Several RV parks near Gadsden accommodate large motorhomes with full hookup sites. Big Rig Friendly RV Resort offers spacious concrete pads with 50-amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections. Palmetto Shores RV Resort maintains year-round operations with pull-through RV sites and both 50-amp hookups and water access. Hill's Landing & RV Park provides 60 sites with 30-amp and 50-amp electrical options alongside sewer and water hookups. Access to most RV parks requires advance planning, particularly during college football season when availability becomes limited. Dump stations are available at multiple locations, including Wateree Lake RV Park & Marina and RV's Acres, though the latter has only 30-amp service. Cell coverage varies across the region, with better connectivity at parks closer to Columbia than at more remote locations. Pet policies generally allow dogs with standard restrictions, though specific parks may impose breed or size limitations. Propane service is limited at most parks, requiring travelers to fill tanks in nearby towns. Winter visitors should note that while water hookups remain operational year-round, some amenities like pools and outdoor recreation areas close seasonally.

    Weston Lake Recreation Area

    Nice sites!

Very nice concrete pads; large sites with fire pit, grill, and picnic table. Gravel roads have washed out areas but not terrible. Very open and quiet. Several long-term residents.

    Sesquicentennial State Park Campground

    We will be back!

Even though we had a few rainy days we could see the beauty of this park. Clean heated restrooms in Winter is a bonus. Lots of things to do for all ages. Helpful and friendly staff.

    Woodsmoke Family Campground

    Overnight Stop

Ok for overnight stop but wouldn't be a travel destination. Most sites seem to be long term or permanent sites. Very close to neighbor site, with fire pit being extremely close. Water, Sewer, Power, WiFi

    Sweetwater Lake Campground

    I love this place!

Sweetwater Lake Campground is a small RV campground. There is electric and water hookup and a dump station. Lots are decent size and fairly level on grass or gravel. The owners are very nice and available, if needed. Reservations are not taken, so you pull in and pick your spot. Drop your money in a lock box. The property has a nice size lake and all spots face it. There are fire pits and hammocks. The best and most fun part about this campground are the rescue donkeys. Their shelter and grazing area is situated directly behind the camper row. You can hear them bray and they will come to you and let you pet them, although, you should use caution as they warn you that donkeys bite. This is a very nice, quiet campground surrounded by private property of fields and lake. I really enjoyed our stay here!

    Sesquicentennial State Park Campground

    Needs improvements

Not a big rig friendly area. Our site was 30 amp, no sewer. I backed in the way I was told to and realized our water and electric were on the curb side. Had I known this ahead of time, I could have maybe pulled in another way. The service from another site was less than 3 feet from my power inlet to the camper. I called to make sure it would be ok to plug in there and they said no, even though no one used that site. The bathhouse was well below standards and really just unusable. I’ll pick another place if I’m ever in the area again.

    Aiken State Park Campground

    Amazing Find!

We stayed over on our way to Charleston, SC. We booked it online. We had no hookeups, but water and a dump station is available. There are hiking trails, canoeing, and fishing. The ranger was super friendly and they are pet friendly. We had to switch sites when we arrived due to a space issue. We have a 32’ RV and the site stated a max of 35’ but there was a tent pad that would have interfered with us being level. We were allowed to switch with no issues.

Cypress View Campground — Santee State Park

    Cypress View Campground

This is one of the two campgrounds at Santee State Park, and it is as different from the other as night and day. Unlike the dirt roads at Lakeshore Campground(the other campground in the park) the roads in Cypress View are paved. The sites are gravel, and many of them are pull-through sites. Although tent camping is allowed in Cypress View, I would feel out of place since most of the campers are RVs. However, our teardrop camper fits right in. Cypress View is a much smaller campground than Lakeshore Campground, but the amenities are the same. Every campsite is a short walk from the lake, and the campground is closer to the store than Lakeshore Campground. Unlike Lakeshore Campground, Cypress View Campground’s sites are much closer together, so there is not as much privacy. The campground is quiet, other than the noise from the highway.   That may be one reason to be in an RV or a travel trailer--to cut out some of the noise at night.

Close to the campground, there is a tennis court, a boat launch, Fisheagle Tours, a picnic shelter, kayak rentals, hiking trails, and more. It is conveniently located to most of the state park’s attractions without having to drive so far. Cypress View Campground is also close to the main office and the boat dock.

If you had rather stay in a cabin, there are cabin rentals on the water. They are accessed by way of a boardwalk across the water. The bath house is modern and has hot showers. It is centrally located so that it isn’t that far of a walk from any of the campsites.

Overall, I do recommend this campground, especially if you are in a travel trailer or an RV. If you are tent camper, you would probably better enjoy being at the other campground in the park.

Military Park Shaw AFB Wateree Recreation Area and FamCamp

    Wateree Tent Camping

This was my family’s first time tent camping in the cold weather and it wasn’t that bad. The lakeside tent area provided beautiful scenery with access to restrooms and showers. It wasn’t too crowded as it was military members only and you can’t beat the price for a lakeside spot. We would definitely go tent camping here again!

