Best RV Parks & Resorts near Clymer, PA

Several RV parks serve the Clymer area with varying hookup options and seasonal availability. Rustic Acres RV Resort offers 100 sites with full hookups including 30/50-amp electric, water, and sewer connections. The park remains open year-round and accommodates big rigs. Mirror Lake RV Camping & Fishing provides 30-amp electric, water and sewer hookups from April 21 to October 22, though sites are not configured for larger RVs. Yellow Creek Campground at Yellow Creek State Park features electric sites with 30/50-amp service and water hookups, operating from April 15 to October 15. Silver Canoe Campground supplies full hookups with 30/50-amp capability on level sites. "The sites were all level and were well-shaded. The camp store was a great asset for small items left behind, plus prices were great for ice and firewood."

Advance reservations are strongly recommended during summer months and fall foliage season when occupancy rates peak. Most parks offer sanitary dump stations, with Yellow Creek, Silver Canoe, and Rustic Acres providing this service on-site. RV travelers should note varying cellular coverage throughout the region, with reception typically stronger near the larger towns. Bear Ridge Campground received poor reviews for utility reliability, with one visitor reporting: "Every holiday by Saturday afternoon you have no water, and electricity always goes out." Pet policies differ between facilities, though most allow dogs with proper documentation and leash control. Winter camping options are limited primarily to Rustic Acres, as most parks close from late October through mid-April due to Pennsylvania's seasonal conditions.

    Kooser State Park Campground

    Great little campground

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here. We camped at site #15 and it was perfect. It fit our 34ft toy hauler without any issues. The park is beautiful and very well maintained. -Sites are spaced out. -Dog friendly. -$5 firewood bundles at the entrance. -Cleanest bathrooms/showers -Crystal clear stream with beautiful trail to the lake. Both stocked with fish. -Lots of picnic tables at the lake. -No formal check in. -Nice playground. -Easy access to dump site. -Kinda close to a main road so you do hear some traffic but nothing too bad. We will definitely be back! We love this area!

    Roaring Run Resort

Decent Campground, no 50 amp service

This campground is a nice, quiet campground about 30 minutes from Pittsburgh. It is a membership-based campground, we stayed there using coast to coast. The campground is decent, but not sure it really qualifies as a “resort”. It is an older park that could use some updates, namely electric service, fresh gravel for the sites, and sewer, but overall the park was clean and reasonably well kept.

The park is gated, you have to stop at the security booth to check in, enter, or leave the park, so you might have to wait a few minutes, but that is a nice level of added security. It is pretty easy to navigate the park even with a larger rig, and there is an nice sized overflow parking area to unhook your toad when you first get there. I would recommend getting there before dark. They did have signs directing you to the different site number groups which was helpful.

The road my GPS brought me in was a little tight, but manageable. There was a better route but it did have a very short bridge with a 10 ton weight limit, so be sure to really check your route. Another bonus is that it is only a few minutes from the PA turnpike.

The sites are average, but there are no sewer hookups and no 50 amp service, the whole park is 30 amp. The sites are reasonable level, but the one we had was a little tricky to get into because of it being on a hill, but it was manageable. The picnic table benches were completely rotted out.

There are two dump stations, one located on the way out, and the other located in one of the upper loops.

The campground did have nice amenities, the pool was large and clean, it had a nice playground, a camp store, sports courts, horseshoes, volleyball, and a mini golf course. The staff were all very nice, and they patrolled the park throughout the day and night for security, which is always nice.

The closest town is about 20 minutes away, and there are a bunch of restaurants, a Lowes, and auto parts stores should you need supplies or make a repair.

The campground is about 40 minutes from the Flight 93 National Memorial, about 20 minutes from Fallingwater, and there were a couple of wineries in the area as well.

All in all, our visit was good. I gave three stars because of the lack of 50 amp hookups and the size and quality of the sites.

