    Riverside RV Park

RV Paradise in Riggins, ID Next to the Little Salmon

This RV Park is a little gem in Riggins, ID. Nestled next to the Little Salmon River, the sound of the river at your campsite is so soothing! The campground itself is narrow with only one row of sites available. It is situated between the Little Salmon River and HWY 95 (Main St.) you don't get much highway noise because Main St. is up high on a cliff which blocks the noise. Each site has a picnic table but no fire pit. It is $30/night and well worth it! Most sites have full hook up with cable TV and Wi-Fi available. This campground makes for a great home base for those that want to fly fish the Little Salmon and Salmon Rivers. You can also walk to downtown Riggins for a bite to eat or do some shopping :-) We had a great view of the Little Salmon River from the rear of our travel trailer. We would DEFINITELY stay at this campground again!

    Not for big trailers.

Ok campground with bathrooms. But beware it is not for 30' or bigger trailers. Rv spots are on the small side and you will not be able to get a large trailer turned around. The turnaround loop road at the end is too tight. I had the unpleasant experience of having to back my 37' trailer all the way out to te main highway. Fifth wheels may be able to make the loop but the rv spaces are rather small. No way you could leave a vehicle hooked up and not block the road.

    Park At The River

    Busy but nice!

This RV park is on the south side of Wallowa Lake nestled on the river that feeds the lake. They have 49 full hookup sites and they definitely pack them in there. We opted for a river site which is dry camping but much quieter and a bit more dispersed.

The area is a great little getaway with a myriad of activities to do. Besides the lake there is a (pretty expensive) tram that takes you up the mountain, go carts, miniature golf, discovery centers, museums, etc.

The park was clean and well maintained. Although it was great to have the river right out your front window we constantly had others encroaching on our site trying to get at the river. A simple sign to direct others to river access would have been appreciated.

Overall we really enjoyed the park and area.

    my ♥️ is in Oregon

this campground was always my favorite growing up and it still is today! they have very spacious camp sites, lots of variety (ie tent sites and full hook up sites) that would fit anyone’s needs! There are very helpful hosts onsite campfire you can buy and a jr ranger program my kids love! They also have a playground for the kids in the heart of the park! Wallowa is well worth the trip!

The RV Landing at Carlson Ranch

Great private campground off the beaten path

The RV Landing at Carlson Ranch was a well-kept and clean RV park. Easily some of the nicest bathrooms and shower facilities I have experienced. The spots are a little tight but close to the Salmon River. Each site is separated by thick well-groomed grass. Our only complaint was the sprinklers. We like to stay up late however the sprinklers go off once around dinnertime and again around 11pm. The site hosts did warn us about the sprinklers but they did hamper some of the nightly activities. This is a great RV park on your journey through Idaho.

    Wallowa Lake State Park Campground

    Beautiful area

This was our first stop in Oregon we were in Site C9 which is a pull thru with Full hook up. Big tall pines, the lake & mountains. We had a good site other than some neighbors with 10 kids kept walking through our site to get to theirs instead of walking around the circle. We finally said something after the 3rd day.

I love they have a grey water dump every 3 or 4 sites we have a fish cleaning table we set up it has a hook up for a hose to have direct water to it. We do dishes and prep food on it and we use a bucket under the sink in it to catch the water so walking over 2 sites to dump it is nice.

We launched the kayak & went out in the lake what a nice view of Mt. Howard. My husband caught some nice size Kokanee & trout.  There are some floating docks you can climb out on & have lunch the park has 5 I believe.

We took the cable cars up to Mt. Howard & hiked it was beautiful. Still had a good amount of snow on the ground up there. We had a drink & lunch at the Summit Grill.

The small town of Joseph is close by, small grocery store had to go a little further to get to a safeway.

The first few nights were so quiet, a nice bonfire & a glass of wine.

Some of the sites are small in the loop we were in there were some bigger ones.

    Park At The River

Beautiful spot but not really camping

Park at the River is in a beautiful location but it’s a full blown RV park, not a campground. The big rigs are really packed in. The dry camping spots by the river are great until the neighbors run a generator all day long. There are all kinds of amenities within walking distance: stores, restaurants, mini golf, etc.

