Best RV Parks & Resorts near North Irwin, PA

Several RV parks surround North Irwin, Pennsylvania, offering varied options for motorhome travelers. Pine Cove Beach Club RV Resort in Charleroi provides year-round access with full hookups including 50-amp service and is specifically designed for RVs with big-rig friendly sites. The Madison-Pittsburgh S.E. KOA in Ruffs Dale operates all year and features pull-through sites with full hookups, making it convenient for larger motorhomes. Fox Den Acres Campground in New Stanton accommodates big rigs on level gravel sites with both 30 and 50-amp electrical service, operating from May through October. Mirror Lake RV Camping & Fishing in New Florence offers a more seasonal experience from April to October with 30-amp hookups and sewer connections. One RV camper noted, "The sites are gravel and level. It was long enough for our 22' trailer and our tow vehicle, but it was pretty narrow."

Seasonal availability varies significantly among these RV campgrounds, with some closing during winter months while others like Pine Cove and Madison-Pittsburgh KOA remain open year-round. Most parks provide on-site dump stations, though Bush Recreation Area near Saltsburg offers electric and water hookups without sewer connections at individual sites. Navigation to certain RV parks requires careful planning, as some access roads feature tight turns or steep grades. Pet-friendly policies are standard across most facilities, with designated walking areas at many locations. Propane refill services are available at select campgrounds including Bear Run, though availability should be confirmed in advance, especially during peak camping seasons when weekend reservations become essential.

    Tomlinson Run State Park Campground

    Nice little State Park

Tomlinson Run is a small state park situated in the northern panhandle of West Virginia nestled between eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Plenty of things to do there including but not limited to…. Mini golf, hiking trails, biking, swimming, fishing, paddle boats, parks for the kids, and of course the camping. The campsites here are mainly gravel pads with the exception being the asphalt handicapped spots (2). Most spots are 30 amp with a few 50 amp (new for 2021). The park also has a few primitive spots available and some yurts and cabins to rent. I have a 38’ fifth wheel and the spots are tight for it (even the couple pull thru). Campground facilities are clean but dated. They state new facilities are coming soon. The campground is at the top of a hill and the spots are wooded and shaded. I would consider the camping to be spaced generously (room to stretch out). They have a small camp store and information available. A breakfast is available during peak season for a small fee. They do have water and a dump station available (free for campers to use).

    Bear Run Campground

    Loads to do...!

This campground is deceptively big! The nightly RV sites are close to the park entrance and are relatively flat. The campground hosts themed events, game nights and arts& crafts. There is a swimming pool and playground for the kids. It also has a small café that sells baked goods and coffee. On Saturdays they sell amazing Armish Donuts!

Further into the campground the sites turn to more permanent sites. Further up the hill are more cottages and camping. This campground is steep in parts and too large to walk efficiently. There is a fenced dog run area and a beautiful lake. All sites have fire rings. There is an onsite laundry, WIFI, onsite dump station and propane refill station.

You can also buy ice and firewood. The campground is gated. Lots to do at the campground and lots to do in the surrounding area. They welcome all furry friends!

    Raccoon Creek State Park Campground

    Raccoon Creek Camping

This is a large state park offering electric only sites

The sites are set amounts the forest and there are several loops to choose from. Loop F is pet friendly. All sites are within walking distance to amenities

Amenities are quite run down but functional

Wildlife is beautiful and its a short ~10min drive to the beach area of Raccoon Creek lake.

Two (2) dump station spots and fresh water taps location throughout the park

NOTE: Many sites are not level, you will require blocks/timber to level out campers. Tent campers should choose their site using the photos on the state park site.

All sites have a paved car space.

    Glade Farms Campground

    Quiet place to rest

We headed to ride the trails at big bear lake camplands and booked here considering a recent outbreak of covid at the lake. The on call staff met us at the gated community and helped us get situated on a shaded lot. Very nice and quiet with mostly seasonal or permanent snowbirds. Small pond/lake on the property and plenty of shade. The lot was a challenge to be centered and level which led to us exiting our camper downhill. The water access was in ground and I cant imagine a camping couple that's well beyond retirement finding that convenient but it didn't impact us. Pet friendly and large lots. Bathhouse was closed due to covid. No firewood at this campground to purchase but fire ring provided and picnic tables.

