Best Campgrounds near Greenwood, SC

The landscape surrounding Greenwood, South Carolina centers on lake-oriented camping experiences, with Lake Greenwood State Park serving as the primary destination for campers. Located in nearby Ninety Six, this state park offers year-round camping with both RV and tent sites, many positioned directly on the water. Within a 30-mile radius, additional options include Lake Greenwood Motorcoach Resort in Cross Hill for luxury RV camping, and the boat-access-only Goat Island for those seeking a more secluded experience. The region's camping infrastructure primarily caters to water recreation enthusiasts, with most campgrounds providing direct lake access for fishing, swimming, and boating activities.

Reservations are essential during summer months when lakeside sites fill quickly, particularly on holiday weekends. According to camper Mimi S., "Most sites are directly on the lake. We were 10 feet from our own swimming area. The water is clean to fish, swim, boat, kayak, jet ski." Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F with high humidity, making water access particularly valuable. Many campgrounds feature paved or gravel pads that can become uncomfortably hot for tent camping during peak summer months. Mosquitoes are prevalent near the water, especially in evening hours. Cell service varies throughout the region, with some campgrounds offering WiFi near central facilities but limited connectivity at individual sites.

Lakefront sites consistently receive the highest ratings from visitors, though site privacy varies considerably between campgrounds. At Lake Greenwood State Park, camper Matt G. noted, "The campsites are nearly on top of one another, but there are some beautiful spots right on the lake." Tent campers should be aware that many sites require pitching on gravel or pavement rather than soil. Bathhouse facilities throughout the region are generally clean but basic, with some campers reporting dated infrastructure. Wildlife sightings are common, with deer, owls, and various waterfowl frequently observed. Fishing is particularly popular, with largemouth bass, catfish, bream, and crappie among the common catches. A South Carolina fishing license is required at all locations.

Pine Acres Campground and RV Park

    Not a bad stay.

Spent three weeks here for my husband's work. Many full time renter's. My neighbors were wonderful people. The office manager, Tammy, was absolutely amazing! There was no openings at any campground in the area and she was able to work it out for us to be able to move in. They are working on adding a lower area for more sites. Sadly, there are no trees down there. The current sites are pretty close together. I would not be able to open my awning all the way if I wanted to. This is a great spot for someone here working and needs a place. Not really a family vacation spot. It is quite busy within the park, people coming and going a lot. It's off a very busy road, noise pollution is a factor. I came to the conclusion that the owner is pretty focused on adding the new sites (makes sense, that's how you afford upgrades). That being said, fixing VERY large potholes seems like something you could easily keep up with. You are able to receive mail here. They have a bathhouse/bathrooms, laundry room and dumpsters.

    Springfield - Hartwell Lake

    Gorgeous view

I believe every site is lake front. The view of the lake is amazing and perfect. Some sites have little beaches for access to the water. Others have rocks if you want to make your way down those. Mine had rocks covered with wire thats been cut or broken so wasn’t taking my chances there. This place is huge! There is no sewer at sites but water and electric up to 50amp

    Croft State Park Campground

    Outdoor adventure awaits

37 ft pull behind and we stayed at the upper campground (not the lakeside) close to the trail that takes you down to the creek for a swim. Lots of hiking and biking to be done which is always a great time.

    Dreher Island State Park Campground

    Needs Maintenance!

SC state parks must have shortage of $$ or employees. I know they upgraded to full hook up RV sites in the Fishermen camp recently, but maybe, a little thought could have gone into grading and leveling. SMH Also, it’s a Sunday and the grounds look like they haven’t been mowed in weeks. Camper across from us brought a lawn mower 🤷🏼‍♂️. See attached pics. Fire ring is 5’ from the camper. Positive - the lake view.

2nd SC park this year - SC DNR, do better.

Glamping on the farm - Highland Cows

My wife and I stayed a couple weeks ago and had a blast.   We arrived and immediately met Pebbles (My wife's favorite of the Highland cows).  She was the sweetest cow and allowed us to pet, take pictures with her and of course feed her.   We also spent some time with the other cows and loved the experience as we interacted with them and all of the other animals, including the new sheep that recently arrived.   The camp site was way more then expected.   Large tents on a platform, with  everything you need to camp and enjoy the campgrounds and pastures.   Full bathroom onsite, great ponds to enjoy.

    Calhoun Falls State Park Campground

    Great sites with lake views

This is a SC State Park located in Calhoun Falls, SC. A fishing campground - the vast majority of campers had boats. Sites are great / not on top of each other. Quiet. SC needs to up the maintenance on the park. Playground equipment and trails need immediate work. Bathhouses need upgrading.

    Fireside RV Park

    Clean and beautiful

The campsite is very well maintained. You often see the owner themselves doing a lot of the maintenance. Plus they check on people, see if everything is going good. The campsite only has laundry service, no additional bathrooms or showers. The Wi-Fi is ok, but it drops out a lot. The closest town is cute not very much to do but just enough. The main city Greenville isn’t very far and it’s a very nice downtown area. It’s a very nice campsite, highly recommended.
