Best RV Parks & Resorts near Hilham, TN

Several RV parks near Hilham, Tennessee provide full hookup sites for motorhome travelers. Maple Hill RV Park & Cabins in Jamestown operates year-round with 26 sites offering electric, water, and sewer connections along with 50-amp service for larger rigs. McDermit RV Park features 15 spacious sites with full hookups and accommodates big rigs with level parking areas. Paradise on the Mountain RV Park in Crossville maintains 100 RV sites with both 30 and 50-amp electrical hookups on primarily gravel pads. "The RV sites are tight and cramped, although it was fairly easy to pull into the site for us as we have a smaller trailer. The sites in the front are far more level than the ones in the back."

Many RV parks in the region require advance reservations, particularly during fall and summer months when Dale Hollow Lake attracts visitors. Access roads to some campgrounds may present challenges with steep grades and tight turns, especially for larger motorhomes. Most facilities provide sanitary dump stations, though water quality varies between locations. According to one visitor at Edgar Evins State Park, "The RV camp sites are suspended in the air using steel columns and wood planks. It works well for our camper but the inclines on the roads are very steep. Think twice before you bring the big rig." Cell service tends to be unreliable at lakeside locations, with several reviews noting complete lack of connectivity at Lillydale Campground. Pet policies generally allow dogs with standard restrictions, and on-site amenities typically include bath houses, trash collection, and picnic tables.

    Spring Lake RV Resort

    Nice and quiet little campground.

64 full hook-up with 30 and 50 amp electric on the sites. Site 1 only had a 30 amp and was the smallest in the campground. They had wifi and cable TV that was available. Sites were fairly level. I had to use 2 yellow flat blocks on site 1. Restrooms and showers were closed due to Covid-19 restrictions. We were told they were full but several sites remained empty during our stay. Would have liked to have had a lake side site or a larger level site. Owners were friendly as well as the guests. I believe they had some full-time living there too. I would go back.

    Spring Lake RV Resort

Our favorite RV park this trip

We were on an sudden, urgent trip with minimal pre-planning and no reservations. We contacted Spring Lake an hour before arrival and they were super helpful, providing a level overnight pull-through site reservation. We were arriving an hour after the office closed and they made arrangements to help us get settled. We were so appreciative of the consideration. Overall we felt the amenities and the setting were the nicest of this 1200 mile trip. Pretty, very well maintained. Level sites with picnic table and convenient hook-ups. The sites are built around a small lake. I suspect most of the leases are long-term. Friendly manager and friendly residents. We walked around the lake and found they had sitting areas and gazebos where you could relax during the day or at night. A couple of miles off the interstate so no road noise and very quiet at night. You can pick up fast food dinner on the way to the park.

    Edgar Evins State Park Campground

    GlamperGirl

This is my favorite place to camp. If you have furbabies you will love it. All campsites except the primitive are huge decks. Electric, water, grill, fire ring, picnic table and canopy of trees. Bathrooms are always clean. Showers have hot water fast. Fire wood is all around in the woods. Kayaking is great! Put in below Center Hill dam. 6 mile run of clear cold water! Stocked with trout. I don't fish but if you do, you will need a trout stamp. If you don't own kayaks there is a store called Big Rock Market. You can contact them and they will set you up with kayaks and they drop off and pick you up. So, back to the campground. Dog friendly, clean, 30 and 50 amp.,coin laundry at the camp store. Dump station and trash. Playground for children, view of the lake from most sites. Marina where you can rent boats. I just can't say enough about this awesome place. Friendly staff. I actually just stopped the ranger driving by to ask him a few questions. I am at site 9 this time. Usually 25. Some have inclines or declines. 9 has a slight decline 25 is flat. When you go to the map and click on a site it will tell you. Like site 23 is right next to a bathroom, but it has a steep incline. So pay attention to that when booking. There are hiking trails and wildlife. The woodpeckers start about 6:00 am. LOL! I have not seen a snake in the camping area. Just deer and birds.

    Cumberland Mountain State Park Campground

Great for RVs, Ok for Tents

This campground is located within the Cumberland Mountain State Park. The sites are set up for RVs and it is very popular.

Pros: There is no camp store, but there are vending machines available. There are restrooms available. Staff is in the office during business hours. There are 2 short hiking trails (less than 1 mile in length each). There are playgrounds, a lake for fishing, and a golf course. Each site has parking for 1 vehicle, a large gravel pad, water and electric hookup, picnic table, and lantern hook.

