Best RV Parks & Resorts near Plum, PA

Mountain Top Campground in Tarentum provides spacious RV sites with water and electric hookups. The campground sits atop a scenic ridge with 50-amp service available, though full hookups are limited. Pine Cove Beach Club RV Resort in Charleroi offers year-round access with full hookup sites including water, electric, and sewer connections. The Blue Canoe RV Resort features riverside camping from May through October with full hookup sites. Fox Den Acres Campground has pull-through sites with 50-amp service, making it suitable for larger rigs. "Very level, shade on the edges for either afternoon or morning so if you get shade for one you'll get sun for the other," noted one RV camper about the area's parking conditions.

Across the region, most RV parks accommodate big rigs, though navigation to mountaintop locations may require careful driving on narrow roads. Many campgrounds provide grey water disposal at sites, but black tank service varies—Mountain Top offers Wednesday pump-out service for $30 during extended stays. Self-service firewood and ice are commonly available at campground stores. Several parks feature seasonal amenities including swimming pools during summer months. According to one visitor, "The sites in the lower field were roomy and level and all pull-throughs," though this varies by campground and specific loop. Winter camping options are limited primarily to Pine Cove Beach Club and Mountain Top Campground, as many facilities close between October and April.

    Tomlinson Run State Park Campground

    Nice little State Park

Tomlinson Run is a small state park situated in the northern panhandle of West Virginia nestled between eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Plenty of things to do there including but not limited to…. Mini golf, hiking trails, biking, swimming, fishing, paddle boats, parks for the kids, and of course the camping. The campsites here are mainly gravel pads with the exception being the asphalt handicapped spots (2). Most spots are 30 amp with a few 50 amp (new for 2021). The park also has a few primitive spots available and some yurts and cabins to rent. I have a 38’ fifth wheel and the spots are tight for it (even the couple pull thru). Campground facilities are clean but dated. They state new facilities are coming soon. The campground is at the top of a hill and the spots are wooded and shaded. I would consider the camping to be spaced generously (room to stretch out). They have a small camp store and information available. A breakfast is available during peak season for a small fee. They do have water and a dump station available (free for campers to use).

    Bear Run Campground

    Loads to do...!

This campground is deceptively big! The nightly RV sites are close to the park entrance and are relatively flat. The campground hosts themed events, game nights and arts& crafts. There is a swimming pool and playground for the kids. It also has a small café that sells baked goods and coffee. On Saturdays they sell amazing Armish Donuts!

Further into the campground the sites turn to more permanent sites. Further up the hill are more cottages and camping. This campground is steep in parts and too large to walk efficiently. There is a fenced dog run area and a beautiful lake. All sites have fire rings. There is an onsite laundry, WIFI, onsite dump station and propane refill station.

You can also buy ice and firewood. The campground is gated. Lots to do at the campground and lots to do in the surrounding area. They welcome all furry friends!

    Raccoon Creek State Park Campground

    Raccoon Creek Camping

This is a large state park offering electric only sites

The sites are set amounts the forest and there are several loops to choose from. Loop F is pet friendly. All sites are within walking distance to amenities

Amenities are quite run down but functional

Wildlife is beautiful and its a short ~10min drive to the beach area of Raccoon Creek lake.

Two (2) dump station spots and fresh water taps location throughout the park

NOTE: Many sites are not level, you will require blocks/timber to level out campers. Tent campers should choose their site using the photos on the state park site.

All sites have a paved car space.

Kentuck Campground — Ohiopyle State Park

    Nice Pennsylvania State Park

Very large park with a variety of campsites ranging from tent, 20/30 amp, 50 amp, and yurts. Price is the same for all electric sites, regardless of amperage. There is a 40-foot maximum vehicle length allowed in the campground– not a problem for our 17-foot van but the staffer who checked us in remarked that many people come in with larger rigs trying to squeeze in and are unable to. We had no problem securing a site with no reservation on a Monday evening after Labor Day. Very close to two Frank Lloyd Wright properties– Kentuck Knob and the more widely known Falling Waters. Other things to do in or near the park include whitewater rafting, rail trail biking, hiking, zip-lining and touring Laurel Caverns. The nearby town of Ohiopyle has many outfitters and several restaurants. The sites are all located on roads leading off the main road; we stayed in a 20/30amp site on Cherry Road (Site 49). It was right next to the bathroom which was good and bad. Good for proximity but bad because we could hear the hum quite clearly. Also, the door to the women’s room would hit you in the rear quite forcefully unless you held onto it (it took me three times to remember to do this)! There was a dishwashing sink in the women’s room (and I’m assuming in the men’s room?); it was very clean, but the only downside was having to do the dishes by myself! Alcohol is prohibited. Only certain areas allow pets. Only one garbage/recycling station outside of the campground. Wood and ice are available 24/7 on the honor system– very nice not to have to wait until a host is on duty to get what you need. Quiet hours 9 pm-8 am, a bit longer than most campgrounds but except for some sites with campfires still burning with people talking, it was very quiet in this campground. Surprisingly strong cell signal for being deep in the woods.

    Tomlinson Run State Park Campground

    Very wooded campground

General: 50-site (all but six with electric hookups) campground plus two yurts and three cabins. Two sites are handicap accessible.

Site Quality: The sites have gravel pads (except the handicap-accessible ones which were paved). The sites were completely covered with leaves when we were there which made it challenging to determine where the actual (narrow) pad was. Sites appeared to be level. A fire ring and wooden picnic table complete the site.

Bathhouse: A little dated but clean. Two of the stall doors did not latch properly. Didn't use the shower so cannot comment but there was a sign indicating it took a while for the water to warm up.