Cook Forest State Park Campground & Cabins

    Open Campground

We don’t live far from this campground, so it was a quick weekend trip in early April. Early April in western Pennsylvania means overnight temperatures in the 40’s and highs in the 50/60’s. The campground sits at the top of a ridge, with an uphill climb if coming from the south. We stayed in site #50, which was in the middle of the loop. Once there, backing in the site was easy, although the narrow road on the loop can be a little challenging, especially if you have a big rig. Once parked, leveling was easy and we were set up in no time. Our site was a little short, so the back door to our camper was near the fire ring, which resulted in smoke blowing through our camper, but nothing a can of Fabreze didn’t fix when we got home. The campground has a nice playground, volleyball court and open grass area for tossing a football or playing soccer. There are a couple of fresh water stations around the loop, so plan accordingly before arriving or be prepared to block traffic on the narrow road while you fill up with fresh water. The dump station was very open and convenient, so departure was quick. We will definitely visit this campground again, but will probably pick something with more shade, especially if visiting in the summer. We have a Winegard Air 360*, but Verizon 4G LTE was non-existent. OTA TV signal picked up a couple of TV stations.

    Laurel Hill State Park Campground

Very large and wooded state park

General: Large campground in four loops with a variety of sites ranging from tent-only, 30-amp electric, 50-amp electric, and 30/50-amp electric, along with eight camper cabins.

Site Quality: All sites are gravel; most appeared level, but some did not. All sites are wooded but some have more separation than others. Our site backed up to the creek but surprisingly, there was not a lot of water flowing in the spring,

Bath/Shower house: Basic and dated, but reasonably clean. Did not use the shower.

Activities/Amenities: Many include fishing, swimming, boating, bicycling, hiking, geocaching, and hunting. The lake is separate from the campground, but it is less than a mile away and a reasonable distance walk. There is also a playground, volleyball, shuffleboard, and a large picnic area at the end of one of the loops. Bike and boat rentals are available in the summer season; the season was set to open the day after we left so aside from hiking, we could not avail ourselves of any of the activities (and my husband had a foot injury so even hiking was out for us). There are also laundry facilities, but I did not check these out.

We were surprised that just a few days before Memorial Day, only a handful of sites were occupied. We’ve been very impressed by the pristine conditions of many Pennsylvania state parks, but this one had a more rustic feel and had not been modernized. Fleeting cell at best on Verizon.

    Quemahoning Family Recreation Area

    Enjoyable family campground

Quemahoning Family Recreation Area offers great fishing, some nice trails and generally wonderful weather during the summer season.  The campground offers some sites with electrical and others with varying primitive services.  The campground has a bathroom with showers (2 for men, 2 for women).  The result is there are sometimes lines waiting for a shower to be available.  There is a camp store where wood, ice and fishing supplies are available.  There is no trash service;  campers are expected to carry out their trash.  Campsites do have fire rings, a picnic table and parking available.  The campgrounds are pet friendly.  Boats are available to rent.  If you bring your own power needs to be electric only.

Cook Forest State Park Campground & Cabins

    Coor Forest State Park

Beautiful park with huge pine trees. 235 sites, many with electric. Most seem pretty level and big rig friendly. Good ATT & Verizon cell service. Nice trails and friendly campground hosts.

The area features a humid continental climate with warm summers and cold winters, experiencing approximately 45 inches of annual precipitation. What to do

Fishing opportunities: Yellow Creek State Park offers diverse fishing experiences on its 720-acre lake. "There is a fishing pond on site for the kids to fish. Not a huge place but it's a nice place for a quick getaway. Curwensville lake is not too far away and a golf course within 5 Miles," notes a camper at Lumber City RV Park.

Water recreation: Many campgrounds feature lakes or streams for paddling and swimming. At Silver Canoe Campground, "You can rent paddle boats or canoes to paddle around the lake." The campground includes "a pool, lake to canoe, boat & fish" according to a reviewer.

Hiking trails: Prince Gallitzin State Park offers extensive trail networks through wooded areas. A visitor commented, "Very nice state park in PA. Huge lake for water sports, scenic trails, small dirt bike oval track." The park balances water activities with land-based recreation options.

Family activities: Campgrounds organize structured activities for children. At Mirror Lake RV Camping & Fishing, "My family stayed in one of the cabins while friends were in their campers. The cabin was great, very clean and cozy... We had 8 kids and 8 adults who all had a blast playing on the playground, floating down the creek, swimming in the pool, riding bicycles etc."

What campers like

Family-friendly atmosphere: Rustic Acres RV Resort receives consistent praise for its welcoming environment. "We absolutely love it here!! family camping definitely at its best. We were thrilled to find they had a children's program on Saturday mornings. Our children had a ball making crafts, playing games, finding items on a scavenger hunt and of course snacks!" writes one reviewer at Rustic Acres RV Resort.