Kentuck Campground — Ohiopyle State Park

    Nice Pennsylvania State Park

Very large park with a variety of campsites ranging from tent, 20/30 amp, 50 amp, and yurts. Price is the same for all electric sites, regardless of amperage. There is a 40-foot maximum vehicle length allowed in the campground– not a problem for our 17-foot van but the staffer who checked us in remarked that many people come in with larger rigs trying to squeeze in and are unable to. We had no problem securing a site with no reservation on a Monday evening after Labor Day. Very close to two Frank Lloyd Wright properties– Kentuck Knob and the more widely known Falling Waters. Other things to do in or near the park include whitewater rafting, rail trail biking, hiking, zip-lining and touring Laurel Caverns. The nearby town of Ohiopyle has many outfitters and several restaurants. The sites are all located on roads leading off the main road; we stayed in a 20/30amp site on Cherry Road (Site 49). It was right next to the bathroom which was good and bad. Good for proximity but bad because we could hear the hum quite clearly. Also, the door to the women’s room would hit you in the rear quite forcefully unless you held onto it (it took me three times to remember to do this)! There was a dishwashing sink in the women’s room (and I’m assuming in the men’s room?); it was very clean, but the only downside was having to do the dishes by myself! Alcohol is prohibited. Only certain areas allow pets. Only one garbage/recycling station outside of the campground. Wood and ice are available 24/7 on the honor system– very nice not to have to wait until a host is on duty to get what you need. Quiet hours 9 pm-8 am, a bit longer than most campgrounds but except for some sites with campfires still burning with people talking, it was very quiet in this campground. Surprisingly strong cell signal for being deep in the woods.

    Outflow Camping

    Quiet campground

This is a lovely army corps of engineers campground. The sites are gravel and level. Most only have 30 amp electric hookup but water can be filled at the “gatehouse” (for lack of better description). There are 3-4 full hookup and a few 50 amp. It is well-maintained— lawns mowed, bathrooms cleaned, sites tidy. Bath house isn’t modern but showers are hot and have great pressure. Campground filled up on the weekend. The sites are a bit close to each other and are mostly sunny but it was quiet anyway. Lots of people fishing on the river—access right from the campground. Great Allegheny Passage trail also accessed from the campground. Boating on the lake too.

    Tomlinson Run State Park Campground

    Very wooded campground

General: 50-site (all but six with electric hookups) campground plus two yurts and three cabins. Two sites are handicap accessible.

Site Quality: The sites have gravel pads (except the handicap-accessible ones which were paved). The sites were completely covered with leaves when we were there which made it challenging to determine where the actual (narrow) pad was. Sites appeared to be level. A fire ring and wooden picnic table complete the site.

Bathhouse: A little dated but clean. Two of the stall doors did not latch properly. Didn't use the shower so cannot comment but there was a sign indicating it took a while for the water to warm up.

Activities/Amenities: There is a small camper store, laundry, and a playground. In season, there is lake swimming and a boat dock. There is a fishing area, mini-golf and disc golf, and several short hiking trails. Unfortunately, since we arrived late afternoon and had to depart early the following day (and were camping off-season), we could not take advantage of any of these things. What we lose in activities, we gain in a quieter camping experience with fewer crowds, which is generally preferable for us!

    Love Pioneer Park

Very friendly ownership. Always go out of their way to accommodate. Pleanty of very well maintaIned large sights all pull through. Great camp store, fire wood, fire rings, very clean facilities. Three large lakes, fishing. One of our very favorite places to camp with our 38 foot motorhome.

Guide to North Irwin

Situated among the rolling hills of southwestern Pennsylvania, North Irwin offers direct access to the region's diverse waterways, forests, and parklands. The area sits at approximately 1,200 feet elevation with a humid continental climate featuring warm summers and cold winters. Camping options near North Irwin range from seasonal facilities that close during winter to premium year-round options, with many campgrounds undergoing significant renovations in recent years.

What to do

Boating and fishing access: Bush Recreation Area provides direct access to Loyalhanna Creek with designated boat launches for motorized watercraft. "The boat launch is a nice size to fit 2 boats at a time. The only problem is the beach is not that great. However we stayed out in the boat on the lake most of the time. It's a great place to fish and swim and just relax," notes a camper who visited Bush Recreation Area.

