Best Dog-Friendly Camping near North Springfield, PA

Virginia's Beach Campground welcomes pets at its Lake Erie waterfront sites with both camping areas and cabin accommodations available for pet owners. Several other pet-friendly options in the North Springfield area include Uncle Johns Elk Creek Campground, Follys End Campground, and Sara's Campground, all maintaining pet-friendly policies for tent campers, RV travelers, and cabin guests. Most campgrounds provide water and electric hookups at pet-friendly sites, with picnic tables and fire rings standard at all locations. Campers report bathroom facilities are generally clean though water pressure can be inconsistent at some locations. Pet waste disposal stations are available at most established campgrounds, though pet-specific amenities vary between properties.

Follys End Campground offers excellent access to pet-friendly hiking with a large stream running through the property where dogs can cool off during summer months. Virginia's Beach provides direct Lake Erie access though the shoreline is primarily rocky rather than sandy. Many North Springfield area campgrounds maintain quiet hours that help manage barking and other pet noise issues. Overnight pet fees typically range from $5-10 per stay depending on the campground. Leash requirements are standard at all locations, with most requiring pets remain on leashes no longer than 6 feet when outside RVs or cabins. The tent sites at Uncle Johns are primarily in open fields, making them less ideal for dogs needing shade during hot weather. Seasonal sites often book months in advance, particularly those with the most pet-friendly accommodations.

    Goddard Park Vacationland Campground

    Near Beautiful Lake Wilhelm

Nice park with very friendly staff. My only complaint is the sites are way too crowded. Also a little uneven. I love that this park is close to Lake Wilhelm & Goddard State Park for fishing and bike riding. 2 pools and a dog park.

    Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

    Big, beautiful lake!

Great park! Sites are spacious and level. Very clean park. There are several full hook-up sites. Electric sites near the lake. We stayed at site #96. New Bathrooms are under construction. Campground is flat and great for bike riding. Nice playground for kids. Dog park nearby. Camp is near beach & marina. Also many shops and restaurants within a 10 minute drive. We will definitely be coming back to Mosquito Lake!

    Westfield-Lake Erie KOA

    1st stop across country

This campground is very clean on the smaller side but very nice. There is highway noise but in your camper you really can’t here it. Beautiful temp and lots of things for the kids to do. Pool, playground, game room. They do have a dog park if you bring your pups. Overall very nice. I would come back.

Jamestown Campground — Pymatuning State Park

    Great state park

Nice shower and bathrooms for a state park.

I didn't like that pets are not allowed in the non-pet area as that was where the playground and swimming beach was. Made it difficult to swim and play as a family since you can't leave dogs alone at the campsite. I wouldn't bring my dog next time to this campground. There are other more dog friendly places.

Very nice areas for walking, kayaking, swimming, and playground.

    Thompson/Grand River Valley KOA Holiday

    Happy Camping

Relax, breath, and camp. Perfect spot.

This Campground is quiet, full of fun, for families or older people. Beautiful area.
Many pull through lots, with patios. 50. 30. Full hookup, (sewer and Electric) back in, pull through, tent sites, cabins, teepees. Swimming pool, private bathrooms and showers. Fishing lake, swimming lake, trails. Children play areas. Basketball, bad mitten/volleyball, Dog wash, dog parks (2), private fenced dog sites. (2)- pull through site. Golf cart rentals, and seasonal sites that are being updated, but all are decorated nicely, and kept up.
KOA is revamping some of this campground. Work in progress, but awesome stay.

    Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

    Great place!

The sites are huge. The dog park is amazing. Theres so much to do here. Swimming, boating, fishing. We love it. Only bad are no real bathrooms except at the front of the park. No place to wash dishes. Rough if you're tent camping. But we love the sites so much that we keep coming back.

    Willow Lake Campground

Nice and quiet with good layout

The sites are big with a range of surfaces available. Family run and immaculately kept. Grassy areas are cut and lush, showers and bathrooms are very clean and the layout is excellent. They have a dog park that is fenced in, no bare spots (all grass), a rock and other apparatus for dogs to climb and they even have a fire hydrant! Plus two shady spots under trees for adults to sit and relax. If we are ever going through their area we will definitely stay there again.

    Willow Lake Campground

    Always Satisfied

This is the second time we have camped here. The first time back in 2020 we paid for the cement pad spots and had zero issues. There aren’t any shade trees near the cement pad sites but the sites themselves are immaculate. This Labor Day weekend we stayed in a pull thru gravel spot. Minimal effort to get leveled and set up. Staff is friendly, site is beautiful with a few smaller trees. Nice play area for anyone who has kids. Dog park is also very nice sans the fact you have to walk past the bee infested dumpsters to get there! This is probably the most quiet campgrounds we have stayed at in the past 2 years! Very relaxing and a great place to stay!

    Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

    Great State Park Campground

We just got back from our first trip to Mosquito Lake State Park Campground. All in all, it was a great experience.

We stayed in site 67, which is a waterfront site, with electric. The water is about 25 yards from the pad, but is visible from the entire site. The site was spacious, but not as private as some of the others. There is some woods between this site and the sites on either side, but other sites are visible. The fire pits and picnic tables were staggered, so it created some distance to make it feel more private.