    Aiken State Park Campground

    Canoeing Getaway

It is a very small campground. Narrow winding dirt road to small campsites. Bathhouse in the center. Check out the site pictures on their website, they are accurate. We only have a 17 foot camper and it still felt small. We stayed on site 16 which was nice and quiet. Site 18 would have been easier to back in to with the same amount of privacy. We got there early and were able to go right to our site. There were only 4 other campers there and the hosts. The bathhouse was older and could have been cleaner but it was okay. Most importantly it was warm. Our first night it got down to 27 and the water at the hose bib froze but once the sun came up it was fine. Less than 30 minutes to downtown Aiken. We loved the town and it was very pet friendly. Hopelands Gardens was beautiful, free and pet friendly. Had some good beer at Aiken Brewing Company and enjoyed all the shops downtown. We did go into Augusta and that was another 30 minutes from downtown Aiken. We will definitely go back in the warmer months to see some steeplechase horse racing and training, canoe and kayak the Edisto River and go hiking in Hitchcock Woods. There are quite a few museums we did not get to that would be nice to visit as well. I would definitely go back.

Guide to Gadsden

RV sites near Gadsden, South Carolina typically offer seasonal access from March through November, with peak demand during college football weekends in autumn. Located between Lakes Marion and Moultrie in the central part of the state, many campgrounds feature riverside or lakeside settings. Water levels in local reservoirs fluctuate seasonally, affecting boat launch access at certain locations.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: The Diversion Canal connecting Lakes Marion and Moultrie provides excellent fishing spots near Hill's Landing & RV Park. "Located about 1.5 hour northwest of Charleston, you will find complete respite from the bustling developed world out here in these parts where there's plenty of hiking, fishing and boating to be had," notes Stuart K. The park includes a private dock and easy paved boat landing.

Blueberry picking: Seasonal fruit harvesting adds a unique activity option at Black Pearl Farms. "Fresh blueberries!" writes Robert G., who recommends visiting in May for prime picking. The farm's campsites are set in wooded areas behind the main agricultural operations.

Dog exercise areas: Multiple campgrounds provide dedicated pet spaces. "The dogs loved the dog park and I appreciated having bags to pick up after them," reports Douglas T. about his stay at Palmetto Shores RV Resort. Sites with open space allow pets to stretch their legs after long travel days.

What campers like

Spacious layouts: Campgrounds prioritize room between sites. "This RV Resort has the largest sites around," notes Bill M. about Big Rig Friendly RV Resort SC. "Beautiful large sites, mostly pull thru with pool, pickle ball courts, full gym, large clubhouse with meeting room."

Waterfront access: Riverside camping remains popular for its natural setting and activities. "Beautiful, well maintained site beside the Edisto river, just as advertised! Private, peaceful, just what we were looking for," writes John B. about his experience at Black Pearl Farms.

Wildlife viewing: Natural settings attract various animals. "The last time I was here (4 days ago) 2 does & a fawn came lopping/walking through the property," shares Mark B. about his stay at RV's Acres. Many sites preserve wooded areas that support local wildlife populations.

What you should know

Reservation systems: Online booking capabilities vary by location. "We were able to reserve online and even pick our camping spot," notes Lisa E. about her experience at Big Rig Friendly RV Resort. "The owner called to make sure we had no questions and to explain where to pick up our packet."

Power limitations: Electrical service differs across campgrounds. Wateree Lake RV Park & Marina offers full hookups, but camper Charles F. points out that they "have what you need. Full hookups picnic table and a fire pit." Smaller parks like RV's Acres provide only 30-amp service.

Construction status: Newer facilities may still be developing amenities. "It stated online that this was a new campground and much was still under construction so I wasn't expecting much but a place to hook up, man was I surprised!" writes John P. Some campgrounds prioritize completing site infrastructure before adding recreational facilities.

Tips for camping with families

Recreation options: Palmetto Shores RV Resort offers multiple family activities. "Palmetto shores has a nice outdoor activity area, a nice lake beach and a really nice pool and lazy River," shares Claire O. Families should check seasonal availability of water features.

Playground facilities: Several campgrounds maintain play areas for children. "They had a play ground, cabins, games. Just a very woodsy cozy place," notes Douglas T. about his family stay at Palmetto Shores RV Resort.

Noise considerations: Highway proximity affects some camping experiences. "Our sites were right next to the highway, I will say though we did tune the noise out the longer we stayed," advises Claire O., suggesting families select interior sites when possible.

Tips from RVers

Navigation challenges: GPS directions require verification. "CAUTION: The directions provided by The Dyrt to this location are incorrect," warns Kathleen R. about finding Black Pearl Farms. "It is not located on Sand Hill. So please use Google Maps to find the location or you will be down a long dirt road with no place to turn around."

Canadian visitors: Winter camping attracts international guests seeking warmer conditions. "We are from Nova Scotia Canada and were just astonished at how everyone treated use like a long lost friend had returned home," shares Rocky about Big Rig Friendly RV Resort SC. "The amenities were great and the temp was very comfortable."

Convenience access: Proximity to supplies matters for extended stays. Rocky notes at Big Rig Friendly RV Resort SC that "Fuel, groceries, beverages, service stations hardware stores and mini malls are just a 10 min drive away and for those who want home delivery of groceries they are phone call away for a very nominal price."
