out, it's just a site that is situated across from a green space that is available for all guests to use."

Nearby attractions timing: Family-friendly activities in the region have seasonal operating hours. During summer months (June-August), water recreation areas typically open from 9am-7pm, while spring and fall hours may be limited to 10am-5pm on weekends only.