The campground as a whole, was very quiet. We stayed from Wednesday to Friday. The group next to us seemed a little rowdy when we first pulled in, but by 10:00 there was no noise anywhere near us.

Most sites seemed pretty level from side to side, but where we were, several had a slope from front to back. Away from the waterfront, most sites looked pretty level. The amount of space between sites varied from site to site. Some sites had woods on both sides, while others were pretty open. Some had nice large grassy areas, others were much smaller. Sites from 214-224 are in a cul de sac and are water front, but they were pretty close together with very little privacy between sites, if any. They are very close to the water though.

There are bathrooms and water scatter about, but from what I saw there was only 1 shower house.

Wal-mart and other shopping and restaurants were about 3 miles away. Park was easy to get to, only one turn for us off the highway. Lake was great for kayaking and paddleboarding. Very nice dog park in a different part of the park. There is a boat launch accessible from inside the campground.

Dump station has 2 lanes which was nice when checking out. Fresh water fill up was also located near the dump station.

Guide to North Springfield

The area experiences seasonal temperature swings with summer highs averaging 80°F and winter lows reaching 20°F. Campsites throughout the region range from waterfront locations with rocky beaches to forested settings with stream access.

What to do

Fishing access: Follys End Campground offers excellent fishing opportunities with a large stream running through the property. One camper noted, "Great place to park fish and enjoy wildlife. Bring your camera fishing rods or hiking boots." The campground caters specifically to fishing enthusiasts with supplies available on-site.

Beach activities: Sara's Campground provides direct beach access for campers. A visitor shared, "Recently took a trip to Saras campgrounds with my family... found a great campsite on the beach. Had a very good time." While the beach is primarily rocky rather than sandy, it offers swimming access and water activities during summer months.

Boating options: Lampe Marina Campground provides excellent access for boaters with its location on Presque Isle Bay. A camper mentioned, "Lots of things to do from fishing for walleye or perch or just out on a watercraft." The marina setting allows for easy boat launching and water access.

What campers like

Lake views: Virginia's Beach Lakefront Cabins and Camping offers prime Lake Erie views that campers consistently rate highly. One visitor commented, "Great view of the Lake, quiet camp ground. The shore of the lake has a little beach but it is rocky." Sites positioned along the lake provide continuous water views throughout the day.

Clean facilities: Erie KOA maintains well-kept shower and bathroom facilities that receive positive reviews. A camper noted, "Showers were excellent and very clean. The park was very well maintained." Most campgrounds in the area update their bathroom facilities regularly, though amenities vary by location.

Quiet atmosphere: Several North Springfield area campgrounds maintain peaceful environments away from highway noise. A visitor to West Haven RV Park and Campground mentioned, "Clean, sites are kept neat with beautiful patios. Very clean & quiet. Fishing pond & pool are so nice too." The quieter campgrounds tend to enforce strict quiet hours from 10pm to 8am.

What you should know

Limited tent options: Many campgrounds prioritize RV camping with fewer dedicated tent sites. At West Haven RV Park, one camper observed, "Great RV park, not for tents. They were extremely nice and accommodating, but their idea of secluded and ours were very different." Tent campers should call ahead to confirm suitable sites are available.

Seasonal considerations: Most campgrounds in the North Springfield area operate from April through October, with limited winter accommodations. Peak season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, with weekends booking 2-3 months in advance.

Water pressure issues: Water services can be inconsistent at some locations. A visitor to Virginia's Beach noted, "We had extremely low water pressure so we filled our tank and used our pump. Problem solved!" Carrying extra water containers can help mitigate potential water supply problems.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Erie KOA offers numerous amenities specifically for children. A family mentioned, "The kids enjoyed the gaga ball pit and fishing in the KOA pond. Fun little campground with friendly staff and wide open spaces. The playground got 2 thumbs up from a 4 and 6 year old." Most family-oriented campgrounds also offer organized activities on summer weekends.

Swimming options: Several campgrounds provide water access for swimming, though conditions vary. At Evergreen Lake Park, a visitor noted, "Campground has a nice fishing pond and another pond for swimming." Swimming areas typically don't have lifeguards, so parental supervision is required.

Noise considerations: Highway proximity affects some campgrounds more than others. One camper at Presque Isle Passage RV Park shared, "Also the worst part is being so close to the gas station/truck stop. Very bright lights on all night. Also close to the highway so there is constant noise!" Researching campground locations relative to major roads can help families find quieter options.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling: Many campgrounds feature gravel sites with varying degrees of leveling. An RVer at Erie KOA mentioned, "Sites are not level and are close to each other." Carrying leveling blocks is recommended for most area campgrounds.

Hookup availability: Full hookups aren't universally available. At Uncle Johns Elk Creek Campground, a visitor observed, "The sites are ok for your trailers/RV, make sure you bring enough hose to connect to water. Each site does not have their own water connector, you have to run your hose 1 or 2 sites over." RVers should confirm specific hookup arrangements when making reservations.

Dump station access: For campgrounds without sewer hookups, dump stations are generally provided. A camper at Lampe Marina Campground shared, "FYI - several dump stations so no waiting!" Most campgrounds with dump stations don't charge additional fees for their use by registered campers.
