J Percy Priest Lake camping encompasses 14,200 acres of water surrounded by mixed hardwood forests. Located 10 miles east of Nashville, the lake offers year-round camping with temperatures ranging from winter lows around 30°F to summer highs in the 90s. Most campgrounds experience heavy bookings from May through September when water recreation becomes the primary attraction.
What to Do
Fishing opportunities: Four Corners RV Resort provides direct access to Percy Priest Lake's abundant bass, crappie, and catfish. "We spent a week on a Lakefront site with breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. Additionally, we were right next to one of the courtesy docks where our family members picked us up on their boat, enjoying the lake coves and scenery," notes one visitor.
Live music: Located 10 miles north of Nashville, Grand Ole RV Resort & Market offers nightly entertainment. "The entertainment for NYE was seriously the most fun we've had out in a while. Nothing says Nashville like live country music," reports a camper who stayed during the holidays.
Watersports rentals: Several marinas around the lake rent kayaks, paddleboards, and jet skis. "We enjoyed our stay and took full advantage of the lake. We paddle boarded, swam, and kayaked," mentions a reviewer from Elm Hill RV Resort.
What Campers Like
Level sites: Nashville North KOA provides well-maintained gravel sites throughout their 95-site facility. "Comfortable campsite. Adequate power and water pressure. Level gravel sites and bath house very clean. Busy campground but everything quietened down after 10 pm," notes a visitor.
Concrete pads: Many RV parks near J Percy Priest Lake feature concrete sites rather than gravel. "Check in was great and the front desk was incredibly helpful. Looking forward to spending more time here. Nice amenities," explains a visitor to Campers RV Park, which recently upgraded to wider pull-through sites.
Walking paths: Campgrounds around the lake maintain trails for exercise and pet walking. "The grounds were 'under construction' while we were there so there was occasionally some tractor/dozer noise. Some sites were unavailable due to them being revamped," notes one Campers RV Park visitor about ongoing improvements.
What You Should Know
Train noise: Several campgrounds near J Percy Priest Lake sit close to active rail lines. "This is a nice campground. Owners are kind operate a great general store. Live music every day and a nice rotating menu for breakfast and lunch. Clean laundry and bathrooms. Only downfall are the trains that operate 24/7 directly adjacent to the grounds," reports a visitor to Grand Ole RV Resort.
Highway proximity: Many RV parks sit close to highways for convenient access. "Sites are very close together. Not much room between my rv and neighbor. The website shows a creek but it's more of a storm water runoff. Noisy due to the highway that is very close," explains a Nashville North KOA reviewer.
Seasonal mosquitoes: The lake environment creates insect challenges during warmer months. "Pictures don't do it justice, there plenty of nature here to enjoy the outdoors! The only downside was MOSQUITOS! The first and last night we stayed the mosquitos were so bad we couldn't be outside," warns a Four Corners RV Resort visitor.
Tips for Camping with Families
Playground access: Nashville RV and Cabins Resort maintains family-friendly facilities. "Sites were large with awesome pool and play areas for kiddos," notes one visitor about their 480-site facility.
Beach swimming: Rather than just pool access, Four Corners RV Resort maintains a beach area. "There is a swimming beach as well as several relaxing spots, a playground, a bark park and a dog washing station," explains a visitor.
Entertainment options: Family activities vary widely between parks. "They have a laundry center, store, new playground, pool, dog play area (Kamp K9), checkers, ladderball, and shuffleboard," explains a Nashville North KOA visitor about available recreation options.
Tips from RVers
Site dimensions: Check exact measurements before booking. "Be very cautious of the site lengths. Some are extremely short and I'd say the measurements are nearly exact. Since our site backed up to a drop off, there was a small fence so no way to 'hang over' the pad a little for extra room," advises a visitor about Four Corners RV Resort.
Nashville shuttles: Some campgrounds offer transportation to downtown. "We used their shuttle service into Nashville. There is a lot of traffic noise, but that didn't bother us as it may others," mentions a Nashville North KOA visitor about their convenient shuttle option.
Delivery challenges: Rural locations can affect services. "Internet was down when we got here and cell signal is hit and miss on all 3 Carriers (Verizon, AT&T and T-mobile). Delivery of anything is challenging for the drivers for some reason," notes a Nashville North KOA visitor who experienced connectivity issues.