Log House RV Park and Campground

    RV Park close to Joseph

This is a nice little RV park that is close to most things in the Joseph area.  There are several RV sites as well as tent sites.  There are also several sites that look like full time RVer's that live in the park.  The sites were a little close together, but they were able to move us after the first night so we had a little more privacy.  The bathrooms and showers were clean.  The campground was very quiet with great views of the mountains.  There is a little store onsite that also has games and books to barrow.

    Great Park, Great Fishing

We pulled our 40ft RV up here and had a great time! Not full hookups but lots of fishing we caught: blue gill, trout, bass, crappie, perch, cat fish and had a small Tiger Muskie on the line but lost it. We were there for two weeks and they did have electricity and water hookups just no dump so we showered and used the bathroom facilities which were very well kept! So we didn’t mind. There is a dump station just in town at the gas station there. Overall great experience and nice to be off the grid for a bit!

    Wallowa Lake State Park Campground

    Great Fall Retreat

We enjoyed our off season stay!

Easy back in to our fairly level site.

Unfortunately they had water hookups shut off for winter (after we made our reservation, but before we arrived). So we had to venture back out to the design acted water fill campsite our first morning.

Sites were nice, but very much on top of each other, IMHO. I prefer more privacy for longer stays. Wouldn't want to be there in peak season.

They ask that you don't offload a full black/grey tank at your site, as the septic system can't handle it... in my experience, the dump site may not be able to handle it either. We were after another camper, and it began to overflow as we finished emptying our grey... neither having been completely full.

The picnic table and firepit were at the end of the site, not next to the RV pad/door, as I would've preferred.

A nice nature trail to the lake.

Cold Springs Campground - Payette Nf (ID)

Nice campsite off the beaten path

Really nice campground a short drive from the lake. Site has nice sturdy picnic tables, BBQ stand and fire pit. The bathrooms were nice and clean vault toilets. There are hand pump water stations spread pretty far apart, but there nonetheless. The road and drive spurs are gravel, but nice and not too dusty. People were pretty good about driving slow around the loop which was nice. The camp host is “volunteer” it says on their golf cart, and we never even spoke to them in 3 days. The post on our site didn’t even have our name as the occupant for the weekend, and never even came by and asked us our name. I can see how some people had issues with someone being in the spot that they had paid for and reserved. Just no due diligence from the camp host. We didn’t get a single mosquito bite, and although the sites are close together, it’s not really any closer than most RV parks/campgrounds. We will be back.

    Wallowa Lake State Park Campground

    The smoke of 200 campfires

I should start with a few prefaces. I was at a state park on a holiday weekend. I don't rv camp. I usually camp during shoulder seasons.

Wallowa Lake is gorgeous. I regularly forgot that I was in Oregon. The snow capped peaks around the lake made me feel like I was in the Rockies.

The park was well equipped with showers, floral toilets, and dish washing sinks. The sites were reasonably well spaced.

The day use area was very crowded, but to be expected on a holiday weekend. The cottonwoods were snowing and it was magical.

This campground has about 200 sites. When each one of those sites is having a campfire, it creates a mini inversion and the smoke just hangs close to the ground, making it extremely difficult to breathe. I also noted that every night, at least one fire was left unattended, which was concerning.

The Chief Joseph trailhead is just at the edge of the park with an extremely steep first mile or so, but easing out into a lovely walk through the Eagle Cap Wilderness. Even on the holiday, I didn't see a single other person.

    Riverside RV Park

    Beautiful and Inexpensive

We stayed in site 8 (full hookups) which is on the river. The view of the river was so spectacular. The river is several feet down with no fence so not the best space if you have young kids (which we don't). The site was large enough to park our 31ft 5th wheel. We had a small lawn for our dog. Easy in/out access through the park. Town with gas, groceries, and restaurants close by. The park was very lovely and maintained. Just a note there isn't shower/restrooms facilities in the park so you will need to use your rigs. We would definitely stay again.

    Minam State Campground

What a gem to find while looking for a place to stay without reservations. This state park is first come first serve and cost $10/night. There are four great spots by the river for RV's. There are a couple of nice spots for tenting and a couple RV spots in the grass. There are about 6 spots for RV's to back into with water near by. There is no power in any of the spots. There is usually enough space in the trees to allow for solar to recharge the batteries. Only one person ran a generator while we were there for 4 nights. Will be going back again! Great fishing along the river. Need to be on the look out for bears, as this was a homestead place many years ago and they have apple trees on the property. Saw one dead rattle snake and a small baby one on the road while walking. There is no cell service at the campground.

