    Weston Lake Recreation Area

    Nice sites!

Very nice concrete pads; large sites with fire pit, grill, and picnic table. Gravel roads have washed out areas but not terrible. Very open and quiet. Several long-term residents.

    Sesquicentennial State Park Campground

    We will be back!

Even though we had a few rainy days we could see the beauty of this park. Clean heated restrooms in Winter is a bonus. Lots of things to do for all ages. Helpful and friendly staff.

    Woodsmoke Family Campground

    Overnight Stop

Ok for overnight stop but wouldn't be a travel destination. Most sites seem to be long term or permanent sites. Very close to neighbor site, with fire pit being extremely close. Water, Sewer, Power, WiFi

    Chester State Park Campground

    Campsites and views, oh my!

First time staying at Chester State Park. Checked in at the Ranger’s station with friendly staff and a small store front with ice available. Picked pull through site 16. All 25 of the sites are on mostly level ground. The lake from the campground has a fairly new access via a ADA compliant walkway with lighting leading to swings, benches and Adirondack chairs surrounding a rock fire pit. There are benches facing the lake for sitting and or fishing and a new deck that provide even better views of the lake. The trails are well marked and wide that run along the lake edge. There is fishing, kayaks and canoes at the boat dock for rent and to our children’s disappointment no swimming in the lake. The other side of the park has the boat dock, playgrounds for the kiddos and plenty of grassy areas and picnic tables for sitting by the lake. Also there is a professional disc golf course on site. Last but not least the bathhouse is up to date, clean and well stocked.

    Sesquicentennial State Park Campground

    Needs improvements

Not a big rig friendly area. Our site was 30 amp, no sewer. I backed in the way I was told to and realized our water and electric were on the curb side. Had I known this ahead of time, I could have maybe pulled in another way. The service from another site was less than 3 feet from my power inlet to the camper. I called to make sure it would be ok to plug in there and they said no, even though no one used that site. The bathhouse was well below standards and really just unusable. I’ll pick another place if I’m ever in the area again.

    Aiken State Park Campground

    Amazing Find!

We stayed over on our way to Charleston, SC. We booked it online. We had no hookeups, but water and a dump station is available. There are hiking trails, canoeing, and fishing. The ranger was super friendly and they are pet friendly. We had to switch sites when we arrived due to a space issue. We have a 32’ RV and the site stated a max of 35’ but there was a tent pad that would have interfered with us being level. We were allowed to switch with no issues.

Military Park Shaw AFB Wateree Recreation Area and FamCamp

    Wateree Tent Camping

This was my family’s first time tent camping in the cold weather and it wasn’t that bad. The lakeside tent area provided beautiful scenery with access to restrooms and showers. It wasn’t too crowded as it was military members only and you can’t beat the price for a lakeside spot. We would definitely go tent camping here again!

Wateree Lake RV Park & Marina

    Better than I expected

This is a park on the East side of Lake Wateree. Not far off l-77. Has what you need. Full hookups picnic table and a fire pit. The owners are trying hard to improve the park. They have a security gate to keep passers by out. They have a nice deck near the boat ramp and have a little bar in the office. There are a lot of campers that stay there. I could tell the privet along and are friendly which is very important to us. I will Go back sometime. Also had better than average/strong Wi-Fi!

    Aiken State Park Campground

    Canoeing Getaway

It is a very small campground. Narrow winding dirt road to small campsites. Bathhouse in the center. Check out the site pictures on their website, they are accurate. We only have a 17 foot camper and it still felt small. We stayed on site 16 which was nice and quiet. Site 18 would have been easier to back in to with the same amount of privacy. We got there early and were able to go right to our site. There were only 4 other campers there and the hosts. The bathhouse was older and could have been cleaner but it was okay. Most importantly it was warm. Our first night it got down to 27 and the water at the hose bib froze but once the sun came up it was fine. Less than 30 minutes to downtown Aiken. We loved the town and it was very pet friendly. Hopelands Gardens was beautiful, free and pet friendly. Had some good beer at Aiken Brewing Company and enjoyed all the shops downtown. We did go into Augusta and that was another 30 minutes from downtown Aiken. We will definitely go back in the warmer months to see some steeplechase horse racing and training, canoe and kayak the Edisto River and go hiking in Hitchcock Woods. There are quite a few museums we did not get to that would be nice to visit as well. I would definitely go back.