Clean facilities: Campers frequently highlight campground cleanliness as a major benefit. At Crooked Run Campground, a reviewer notes, "Clean bathrooms and hot showers" though they mentioned inconsistent pricing during repeat visits. Another camper at Pioneer Lakes RV Park stated, "Wonderful staff and facilities. The roads around the camp ground could use some maintenance, especially on the hill side by the pool!"

Well-maintained grounds: Several campgrounds receive praise for their upkeep. At Silver Canoe Campground, a visitor mentioned, "My 9 year old and myself got a tent site with electric for two nights and had a great time. The sites were all level and were well-shaded." Similarly, a Rustic Acres camper noted, "The campground is clean, the grass is kept cut, with no trash to be seen anywhere."

Private camping spots: Yellow Creek State Park offers unique camping options. "The private island is a beautiful campsite and has enough room for several tents. There's plenty of trees on the island so there are plenty of sticks to find for fires," explains one visitor.

What you should know

Utility reliability concerns: Some campgrounds have infrastructure limitations. At Bear Ridge Campground, a camper reported serious issues: "Every holiday by Saturday afternoon you have no water, and electricity always goes out." This highlights the importance of checking recent reviews before booking.

Hookup distances: At some rv sites near Clymer, Pennsylvania, connections may require extra equipment. A Kalyumet Campground visitor noted, "Our only complaint would be the site we were in (11) and others next to it were quite far from the water and cable hookups. I ended up having to run 60ft of water hose and 50ft of cable in order to get a connection."

Seasonal availability: Many campgrounds operate with limited seasons. Yellow Creek Campground runs from April 15 to October 15, while Mirror Lake RV Camping & Fishing operates from April 21 to October 22. Prince Gallitzin State Park's season spans "2nd Fri April to last Mon October."

Price variations: Some campgrounds have inconsistent pricing structures. A Yellow Creek camper commented, "So this is a nice weekend place to camp. Clean bathrooms and hot showers but if you like to pay a different price each time you get there, then have fun. I had 3 different prices when I went there last."

Tips for camping with families

Weekend activities: Look for campgrounds with structured children's programming. At Mirror Lake RV Camping & Fishing, "Great place to stay! You will not find better campground owners, they are amazing. After office hours they can be commonly found hanging out with their campers. Pick up cornhole games, bonfires, are the norm at the community building."

Swimming options: Pools provide safe recreation for children. Pioneer Lakes RV Park offers a swimming pool, though a visitor mentioned, "The pool water is terrible. Its so filled with salt that when you get out your skin is extremely dry and your lips shrivel up."

Playground safety: Check playground conditions before allowing children to play. A Pioneer Lakes visitor cautioned, "The playground area is unsafe. The wood on the playsets are falling apart and splintering. I had to pull a lot of splinters out of my child's hands and feet."

Cabin accommodations: For families new to camping, cabins offer comfort with outdoor access. At Crooked Run Campground, "We used the group tent sites for our Girl Scout weekend. It was a fun weekend. We participated in the Outdoors for Everyone event. The site was clean, decently level area for tents, accessible to potable water and bathrooms with showers."

Tips from RVers

Site leveling: Campgrounds vary in site preparation quality. A Pioneer Lakes camper explained, "We ended up on a grassy hill in the back. The spot was so unlevel there were 19 inches between my bottom step and the ground. This site was the same price as level ones closer to activities."

Accessibility for larger RVs: Not all campgrounds accommodate large motorhomes or trailers. Mirror Lake RV Camping & Fishing has sites that aren't configured for bigger rigs, while Rustic Acres specifically mentions big-rig friendly sites with "full hookups including 30/50-amp electric, water, and sewer connections."

Road conditions: Internal roads can create challenges. Pioneer Lakes received feedback about "roads full of potholes going back to the sites." Similarly, another visitor noted "roads around the camp ground could use some maintenance, especially on the hill side by the pool."

Campground location: RV sites near Clymer, Pennsylvania offer varying proximity to attractions. Rustic Acres provides "easy access to I80, less than 10 minutes. It is very clean, amazingly helpful staff, mix of seasonal, weekly, and overnight. Nice playground for the kids. Close to Clarion for shopping and supplies."
