    Rvino - The Broken Banjo

    Relaxing but small spaces

Pros: The staff are all incredibly friendly. We loved interacting with them (especially Eric!) during our stay. The laundry and bathrooms are very clean and spacious. The staff will come around and collect your trash for you (which isn’t necessary but a nice plus!) The location is directly off the highway and close to stores if you need a late night run for anything. The dog park was cute and offered a lot of extras. The heated pool was nicely taken care of and would be fantastic for the summer season. The camp store had lots of necessities and cute decor plus a dvd rental library and a pizza place onsite!

Cons: There was a massive cell phone tower within walking distance from our RV. Literally on the property of the RV park behind their utility shed and next to the playground. The highway traffic is quite loud. The campsites are very close together! The playground and fun type amenities in the back of the park weren’t kept up very well it seemed. A lot of the stuff was missing or broken.

    Nashville Shores Lakeside Resort

    Fun, clean, quiet

This campground was very convenient for those visiting the Nashville area, its just off the highway and they offer shuttles for a fee to downtown and opryland. The check in process was quick and simple, the staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. Our campsite was easy to find and very clean. The shower house was one of the best I've seen mostly because it is air conditioned. The showers are all very private and clean with plenty of room. The waterpark is just steps away, I would suggest not eating food within the park it is over priced and not very tasty, go to the marina restaurant or eat at your campsite. They have a dog park to exercise your dogs and you can't beat the views. I would recommend this campground.

    Love this place

I stayed in spot 8 during the Coronavirus lockdown. The staff is very friendly. It’s near I-24 which makes getting places easy. It will be noisy if you are sound sensitive. It is well maintained. The laundry room is great. You can get anything you need from the store. Perfect pull through sites for a big rig overnight stop. Great sites with picnic table, fire pits for longer stays. Nice pool, sparkling clean restrooms. The dogs loved the dog park. The amenities for kids are great. Highly recommend.

    Four Corners Resort and Marina

    Lakefront camping at its best!

Four Corners RV resort is a fantastic find just 21 miles South of Nashville. We paid a weekly rate of $879 including taxes and fees for a back in waterfront site. We have fantastic water views from both sides of the coach. The pads are all concrete, wide sites, include a fire ring and picnic table. They have several fishing and boating docks. They have a dog park and a swimming beach with dog bath upon exiting the beach. They also have a nice adult pool and a large kiddie pool. They have a lot of Canadian Geese which are fun to watch but leave their droppings everywhere. The campground is very dog friendly with a lot of dog litter bags and trash cans throughout the campground. This campground is a great staging place for visiting numerous sites in Nashville. We like this campground and really have enjoyed the water views, we recommend this campground and will be back.

    Nashville Shores Lakeside Resort

    Awesome for families

This place is great! There is a lake with all sorts of water craft to rent. There is a high water park as part of the complex (separate fee). All sites have full hookups including cable. All roads are paved. All sites are level. There is even a dog park so your 4 legged family members can run free too.

    Nicer than before

We have stopped here several times in the past when it was a KOA. The new owners have fixed it up. The roads are still gravel but in better shape, the pads are nicer, and there is more room between sites. 30/50 amp electric, water & sewer. Lots of trees, there is a big dog park. The pool was closed when we were there. Bathrooms and showers were nice, but dated. Tent sites, cabins. Lots of road noise!

    Whispering Oaks Campground

    Just okay

Pros: staff is very nice and responsive. Large field and playground for the kiddos. Swimming pool looked nice. Hookups worked just fine. All sites are shady with trees

Cons: the sites are super close together. So close that the sewer connection from your neighbor is practically under your picnic table (gross). The bath house is old and grungy - needs renovating. People were mowing grass around their sites pretty much the entire time I was there, which wasn’t very peaceful. There was no dog park or anyplace to let the pups off leash. Seems like a lot of folks here are long-timers. Some need to clean up their sites. Bottom line, I would stay again, but just as a quick overnight stopover.

    Four Corners RV Resort

    Nashville’s best-kept secret

I’m hesitant to write this review because this is our new close-to-home GO-TO camping spot and we don’t want it to get booked up. 😆 It is new, quiet, and extremely well-priced. Our lakeside spot was $60 per night. Our other lake resort stays in this area have been at least double that! There is a gated entrance, which I like. The staff here is unbelievably welcoming and friendly. The crew is constantly working on cleaning, landscaping and maintenance. This morning they were raking the beach sand because it rained yesterday. There are plenty of pet waste stations and attractive (seriously)trash bins spaced throughout the park. The sites are concrete, level and roomy with full hookups (great water pressure!), new picnic tables and fire rings. There is not one bad location on the lakeside sites. Our personal faves are 69 thru 81...odds/lakefront. There is a swimming beach (see pic) as well as several relaxing spots, a playground, a bark park and a dog washing station (see pic!). There is a bath house, laundry (with 4 brand-new LG front loading washers), a gym (with a universal, an elliptical and a treadmill) and a small store. See pics! Bathhouse is spotless. It is attached to the marina (but the marina is situated on the far end)and they rent kayaks, paddle boards, and golf carts. There are three docks with kayak and jet ski slips. The view of Percy Priest is incredible and serene. I seriously can not recommend this place highly enough. ***They are going to be adding tiny houses, cabins and aqua houses (think Bali, but closer😉).