Activities/Amenities: There is a small camper store, laundry, and a playground. In season, there is lake swimming and a boat dock. There is a fishing area, mini-golf and disc golf, and several short hiking trails. Unfortunately, since we arrived late afternoon and had to depart early the following day (and were camping off-season), we could not take advantage of any of these things. What we lose in activities, we gain in a quieter camping experience with fewer crowds, which is generally preferable for us!

    Kooser State Park Campground

    Great little campground

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here. We camped at site #15 and it was perfect. It fit our 34ft toy hauler without any issues. The park is beautiful and very well maintained. -Sites are spaced out. -Dog friendly. -$5 firewood bundles at the entrance. -Cleanest bathrooms/showers -Crystal clear stream with beautiful trail to the lake. Both stocked with fish. -Lots of picnic tables at the lake. -No formal check in. -Nice playground. -Easy access to dump site. -Kinda close to a main road so you do hear some traffic but nothing too bad. We will definitely be back! We love this area!

    Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA

    KOA - Monthly Stay

Camping in a 33 ft travel trailer with slides. Verizon service is great. Wifi in extended parking doesn’t work well. The staff are helpful and polite. We are in the extended stay part of the campground which is quiet and slightly more secluded than the other spots.

Guide to Plum

Campgrounds near Plum, Pennsylvania provide RV sites, tent camping, and cabins within 20 to 45 minutes of Pittsburgh. The region features rolling hills at elevations between 700-1,200 feet with mature hardwood forests. Most campgrounds remain open from April through October, though Mountain Top Campground and Pine Cove Beach Club RV Resort offer year-round camping options.

What to do

Swimming access: Benner's Meadow Run RV Campground maintains a clean pool and water activities for families. "Kids had a great time and lots of activities for them to do," notes one visitor who stayed with children.

Fishing opportunities: Ponds and lakes at several campgrounds stock fish for campers. At The Blue Canoe RV Resort, visitors enjoy riverside fishing. "Located on the Youghiogheny River. Many full hookups, great play ground for the kids," reports one camper.

Biking on the GAP Trail: Several campgrounds provide direct access to the Great Allegheny Passage trail. "The GAP trail rolls right through the middle of this traditional KOA campground. The seasonal RVers and weekend warriors have long claimed their sites, but for through riders on the trail there is a special place to camp," explains a cyclist who stayed at The Blue Canoe.

Star gazing platforms: Some campgrounds offer dedicated areas for night sky viewing. "Got a nice secluded spot to camp in the wooded area that had amazing mountain views and the star gazing platform," shares a Benner's Meadow Run visitor.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Raccoon Creek State Park Campground offers larger camping areas. "Most sites are spacious! Only downside is you can hear the airport. Not a huge deal though!" reports a recent visitor.

Pet-friendly areas: Several campgrounds accommodate pets with dedicated zones. "Loop F is pet friendly," notes one visitor about Raccoon Creek State Park, which also features "clean restrooms with good showers."

Seasonal activities: Campgrounds organize events throughout the camping season. At Fox Den Acres Campground, "They provide activities almost every evening, making sure every age range is catered to throughout the week."

Family gatherings: The layout of campgrounds accommodates group camping. "My family stayed in one of the cabins while friends were in their campers. The cabin was great, very clean and cozy," explains a visitor to Mirror Lake RV Camping & Fishing.

What you should know

Summer reservations: Book early, especially for summer weekends and holidays. "Book early for holidays," advises a repeat visitor to Benner's Meadow Run.

Water pressure issues: Some campgrounds experience utility challenges during busy weekends. Shower access can sometimes be limited, so ask about facilities when booking.

Varying site privacy: Campground layouts differ significantly across the region. At Raccoon Creek, "The area is not wooded at all and most sites look right into the sites next to them. If you are like me and crave privacy, avoid."

Fees beyond site rental: Some campgrounds charge additional costs for services. At Madison-Pittsburgh S.E. KOA, one camper noted "My only negative would be extra costs" when describing their family weekend.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Many campgrounds feature multiple recreation options. At Mirror Lake, families enjoy "playing on the playground, floating down the creek, swimming in the pool, riding bicycles etc."

Playground access: When selecting a site with children, choose locations near play areas. "Front desk staff were knowledgeable and helpful. We had some issues with our power, and Larry was at our site within minutes to fix it. Big open dog park!" noted one visitor about campground amenities and staff response.

Campground organized events: Weekend activities provide entertainment. "Saturday night was a fun DJ. The facilities are very clean," reports a visitor who appreciated the organized events.

Safety considerations: Some campgrounds have terrain challenges for younger children. At Raccoon Creek, "There is a trail that leads down from the tent loop to the beach which is cool but very very steep (not for too young or old)."

Tips from RVers

Level site selection: RV parks in Plum, Pennsylvania and surrounding areas often have varying site conditions. When arriving at Fox Den Acres Campground, one RVer found "The sites in the lower field, where I was, were roomy and level and all pull-throughs."

Grey water disposal: Many campgrounds offer specialized hookups for grey water. "Since they sit atop the mountain, the grey water hookup is a long hose that has an adapter which hooks up to your black and grey tank outlet and it runs down the hillside of the mountain into the grassy area," explains a visitor to Mountain Top Campground.

Access challenges: Large RVs face navigation issues on mountain roads. "Very steep narrow roads to access campground and sites..sites not level and noisy, next to highway," warns a visitor about Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA.

Seasonal limitations: Winter camping options require advance planning. Only select RV parks remain open year-round, with Mountain Top Campground and Pine Cove Beach Club RV Resort being the primary options for winter stays.
