    Overview

Little Mt. Hoffman Lookout was constructed in the 1920s and was used by the Forest Service on a regular basis until 1978. It is one of the few remaining historic lookouts in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest and is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The lookout is still used by the Forest Service in times of extreme fire danger. The lookout is accessible by car, but the last 4 miles are on unpaved roads and difficult for RVs and cars with trailers to navigate. Visitors must bring many of their own supplies. The accommodations of this lookout may be rustic, but the views guarantee that visitors will have a memorable stay.

    Recreation

Little Mt. Hoffman Lookout is an ideal location for sightseeing and bird watching, and it's a photographer's dream. Visitors in search of more active pursuits can drive a short distance to hike and explore the many nearby hills, clearings and caves. Medicine Lake has a day use area with a large swim beach and a boat dock.

    Natural Features

Little Mt. Hoffman is a cinder cone on the flanks of Medicine Lake Highland, the largest identified volcano within California, which extends roughly 15 miles east to west and 25 miles north to south. Medicine Lake Highland has a caldera that is partially filled by Medicine Lake. Little Mt. Hoffman sits on the rim of this caldera at 7,309 feet, providing a panoramic view of this diverse volcanic landscape. Visitors can see a spectacular view of Mt. Shasta, Mt. Lassen and southern Oregon's Mt. McLoughlin. The panorama includes the Tulelake Basin to the north, the Fall River Valley in the east and the Medicine Lake Highlands to the south.

More than 200 pools of water, from mere ponds to lakes of 30 to 40 acres, dot the landscape. Large mammals, such as mule deer, Rocky Mountain elk, and pronghorn antelope, find homes in the the forests, while several varieties of trout inhabit lakes and streams. In the spring and fall, migrating geese, ducks and swans frame the Oregon sky. Black bears, mountain lions, and bobcats, also find homes in the forest.

    Lake of The Woods Resort

    All in one place.

Camped in our trailer, while son and his family rented a cabin. Great time. Music, restaurant has delicious food, and the fishing wasn't half bad (boat rentals available). This place has thought of everything. So busy we didn't have time to put the kayaks in the water. Made reservations for September 2021 while we were there.

    Great spot for the family!

My entire family has stayed here twice for family reunions and it has been a great spot for the entire family! They have cabins (tiny houses) for rent as well as spots for RVs! The lake is absolutely stunning and a great size for boating and fishing. The tiny cabins do have some critters living in them but as long as you don’t leave food on the counters you should be okay!

    Best campground ever!

By far the prettiest camp site ever. Couple hundred yards away from the lake. Well kept sites for tents and trailers. Had cabins as well and a nice beach. Awesome fishing as well! I plan on going again and again every year! But be sure to reserve in advance!

    Really fun campground !!!

Fantastic campground. All types of cabins, tent, rv camping during Summer Season. Boating. Kid swim area. Little private beaches under the trees. Nice lodge restaraunt and bar. Outdoor bbq and music on weekends. Reserve ahead and driest come camping spots! Big families. Day rate parking too. I love this place.

    Enchanting stay in the cabins

These quaint cabins are nestled craftily amongst deep woods edging a vast lake. The amenities seem to have been carefully suited to meet and exceed my daily needs, equipped with a restaurant and even additional showers. Would recommend going to the lakeside gazebo during sunset for some spectacular views of the mountain.

Aspen Point (lake of The Woods, Or)

    Nice spot on the lake

Nice campground at the lake of the woods. It's very close to the lodge and cabin's which seem like they could be very busy during the summer. The camp sites here are closer together and less private than I like. I prefer the very nearby Sunset campground which had much more old growth cover and more space between campsites. Close to many hiking trails.

    Rustic Lakeside Hidden Gem

Lake of the Woods RV and Cabin Resort in Oregon. It is a lake surrounded by trees 30 min West of Klamath Falls. This is truly a cozy hidden gem! It’s rustic and clean with all the amenities you need. The max stay is 14 days and full hook ups are $50-$60. The restaurant and pizza parlor are fantastic! And in Oregon, you pay zero sales tax!

My first fire lookout did NOT disappoint me!!

Having always wanting to , but never pulling the trigger, finally changed. OMG it was FANTASTIC!!