Guide to Pocahontas

Normandy Lake serves as a popular camping destination near Pocahontas, Tennessee, with its 3,220 acres of water surface and 73 miles of shoreline. Most campgrounds in the region sit at elevations between 800-1,200 feet, creating moderate temperatures that range from 40-85°F throughout the camping season. Winter camping often sees temperatures dropping to the 30s, with occasional light snowfall between December and February.

What to do

Waterfall hiking trails: Rock Island State Park Campground offers excellent waterfall access with varying difficulty levels. "I loved the hiking there. The campsite has a good website, letting you know exactly what you get. Have the option to go tent or RV. Beautiful surroundings," notes Aaron S. The park features multiple falls within hiking distance of campsites.

Kayaking on calm waters: Barton Springs Campground provides direct water access for paddlers. Michael T. from Cedar Point Campground reports: "Awesome sites right on the water, we brought our kayaks and were able to launch directly from the campsite. Lake is extremely quiet and calm."

Swimming options: During summer months, several campgrounds offer designated swimming areas. "The nearby swimming beach was great for the kids. Many short hiking options available," shares Christy E. about Rock Island State Park. Cedar Point also features "a decent swimming beach with sand" according to visitors.

What campers like

Level, shaded sites: Old Stone Fort State Archaeological Park receives consistent praise for site quality. Scott G. notes: "We love this place! The sites are level and there are plenty of shade trees to go around. Very quiet at night also. The showers are SUPER clean!!"

Secluded waterfront camping: Many campers appreciate the privacy of some waterfront sites. "If you plan to go camping here, pay a little extra & get waterfront. We had so much of our own space & could literally walk right out of our camper & go for a swim," recommends Mariah C. about Barton Springs.

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Fall Creek Falls State Park Campground offers abundant wildlife viewing. Shelly S. recalls their experience at Old Stone Fort: "We had deer in our site everyday... It was so quiet and woodsy."

What you should know

Site selection matters: At some campgrounds, site selection significantly impacts experience. One camper cautions about Fall Creek Falls: "Pay attention to grades of sites when booking, you might need extra supports to level out." Another notes that "some lower sites can become water logged if there's a good downpour."

Highway noise considerations: Manchester KOA (now Rvino - The Broken Banjo) sits near I-24. "This park is located in Manchester, TN right next to I-24, so if you are in the pull-throughs on the front row, you will hear the traffic," advises Scotty W., though he still rated it highly overall.

Variable cell reception: Connectivity varies widely between campgrounds. One camper at Barton Springs reports: "I also had no cell service in b loop. Enough for phone, but not really any other connectivity." Plan accordingly if you need reliable internet access during your stay.

Tips for camping with families

Multiple activity options: Smooth Rapids Campground combines camping with river recreation. One visitor shares: "Smooth Rapids is a kayak and tubing outfitter, so you can take a float down the river, and they have a shuttle that will drop you off." The campground also offers rental equipment for those without their own.

Kid-friendly water features: Several campgrounds feature shallow water access points. Brandie D. describes Fall Creek Falls: "The park itself has a scenic loop drive of the gorge, multiple waterfalls to visit, miles on end of hiking trails in which some cross rope bridges, awesome swimming holes, and even an olympic pool with diving boards and a snack shack for the kiddos."

Playground facilities: Whispering Oaks Campground provides dedicated play areas. "They have a nice place for the kids to play in the field with a play ground," notes Katie D. Similarly, other reviewers mention "large fields perfect for games and activities" at various campgrounds.

Tips from RVers

Electric hookup locations: Extension cords may be necessary at some sites. Michael T. advises: "If tent camping, the electric pole is a bit far, so be sure to bring extra long extension cords." This applies to several campgrounds in the region where utilities aren't always optimally placed.

Site size considerations: Larger RVs should research carefully. Jon S. cautions about Rock Island: "Fair warning, sites all seemed to be pretty small." For big rigs, Manchester KOA offers "level, pull through sites" according to Joel R., who calls it a "regular stop for our travels."

Accessibility challenges: Some campgrounds have steeper entrances. One RVer notes about Smooth Rapids: "The entrance and exit is very narrow and steep even for our Sprinter motorhome, let alone something larger. Would not advise it!" Always research road conditions before booking with larger vehicles.
