Bear Run Campground and Rose Point Park Cabins & Camping welcome pets throughout their tent, RV, and cabin accommodations. Both campgrounds feature dedicated fenced dog park areas where pets can exercise off-leash. Bear Run Campground maintains 300 campsites with pets allowed on all sites, offering full hookups including electric, water, sewer, and fifty-amp service for RVers traveling with animals. Rose Point Park provides pet-friendly yurts and glamping options beyond standard camping accommodations. Campers note the dog park at Rose Point is fully paved, making it accessible regardless of weather conditions. Both locations provide fire rings, picnic tables, and trash collection, allowing pet owners to enjoy campfire experiences without leaving animals behind. Campground reviews consistently mention the pet-friendly staff and accommodating atmosphere for campers with dogs.

Hiking trails near both campgrounds allow leashed dogs, providing exercise opportunities beyond the designated dog parks. Most pet-friendly camping loops offer electric hookups, with Bear Run featuring pet-friendly sites with full-hookup capabilities. Campers with dogs frequently mention the convenience of designated pet waste stations throughout both properties. While most state parks in the region restrict pets to specific camping loops, these private campgrounds allow pets throughout their facilities. Large sites at both locations provide ample room for pet containment and exercise areas around individual campsites. The staff at Rose Point particularly receives positive mentions for their welcoming attitude toward pets of all sizes. Wildlife in the area includes deer and raccoons, so campers should maintain control of pets during early morning and evening hours when wildlife is most active.

Rose Point Park Cabins & Camping

      Family and pet friendly

OverLl great campground. The sites are a little close together but we still enjoyed our time there. Staff is super friendly and there was plenty for the kids to do, pool, arcade, fishing, and playground. Decent size dog park to let your dogs run and decent trails nearby.

      Goddard Park Vacationland Campground

      Near Beautiful Lake Wilhelm

Nice park with very friendly staff. My only complaint is the sites are way too crowded. Also a little uneven. I love that this park is close to Lake Wilhelm & Goddard State Park for fishing and bike riding. 2 pools and a dog park.

      Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

      Big, beautiful lake!

Great park! Sites are spacious and level. Very clean park. There are several full hook-up sites. Electric sites near the lake. We stayed at site #96. New Bathrooms are under construction. Campground is flat and great for bike riding. Nice playground for kids. Dog park nearby. Camp is near beach & marina. Also many shops and restaurants within a 10 minute drive. We will definitely be coming back to Mosquito Lake!

Jamestown Campground — Pymatuning State Park

      Great state park

Nice shower and bathrooms for a state park.

I didn't like that pets are not allowed in the non-pet area as that was where the playground and swimming beach was. Made it difficult to swim and play as a family since you can't leave dogs alone at the campsite. I wouldn't bring my dog next time to this campground. There are other more dog friendly places.

Very nice areas for walking, kayaking, swimming, and playground.

Rose Point Park Cabins & Camping

Amenity and Pet Friendly, but Where are the Kids?

Good location for outdoor and city experiences, along with a relaxing getaway. Workers and permanent campers are very friendly with all the amenities necessary on site, including nice dog park. A small campground that didn’t have many kids for ours to play with during our visit. In addition, hill keeps permanent campers separate from temporary campers.

      Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

      Great place!

The sites are huge. The dog park is amazing. Theres so much to do here. Swimming, boating, fishing. We love it. Only bad are no real bathrooms except at the front of the park. No place to wash dishes. Rough if you're tent camping. But we love the sites so much that we keep coming back.

      Raccoon Creek State Park Campground

      Pet friendly campsite, with electric

While most of the campgrounds in the park are no pets- there are 2 loops that allow your furry companions! Loop F includes electric spots! Loved seeing the 'neighbors' dogs get excited and curious when I walked my 4-legged best friend around the site. Clean area , close to a modern bathroom (a few stalls & even 2 showers!) Looking forward to going back at the end of the month.

      Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

      Great State Park Campground

We just got back from our first trip to Mosquito Lake State Park Campground. All in all, it was a great experience.

