Ochoco NF-Ochoco West - Prineville Area

    Great Place

This is a great place.  The cabin is vintage and takes you back in time.  It was clean and comfortable.  The out house was very clean.  There is no water so you need to bring your own.  The Fridge and stove worked really well, we did have issues trying to get the lights to work.  But we had lanterns so it was not a problem.  We were visited by some cattle that were grazing near by.  Bring your own cleaning supplies and bedding.  The beds are full size with trundles under neath, there are two of them.  There is a small table with chairs in the kitchen.  There  is a picnic table and fire ring outside as well.

    Sunny Valley Campground

    Very nice!

We were here for a quick overnight in our 24' travel trailer. The place is very nice with tent, cabin, and RV sites. Our site was partial HU but they do have full HU sites. Bathrooms and showers were clean. It's close to I-5 bit the road noise was not bad and a chorus of frogs throughout the evening distracts from it. We were in spot 67 which was spacious and offered a great deal of privacy. Picnic table and fire pit on site. The nearby covered bridge is neat to see.

Valley of the Rogue State Park Campground

Brilliant blue waters in an intrepid forest.

This beautiful camp ground is a must! They have Cabins and camp sites available. I would advise reserving far in advance. The park and sites are well taken care of and a wonderful environment for a peaceful stay with hot shower facilities and restrooms.

Family and pet friendly, you will have direct river access to The Rogue River and its brilliant blue waters. Located down it's own little valley, this gives it the seclusion you are looking for and the access to town, if needed, only about 20 minutes away.

This camp ground is well worth any drive you may have to take to get there. Gorgeous!

Rainbow Bay at Lake of the Woods

    Great spot for the family!

My entire family has stayed here twice for family reunions and it has been a great spot for the entire family! They have cabins (tiny houses) for rent as well as spots for RVs! The lake is absolutely stunning and a great size for boating and fishing. The tiny cabins do have some critters living in them but as long as you don’t leave food on the counters you should be okay!

    Willow lake

Wilderness Camping with the basics - A hidden Gem

What a fantastic lake! Secluded in the mountain back country of the Southern Oregon area - not far from Medford / Grants Pass / Siskiyou National Forest / Crater Lake

Great boating lake for water sports, good fishing, excellent hiking and great campsites and in nearby campgrounds not listed on The Dyrt yet, you can get some really secluded sites that are just beautiful... but do not expect more than an outhouse and a spigot, a picnic table (maybe a bear box?) and fire-ring- which to me is PHENOMENAL camping. Fresh water, a bathroom and nature. Works!

The Willow Lake County Park offers more amenities though and great wilderness. Its a beautiful little gem and gets amazing weather- from warm and sunny to random rainy thunderstorms that do not last long. Truly God-sent sunsets and sunrises.

Great place to make some wonderful memories with streams, creeks, the lake, the forested areas, trails, canyons, fishing, hiking, canoeing and more.

Valley of the Rogue State Park Campground

    Trying the yurt thing 💜

We had a relaxing time during our stay at the campground the yurt was warm and cozy, and has a beautiful skylight that you can open if you so choose. You will need to bring your own bedding as it’s only provides you with the furniture there’s electricity as well, but no other amenities in the yurt. The facilities were clean and easily accessible. We would definitely stay here again

Guide to Talent

Cabin accommodations near Talent, Oregon sit at approximately 1,635 feet elevation in the Rogue Valley, where summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F from June through September. Most cabin rental options in the region remain open year-round, with winter nights dropping to the 30s. Seasonal availability affects pricing, with peak rates during the summer months when tourism increases throughout southern Oregon.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Howard Prairie Lake Resort offers lakeside access for anglers with multiple fish species available. "The park is covered in oaks so there is lots of shade. Some pull through sites were not true pull through for bigger rigs so we had to back in to our sites," notes one visitor about the natural setting at Howard Prairie Lake Resort.