Cons: site are very close together. Tents and RVs do not have separate loops. No camp store. No showers.

Overall, this campground is set up to cater more toward those with RVs than people camping in tents.

Pickett CCC Memorial State Park Campground

    OMG! O

We stayed for a few days and as a backpacker, the local hikes are some of the best I have ever seen! I would say most of the hikes are moderate, although some say easy. Grandma couldn’t leisurely walk, or scale some of the trails, so you have been warned. But for able bodied persons, the hikes are all doable. There are quite the variety of hike lengths to choose from, from short and squatty, to full day hikes. I’ll submit some of my favorite shots below. For RVs - I was towing a 21 ft trailer and my site at the bottom of the hill, which was away from other campers, but the grade was ridiculous! I had 6” of block height to level side to side! I heard other complaints from other longer tongue pullers as well, regarding the difficulty getting into their sites. Most of the sites are small, too close to other campers, or too close to the smell of the privies. But if you are hiking the area, I think the stay could be worth some of the hassle. There is a pull through dump station on the loop. There is electric and water. Tent campers - probably have plenty of room to spread out, some with power hookups and the convenience of showers at a central bathhouse. Daytime picnics - a beautifully large area to choose from and see. Lots of selections, all of them very well social distanced, family friendly and shaded with trees. Soooo much to see.

Barren River Lake State Resort Park Campground

    Okay Campground

    Full Time travelers.

Our stay here was October 20-27/2021 in site 22A.

We didn't know this before arriving, but the weekend we were there, it was one of their biggest weekends of the year with Halloween festivities.  We joined in with the pumpkin carving and costume contests. They also had a contest for decorations on campers.  All winners received an award sheet in a plastic frame.

This campground is fairly decent, with great views of the river/lake at some sites.  Only one section has full hookups, sites 1-9.

Our site was mostly level, however, a lot of the sites (excluding full hookup sites) were very unlevel.  The pull through sites are hills.  So, be prepared for that.

The grounds were okay.  Lots of trash from the weekend before us was still lying around.  The bathhouse closest to our site was decent.  One big issue I found with the restrooms was on the day most people left that weekend (on Sunday).  I went in to the restroom and the smell made me gag.  I had to leave and come back later to even use the facility.  The reason for the smell...the dump station is directly behind the bathhouse.  With everyone dumping at the same time, the odors flooded the restrooms.  It was horrid.

The firepits in our area were awkwardly situated, the one for our site was up on the hill under a tree and on the site beside us, the firepit was right next to our site under a tree.  A fire hazard being under trees and awkward for guests beside us to have to be all but on our site to use theirs.

The staff were friendly and kind.  Timothy is one of the staff that works around the grounds, he's a very hard worker and always polite anytime we interacted with him.  He was even very helpful to the other staff.  I want to recognize him for his hard work and dedication to his job.

Overall this was an okay stay, but I would steer away from this campground if you aren't particularly skilled at leveling your rig and you can't get one of the more level sites.  The most level sites are 1-23.

Bandy Creek Campground — Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area

Bandy Creek Campground at Big South Fork National River

Overall great campground. Family freindly, kept very clean, great hiking in Big South Fork w/some trails even starting at the campground.
Positives: Clean, friendly host, great campsites w/level pads, fire pits, lantern posts. Great location w/great and close access to lots of hiking and river activities. Negatives: discovered pool only open on Fri/Sat/Sun, no mention of this in advance. Same with Camp Store and it did not even open on Friday. No staff of hand to answer questions about site availability. Avoid pull-through sites 39 and 40; the share the same pull-through, and you will get blocked in if both end up being occupied. Do not arrive from the East (Oneida side) 13 degree inclines and declines with very sharp hairpin switchbacks. No problems arriving from West (through Jamestown), however you should avoid first entrance into the park, gravel road until you get to campground where it becomes paved, also steep at times with washboard curves that you will easily slide on. Second entrance, no issues. Lastly, many of the sites are short, so not all are big rig friendly. Pay attention to site details when booking a site

    Davy Crockett Campground

    Nice place to camp

Premium site, fairly level, back in with crushed stone. Nice morning sun & afternoon shade. 50 amp with excellent voltage. Super nice wood deck/patio at the back of the site. Nice but small store with pretty good prices. Nice playground for the kids. The pool looked pretty good though we didnt use it. Also they have an older style, hot tub in a separate building, it looked very clean and well maintained. We were very happy with our stay. It was quiet, and staff & other campers were very friendly. We will stay here again in the future.