    Swiftwater RV Park

Nice location on the Snake River

We spent 2 nights here in late April so we nearly had the place to ourselves. Bill & Pam are very nice folks. Very laid back, helpful, and accommodating. We had a crew of 7 tents and 3 vehicles. We pretty much took over the Gazebo which had lighting, a big central fire pit, and lots of camp chairs.

The flush toilets each had a shower and there were several coin op washers and dryers.

The biggest surpprise was the WiFI was very good. Strong signal throughout the small RV / camping area. We essentially had only extended service with our Verizon cell service. One of the crew had AT&T with the same.

    Fields Spring State Park Campground

Beautiful and quiet, far from anything

My husband and I love this State Park. It was definitely a good, long drive to get to, but was so worth it (about 5 or so hours from Walla Walla). The campsite was close to showers and water, and not too close to others. Both tent and RV camping is allowed. The hiking trail was long and absolutely amazing, and we ended up near a fire cabin used during the winter and summer. There was a night where coyotes came very close to the campground, and the rangers took care to ensure they didn't get too close. Everyone we came into contact with was friendly and helpful. We saw so much wildlife since it's located far away from cities and people. So worth it!

The RV Landing at Carlson Ranch

Beautiful Place Run By Terrible Owners

We were hired as the park's camp hosts for the summer 2022 season and traveled over 2,000 miles for the job. We were extremely excited about the opportunity because it seemed like a dream job in a dream location. It is a family- owned and operated business and had all the indications of an excellent work opportunity. The agreement was 20hrs a week in exchange for our site. Our duties were the typical duties you see; cleaning the bathhouse, checking in guests, maintaining the sites, etc. We had the opportunity to earn additional wages on a case-by-case basis. Simple enough. We saw no red flags during our two phone interviews. However, over the next three months, things deteriorated rapidly. We found out some things the hard way (like, for example, the fact that they flew through 5 camp hosts during their first two years in operation- and the park is only three years old), and I'd like to spare anyone else from making the same mistakes we did.

So, let's get into the ugly.... It's a long read, but I promise I'm not being dramatic.

The owners' communication skills were almost non-existant. This created unnecessarily difficult situations on more than one occasion. Coupled with the fact that they frequently flip-flopped on the directions they gave their employees and waffled on the demands they made, working for them became increasingly frustrating and unrewarding. This became a massive sticking point because they claimed to excel in communication, when any employee could tell you that was a complete crock of (you know what).

They micro-managed unlike any employer I have ever seen (and I was active duty military for six years), which added to the stress. They also seemed to be completely out of touch with how long work around the park actually took. This is probably due to a combination of the facts that they were used to employing primarily family members (who would not mind selflessly working without having every hour of labor compensated) and that they had never actually done the work themselves. Things look very different from an air conditioned office than they do out in the heat. Appropriate attempts were made to handle issues through the proper channels, but at best they were ignored and at worst they were responded to with passive aggression. Apparently, as part-time employees, we were expected to read their minds, anticipate their needs, and go far above and beyond what any reasonable person would consider appropriate to communicate.

There were a thousand little cuts that added up to an insurmountable degree of inconvenience, but a few of the biggest were feeling that my time and labor were undervalued, that I could not leave the property on any day other than my off day (but could not expect to be compensated for the hours I was essentially held hostage there), that I had to walk an impossible balance between working enough hours but not working too many (a vague detail of our contract that we never did receive clarification on, no matter how many times we asked), a lack of clear communication, and feeling that we were looked down upon as "less than" them. And since we lived on the property, it was impossible to leave the work at work, and find any peace at home.

The kicker and final nail in the coffin of this whole thing was when, after leaving an honest review and feedback of the company through a public channel, one of the owners sent my spouse a nasty wall of text message, full of ageist inuendos and rude implications about the type of employment we would be best suited for. Apparently, when their behavior had the potential to make them look bad in a public space, the owners were all too eager to "communicate". The entire thing came off as tacky and unprofessional, and I regret giving them so much of our hard work and effort.