River recreation: The Rogue River provides multiple water activity options near rental cabins. "We camped in our van for $25 per night. Tent and car camping available. There are RV hookups too. Some small cabins and yurt structures for rent too," explains a guest at Jackson Wellsprings about lodging options within minutes of river access points.

Mountain biking trails: Forested areas surrounding cabin rentals offer extensive trail networks. "We really enjoyed staying at this park. Each day we either hiked or biked the local trails. The bike trail goes on for many miles and is quite enjoyable. You can bike into the nearby towns while staying on a safe trail," reports a camper from Valley of the Rogue State Park Campground.

What campers like

Hot springs access: Mineral waters provide therapeutic benefits near some cabin accommodations. "Developed hot pool for day use, with a discount if you are staying there overnight. Sauna and steam room available. An amazing peaceful place to be just outside of Ashland," shares a visitor about the amenities at Jackson Wellsprings.

River views: Cabins with water views remain popular options. "About 1/3 of the campsites are adjacent to the Rogue river and all of the others have a view of the river. The Wi-Fi is acceptable, they have cable TV, full hook ups and well maintained property," explains a reviewer about Riverpark RV Resort.

Quiet environments: Despite proximity to Interstate 5, many cabin sites maintain peaceful settings. "This is a great first night stopping point when heading south from Portland on I5. So close to the hiway. Nice spots and a view of the river," reports a camper about Valley of the Rogue State Park Campground.

What you should know

Site terrain variations: Cabin rental locations feature different ground conditions. "Our site was not level and had muddy ruts we needed to work around. The bathroom facilities are a bit rough, and the encampment of permanent residents, while quiet and probably very chill, is not a good look and would be a major turnoff for many people," reports one reviewer about seasonal conditions.

Water levels fluctuate: Lake levels change dramatically with irrigation demands. "Has always been one of my favorite mountain lakes, but If you're looking for recreational fun, pass. Howard Prairie is ran by Jackson county parks and rec but managed by the feds. They drain the lake for irrigation of lower fields and lakes. This causes muddy shores and sad views," notes a camper.

Booking policies vary: Reservation requirements differ between properties with cabin rentals. "We called hoping for availability and got lucky with their last one. Dani was super helpful over the phone and made booking seamless. Mike helped us back into our spot," shares a visitor about the reservation process at Riverpark RV Resort.

Tips for camping with families

Check pool availability: Swimming options exist but operate seasonally. "We were with an RV, very spacious, all the hook ups. The pool wasn't open in the fall but there was a playground which was really fun for our kid," notes a visitor at Medford / Gold Hill KOA Journey.

Consider proximity to highways: Road noise affects some cabin locations. "This is a really big campground with lots of trees and lawn space. The sites are kind of close together, there isn't much privacy. The showers and other amenities are really nice. Our campsite was about a 2 minute walk from the river," explains a camper about Valley of the Rogue State Park.

Look for alternative activities: Some locations offer unique experiences beyond standard camping. "This lake is empty now (2021) and it's a nice surprise to cross the barren lake bottom to see many different terrains. Would be a nice discovery trip for kids finding lake bottom treasures. There are many active bugs here too, for the entomologist in you," notes a visitor regarding Howard Prairie Lake during drought periods.

Tips from RVers

Check hookup placements: Utilities at cabin and RV sites may have unusual arrangements. "Some sewer hook ups are places oddly," notes a reviewer about Howard Prairie Lake Resort, highlighting infrastructure quirks that affect site selection.

Size limitations apply: Many cabin rental locations have restrictions for larger vehicles. "Pull thru sites are short my 35 footer and car just fit. Multiple sites car were sticking in to the road making it a little close pulling out in the morning," warns a visitor about Medford Oaks RV Resort.

Verify site dimensions: Confirm your vehicle will fit before booking at cabin rental locations. "Very clean and big rig friendly. I have a 38' fifth wheel and it was no problem!" reports a camper about Valley of the Rogue State Park Campground when discussing accommodation sizes.