Guide to Pomaria

RV campgrounds near Pomaria, South Carolina sit within the Midlands region, characterized by gently rolling hills and deciduous forest. The area experiences mild winters with occasional freezing temperatures and hot, humid summers where average July highs reach 90°F. Most RV parks in this region lack mature shade trees, requiring campers to use awnings and portable shade structures during summer months.

What to do

Fishing access points: Wateree Lake RV Park & Marina provides boat launch facilities for anglers seeking bass and catfish. "The beach area is super nice to spend a day on the water with your family," notes Jake, who appreciated the lakefront amenities.

Trail exploration: Broad River Campgound offers an extensive network of hiking paths behind the main camping area. As camper Will J. explains, "I don't think a lot of people knew the scope of how extensive the trail system was - but it was really pretty back there and we explored and found a lot of beautiful little places."

Swimming opportunities: While several parks restrict swimming, some private campgrounds do permit water recreation during summer months. Facilities typically close swimming areas between October and April due to cooler water temperatures and reduced staffing.

What campers like

Spacious layouts: Big Rig Friendly RV Resort receives praise for thoughtful site design. Nicole C. commented, "This place was well thought out when it was being built, lots of space, great level sites, nice dog park. Fitness center and laundry are new and nice."

Quiet surroundings: Most RV parks in the region maintain peaceful environments with reduced noise after 10 PM. Steven V. appreciated the tranquil setting at Broad River Campground, noting it's "Quiet and in the country. Management is awesome. Park is always clean, well cared for and quiet."

Shaded sites: Wateree Lake RV Park & Marina offers a choice between wooded or open sites. "This location has 2 RV lots. Riverside is heavily wooded which provides a ton of shade on the hot summer days. Taylor Creek is newer with less trees providing lots of open space and great for Solar regeneration," according to Chad L.

What you should know

Limited shopping options: Most campgrounds lack substantial on-site stores, requiring advance planning. When staying at Edmund RV Park, camper Cody K. observed it's "not weigh in much of amenities other than the bathhouse in the washer and dryer and Wi-Fi."

Bathroom availability: Facilities vary widely between parks, with some restricting bathroom access to long-term guests. Kim S. noted about Broad River Campground: "bathrooms were closed to overnight guests so didn't get to see them."

Site spacing concerns: Many parks position RV sites close together to maximize capacity. This arrangement can limit privacy between neighboring campers, particularly at peak times.

Tips for camping with families

Dog-friendly areas: Many parks provide designated pet areas for families traveling with dogs. Big Creek RV Park allows pets and offers both developed and primitive campsites. Ashley F. noted, "Offering full hook up sites or primitive sites, this property has something for everyone. You can paddle out to the main lake from this location."

Water recreation planning: Families should verify swimming policies before arrival. Not all locations permit water activities despite proximity to lakes. Wolf R. N. discovered at Moon Landing Campground: "No tent camping no fishing and no swimming. Why go?"

Meal preparation: Most sites lack picnic tables, requiring families to bring portable tables for outdoor dining. Pack accordingly with camp chairs, folding tables, and weather-appropriate cooking equipment.

Tips from RVers

Seasonal considerations: RV travelers recommend visiting between March and November for optimal camping weather. Winter campers should prepare for occasional freezing temperatures and potential water line issues.

Connectivity options: Internet access varies significantly between parks. Charles F. from Wateree Lake RV Park & Marina shared: "Also had better than average/strong Wi-Fi!" This contrasts with other parks where cellular data may be the only connection option.

Arrival timing: Big Rig Friendly RV Resort facilitates late check-ins for travelers. Lisa E. recounted, "We found this campground while traveling through Columbia SC and made a late evening reservation. We were able to reserve online and even pick our camping spot. We were able to find the spot easily even in the dark."