Biking on the GAP trail: The The Blue Canoe RV Resort in Connellsville offers direct access to the Great Allegheny Passage trail. "The GAP trail rolls right through the middle of this traditional KOA campground... For through riders on the trail there is a special place to camp, close to the west-bound entrance. The picnic tables and fire rings are surrounded by hammock poles and there's lots of space for scattered tents," explains one cyclist.

Off-site attractions: The region offers multiple cultural and historical sites within driving distance. "We stayed for 2 nights while we visited Fallingwater and the Flight 93 Memorial. We should have stayed another night so we could visit Fort Necessity NP just down the road but ran out of time," shares a visitor at Benner's Meadow Run RV Campground.

What campers like

Large, well-maintained pools: Several campgrounds feature swimming pools as main attractions. At Pine Cove Beach Club RV Resort, one camper praised the "pool & concession stand, beautifully maintained lawns and gravel campsites, modern hookups, good shower/laundry facilities, nice fire rings with built in grills, trash pickup service." Another visitor called the facility "a giant pool opened in the summer."

Dedicated camping areas for different needs: At The Blue Canoe RV Resort, through-hikers and cyclists have specialized camping areas separate from RV sites. "For through riders on the trail there is a special place to camp, close to the west-bound entrance. The picnic tables and fire rings are surrounded by hammock poles and there's lots of space for scattered tents."

Kid-friendly amenities: Multiple campgrounds prioritize family facilities. "Got a nice secluded spot to camp in the wooded area that had amazing mountain views and the star gazing platform. Kids had a great time and lots of activities for them to do!" noted a visitor at Benner's Meadow Run RV Campground.

What you should know

Site leveling challenges: Many area campgrounds have terrain issues requiring leveling equipment. At Madison-Pittsburgh S.E. KOA, one camper found: "I couldn't get it level with my Anderson levelers it was pretty slopped. On my way out I heard they were having someone come in to level the sites so I imagine it was just the time of year we visited."

Varying water quality: While most RV parks offer water hookups, quality varies significantly. "The water is not filtered," reports a camper at Bush Recreation Area. Others note the pool at Madison-Pittsburgh S.E. KOA is "clean and small but does the job, they try to open it ASAP every year."

Seasonal fluctuations: Availability and conditions change dramatically by season. A camper at Fox Den Acres Campground explained, "We stayed early in the season so many of the amenities were not open yet. We did watch kids fishing and pulling fish out as soon as they put their line in!"

Tips for camping with families

Reserve playground-adjacent sites: At Bush Recreation Area, site planning makes a difference. "We rented space 16 late August 2020 and our friends (and their kids) rented #17 on the inner circle, right next to us with the playground right behind us. Great spots! Our kids were within easy eye and earshot of the playground."

Look for organized activities: Fox Den Acres Campground provides scheduled programming. "Wonderful campground. They provide activities almost every evening, making sure every age range is catered to throughout the week," notes one reviewer.

Check bathroom facilities: Quality varies widely between campgrounds. At Madison-Pittsburgh S.E. KOA, a visitor reported, "Showers really need an update. There are no shower heads. Office is really hard to get in contact with."

Tips from RVers

Site selection affects hookup quality: At Mirror Lake RV Camping & Fishing, location influences amenities. "Monthly (which I have currently) man are those a nervous wreck! Very steep and awkward but we got it done. The whole back area is covered in blackberry bushes and in the morning you're awaken by the beautiful sounds of birds singing."

Water capacity limitations: Small facilities may have limited hot water. One camper warns, "If you stay in one of the smaller kabins with a shower, just know there will be a flood and you should wet, turn the water off, lather, then rinse. Also don't think everyone is showering one after the other or you can do dishes and wash hands as much as you want before showering because it's very small water tank, it goes lukewarm to cold quick."

Laundry facilities vary dramatically: While many RV campgrounds near North Irwin offer laundry, quality differs. Madison-Pittsburgh S.E. KOA features "big machines and dryers making life easier and less time spent doing laundry. Nice little pool and lake for fishing. Lots of full timers here. Nice bath houses."