I'd like to give an honorable mention to some of the other, full-time employees, like our manager Chris who was very sweet (but very much not in control of anything). If it had been possible to only work for her, we would not have left. But the owners' personalities are toxic and overbearing and it was completely untenable. Since we left, the RV park ran an aggressive hiring campaign ad on Facebook, so there's a chance you may have seen it. Please save your sanity (and gas money) and do not entertain the opportunity.

Super fun fact that actually isn't fun at all- one of the owners is now the Idaho County State Senator....😊

    Love The Fishing

I always love camping and fishing the valley, this camping ground is free to use. It is very clean and has great fishing during trout season. Make sure you get here early if you have a rv or trailer during the summer as it’s first come, first serve and locals love the place.

    Hell's Canyon: Pleasantly Surprised

On Oregon Highway 86 in Hell's Canyon at Oxbow, across from an Idaho Power Station (and managed by Idaho Power), this was a handy place to stay to be close to a boat launch for a rafting trip we had booked.

There are tiny campsites (maybe the smallest I've seen) and lovely large campsites here. We lucked out and had reserved a big one on the lawn instead of a little one against the rock wall. We were near the power station but we didn't notice it much due to the trees and stream.

There is shade! This was nice considering it gets hot in Hell's Canyon. Even being next to the river and in a rare shady spot in the canyon, the after-dark temperature was in the upper 80's when we stayed here in early August 2020. They water the lawn at night to keep it green, so heed those "sprinkler - do not camp past this point" signs. The bathrooms look nice online (inc. showers), but we camped here during 2020, so we had a row of sunbaked port-o-potties to contend with.

The location was super practical for our needs, our spot was spacious,  and the canyon is beautiful, but due to the heat I probably would pick a place higher up on the canyon rim or closer to Halfway, OR to camp if camping were the main goal (especially in August).

Fair amount of bugs, but that's not specific to this campground.

Some stats, according to the Idaho Power website: Day use in the park is free. 59 RV sites with water and electric hookups(30-amp); 10 tent sites with shared water; Picnic area with tables Fire rings; Additional vehicle and boat trailer parking available; Public pay phone (phone card required for non-local calls); Boat launch and docks located approximately one-half mile downstream of the park, on Homestead Road

Copperfield was a mining town known as “the rowdiest town in Oregon” in the early 1900s. Fire destroyed the town in August 1915. The park was built in 1965 on the old town site of Copperfield, Oregon. (https://www.idahopower.com/community-recreation/recreation/parks-and-campgrounds/copperfield-park/)

I went to book this for a weekend for a family trip in the summer.. They do not have any tent spots. She was OK with our motorhome and one tent but the minute I said we had two kids and two small tents. She immediately informed me that she would not be renting to us.

    USFS Campgrounds are the BEST!!!!!

More and more I'm staying at USFS campgrounds and enjoying the experiences. Yes, they're dry, but they're cheap, dark, quiet and in exceptionally beautiful places. Ollokot is in the Hell's Canyon Recreation area and is seriously the best campground I've encounter on my latest 4 week fall trip. Located right on the Imnaha River, the scenery is breathtaking, the sites are big with lots of room. It's a short drive up to the Hell's Canyon Overlook which is spectacular. Only downside is the road out of Joseph to get there.....it's not for the faint of heart if you have a larger RV. Narrow, potholes and absolutely no wiggle room. It's six inches between you and the side of the canyon. So take it SLOW!!!

Nice Camping Beaches near Great Fishing on the Salmon River!

This spot is for tent campers and maybe some pop-up trailers. It is dry camping and they do have some restrooms in the area. Nice sandy beaches for those that want to relax near the roaring sound of the river. Great salmon and smallmouth fishing upstream or downstream. Downstream is the confluence of the Salmon River and the Little Salmon River near the town of Riggins, ID. There is an Elk Farm on the other side of the road up the hill from the campsites. During the rut season (fall) you can hear their bugles echo through the canyon. If you are an experienced paddler, you can kayak this stretch of the Salmon River. Just be careful of the fishing boats that can sometimes cruise through this stretch at high speeds. Some parts of the season, the campsites can fill up. It is first come, first serve. Pack out what you pack in and keep the site clean :-)