We stayed in site 67, which is a waterfront site, with electric. The water is about 25 yards from the pad, but is visible from the entire site. The site was spacious, but not as private as some of the others. There is some woods between this site and the sites on either side, but other sites are visible. The fire pits and picnic tables were staggered, so it created some distance to make it feel more private.

The campground as a whole, was very quiet. We stayed from Wednesday to Friday. The group next to us seemed a little rowdy when we first pulled in, but by 10:00 there was no noise anywhere near us.

Most sites seemed pretty level from side to side, but where we were, several had a slope from front to back. Away from the waterfront, most sites looked pretty level. The amount of space between sites varied from site to site. Some sites had woods on both sides, while others were pretty open. Some had nice large grassy areas, others were much smaller. Sites from 214-224 are in a cul de sac and are water front, but they were pretty close together with very little privacy between sites, if any. They are very close to the water though.

There are bathrooms and water scatter about, but from what I saw there was only 1 shower house.

Wal-mart and other shopping and restaurants were about 3 miles away. Park was easy to get to, only one turn for us off the highway. Lake was great for kayaking and paddleboarding. Very nice dog park in a different part of the park. There is a boat launch accessible from inside the campground.

Dump station has 2 lanes which was nice when checking out. Fresh water fill up was also located near the dump station.

    Guide to Portersville

Dispersed camping options near Portersville, Pennsylvania feature a mix of private and state park camping in the rolling hills of western Pennsylvania, approximately 40 miles north of Pittsburgh. The region sits at elevations between 1,200-1,400 feet and experiences four distinct seasons with humid summers and cold winters. Several campgrounds in the area provide specific accommodations for campers bringing dogs, with dedicated facilities beyond standard pet policies.

    What to do

Hiking in McConnells Mill State Park: Access trails directly from Breakneck Campground, which borders the state park. "From our campsite we walked along the creek into McConnells Mill State Park and joined the covered bridge trail. Approx. 30min walk along the creek down into McConnells Mill State Park," reports one camper.

Kayaking and boating: Lake Arthur at Moraine State Park offers multiple water activities. "Moraine state park is 3 minutes away with lake Aurther for sailing, canoeing, power boating, bike trails, frisbee golf coarse and swimming," notes a reviewer who stayed at a nearby campground.

Swimming options: Several campgrounds maintain swimming pools as alternatives to the lake. At Indian Brave Campground, "They have an Olympic sized swimming pool, nature trails, playground, basketball court, recreation hall and walking distance to harmony and all the live music and nightlife that Harmony and Zelienople have to offer."

Weekend activities: Check campground schedules for special events. The Mercer-Grove City KOA hosts weekend gatherings: "On Saturday morning, Amish people come in and sell their baked goods. A text reminder came from the office. They had canned goods, eggs, and baked items including 1 GF item."

    What campers like

Creek access campsites: The most sought-after sites often include water access. At Breakneck Campground, "We were lucky enough to be able to to camp down by the stream. There are designated fireplaces. It is quite a walk up the hill to the campground amenities, but worth it to feel secluded down by the creek."

Dog-friendly facilities: Many pet-friendly campgrounds near Portersville offer dedicated dog areas. Reviewers note that Rose Point Park Cabins & Camping has "a great dog park" with campers specifically mentioning that "they welcome fury friends!"

Privacy options: While some campgrounds feature open layouts, others provide more secluded experiences. "We picked one of two primitive sites next to a small creek. Apart from the campers above us on top of the hill, we were a few hundred feet from the other primitive sites. Despite being just a minutes walk from our truck, we felt incredibly secluded."

Staff responsiveness: Campground management receives consistent positive mentions. "The owners are awesome and come around to collect fees in the evening with kids and dogs in tow," writes one camper about Breakneck Campground, while another notes about Mercer-Grove City KOA that "The standout here was the staff. They were beyond customer service friendly."

    What you should know

Noise levels vary: Some campgrounds have more lively atmospheres than others. A Breakneck Campground reviewer cautioned: "Although cool, I'm glad we didn't reserve a scenic campsite. Those sites are very close to one another, where I could see noise being an issue for anyone that prefers the sounds of nature over their neighbors."