Easy drive, with paved roads until the very end. One receives the gate code the week prior to the reservation for the gate & door. Upon arrival you are greeted with MAGNIFICENT VISTAS 360 degrees!! Wrap-around balcony & windows!! Wee fireplace inside & a fire pit outside. 2 picnic tables. A vault toilet 20 yards away from cabin.

    Don’t wait….pull the trigger!!!

    Klamath Overnight

Klamath Falls KOA is a good stop over place on your way to Crater Lake. This KOA has all the amenities that you expect from a KOA. I especially like the pool on a hot day. It has a few unique cabins that seem like a fun place to stay along with a few tent camping spots.

There's a shopping center within a 10 min walk from the campground that has a grocery and sporting goods store along a pizza, BBQ and Thai restaurant.

    Cell Service: Good

    Klamath Falls KOA

Great campground in the middle of the city

Want to be close to town for a night. This KOA is well kept, has a small store, gas station and propane. Also offers a clean pool and restroom. Camp sites are nice wirh green grass. There are also tent camping and cabins for rent. Be aware of midges, found by the water in these parts of Oregon (koa is by a canal). They don't bite, but are annoying and look like a mosquito. This KOA is close to stores, to refill groceries, restaurants and the Amazing Crater Lake and Lava beds National Parks.

    Great campsite!

This campsite is nestled in the forest away from the highway. It has cabins, RV, and tent camping available. There is a new playground for children. When you stay, a free shower is included. The bathrooms are regular flushing toilets with showers in the room and outlets if you need to blowdry your hair. The attendant on the grounds is very nice and friendly. We arrived late (9pm) and she was able to assist us with getting settled. There is a small shop next to the office. You can also book your lot reservation online. I'll include a picture of the map of the area. For those tent camping, bring a tarp for your tent to sit on. It's a dirt, rock, and pine needles area. In the morning, you'll hear song birds.

Sunset Campground at Lake of the Woods

    Woodsy relaxation

Great campsite right on the Lake of the Woods in Southern Oregon. Perfect spot to get away from the valleys heat. Easy to step to the water from your campsite, or in a boat or just watch the kids from the private yet easily accessible lakefront. Campsites are not too close to your neighbors, yet close to restrooms. Easy to drive to the lodge and get snacks or supplies, gas...but secluded enough that you don't feel crowded. Definitely recommend.

Sunset Campground at Lake of the Woods

    Clean, wooded, lakeside

Nice & helpful hosts, several sites set aside for first come, first serve. Arrived on mid afternoon Sunday with no reservation and was able to get a lake view site. Short walk (<100yds) to lake with rocky beaches. Lots of swimmers, kayaks, paddle boards, fishing. Well maintained bathrooms, flush toilets, no showers. Forest service has been clearing dead/diseased trees, so lots of firewood laying around if they’re allowing fires. Nice lakeside trail, maybe a mile, to the day use area, resort/marina with restaurant, store, pizza, boat rentals. Mostly rv’s, deducting a star because they allow generators, which seem very popular, well into the evening. 1/2 bars of AT&T service.

    Klamath Falls KOA

Friendliest, cleanest spot for an overnight stay

We avoid KOAs and other full amenities campgrounds because they're pricey and not the camping experience we desire but when we have chore day, we like a one-stop shop and will seek these out to dump, shower, do laundry. This is our second stay at this particular KOA over a couple of different trips.

    • Easy to reserve online, great communication
    • Friendliest staff ever!
    • Clean, clean bathrooms and laundry room (I observed them cleaning on a regular schedule)
    • Easy access from highway
    • Lots of road noise and bright lights all night
    • Cramped spaces (they pack 'em in)
    • Dump station in non-FHU is oddly placed near the very busy propane refill area
    • Cheapest propane in town (this is why many of the food truck and restaurant vendors come here)
    • Nice little convenience
    • Conveniently located near restaurants, grocery and other stores-- many within walking distance
    • OK wi-fi. It's better by the laundry room
    • Good little walking path nearby

We'll definitely keep this on our favs list when we have chore day.

This KOA is great. It’s right in town but still feels serene. There are these bugs called midges that are harmless but look like mosquitos and are everywhere.
