Several parks offer on-site amenities including trash collection, shower facilities, and restrooms, though availability differs by location.

    Lake Carl Blackwell

    Relaxing time

We reserve two sites side by side in the beaver cove campground. The sites are on a slight decline but pull through and we were able to make them level with our blocks. The sides have enough room for the grandkids to roam around it besides for electric and water only but offered a view of the lake and we're close by a swim area. The trees at the sides provided adequate shade for the afternoon sun and the campground offered boat ramps couple of swim areas and on-site store for gas and supplies including and after hours vending machine with propane tanks and charcoal and s'mores supplies. The dump station provided slots for three RVs at one time and well thought out. The crap ground offers hiking bicycle and horse trails that cover a large area. Wildlife was abundant with plenty of deer and Canadian geese and squirrels. The campgrounds offer some annual sites for long-term visits but there is a waiting list to be on that.

    Walnut Creek Recreation Area Campground

    Beautiful affordable campsite

We stayed one night in October with our 22' airstream. Marion the host was welcoming and check in was easy. Beautiful small RV area overlooking lake. Electric sites, no water, some pull through. Close to town. Only $20 a night, would definitely stay again. Went to the Omaha Zoo and it was great!

    Great place for overnight stay

Stopped here for an overnight stay before last travel day home. Nice level concrete pads (pull through) made getting setup easy. Full hook ups so our tanks were dumped when we left. The restaurant has great breakfast at a really good price.

Nice and quiet located on the side of the town. The bathroom where close i assume they will open later in the season. I didn’t see anyone, but they have cameras at the entrance. Caseys gas station in a walking distance from the campground. And the best is only $15 a night. $10 just to dump and only $3.50 for primitive camping.

    Lake McMurtry West Campground

Private RV Sites with easy lake access

We really love the long, relatively private sites on the west side. Each campsite is somewhat screened from the neighbor by brush.

Each site has a picnic table and a fire ring, water and electrical hookups.

There is a dumpster on the circle. There is a shower and a toilet at the bait shop. Each (west side) campsite has access to the lake.

Our favorite campsites are #11 and #12, which are a little more private, and because we can easily launch our kayaks from both spots and they have nice areas to fish.

There are many nice hiking trails.

The west side is our favorite place to camp within 60 miles of Stillwater.

The cons - ticks are very plentiful, and we have heard that copperheads are plentiful in the camping area. I personally haven't seen one, but camping neighbors are always happy to let us know when they have! Might take a weed eater and clear the brush on your path to the water!

The road to the campground is fairly long and winding, but easy to make with the trailer as long as you obey the speed limit.

The only other con is it is hard to get reservation. They have a very nice online reservation system, but the campsites fill up quickly and pretty far out date wise. I wish they had twice as many campsites!

    COE Lake Skiatook Twin Points

    Gorgeous sunsets!

We stayed several nights (Fri/Sat) in September. Site #35. This site is lakeside and has lake access.

This site shared a water spigot with the site next door, and our hose wouldn't reach so it meant a quick trip to the Skiatook Wal-Mart to get a 50' hose.

Skiatook Wal-Mart was a bit of a drive from this campground.(14 miles, about 20 minutes, but it seemed like forever).

There was electrical hookups, water hook ups, and a picnic table. Restrooms available within the campground.

We fished a lot, and kayaked in an inflatable, but didn't catch much.

Lots of families camp in this campground. Many people had boats, kayaks, as well as remotely operated toy boats and such. One guy was parasailing in some kind of a rig that had a gas motor.

Lots of big rigs with televisions going (outside, watching football…) the weekend we were there. It was a little bit nosier then I would like. I prefer sounds of nature.

Perhaps a visit during the week would be better.

On the up side, the camp staff and fellow campers were very friendly. The water was clear, and the view we had was gorgeous!

Guide to Kaw Lake

Campgrounds near Kaw Lake offer camping options beyond standard RV parks. The region encompasses shoreline camping in a mixed-grass prairie ecosystem at approximately 1,010 feet elevation with hot summers and cold winters. Oklahoma's Northern region camping presents varied terrain with riverfront views, wooded settings, and lake access points within driving distance of the 38-mile-long Kaw Lake.

What to do

Fishing access: Cedar Crest RV park provides an on-site stocked fishing pond for guests. "Stocked fishing pond," notes Julie H. in her review. This eliminates the need to travel to Kaw Lake for casual fishing, particularly convenient during winter months.

Walking trails: The wooded areas around The Sandbur RV Park feature maintained walking paths with lake access. "Nice wooded walking trail with access to a private lake beach front," according to John L., who visited during winter and noted "nice little hills for snow sledding" in the area.

Campus exploration: For travelers interested in educational attractions, Cowboy Camp Upscale RV Park offers proximity to Oklahoma State University. Sarah J. reports, "We came in and spent one night to see a music recital at OSU. This was the perfect location," highlighting its convenience for campus visitors.

What campers like

Concrete pads: Level, durable sites reduce setup time and eliminate muddy conditions during wet weather. James B. at Sooner's Corner noted, "Nice level concrete pads (pull through) made getting setup easy. Full hook ups so our tanks were dumped when we left."

Storm shelters: Oklahoma weather can change rapidly, making safety features important to campers. Cedar Crest RV park provides protected areas during severe weather, with Julie H. noting the campground offers a "safe storm shelter" among its amenities.

Rural seclusion: Rivershire RV Resort & Camping delivers quieter camping experiences away from highway noise. Phillip D. describes it as a "quiet campground with river views," appealing to campers seeking more natural settings than roadside parks provide.

What you should know

Site width considerations: Maneuvering larger rigs requires careful planning at some campgrounds. Chris S. at Settle Inn RV Park warns, "The sites are pretty narrow with some overhanging trees on the corners - we pulled two fifth wheels into two sites and both were within inches of the trees and the edges of each roof while pulling into the sites."

Limited shade: Summer heat impacts comfort at several campgrounds. Crystal C. notes that Sooner's Corner RV Park "is limited on shade but does have basic amenities and proximity to quick fuel before hitting the road again."

Variable staffing: Off-season visitors should plan accordingly. Jackie A. observed at Cowboy Camp, "There is no manager on site, at least not during the off-peak season," suggesting campers may need to be more self-sufficient during winter months.

Tips for camping with families

Laundry access: Extended stays with children benefit from on-site facilities. Cedar Crest receives praise for its "convenient on-site laundry and general store" from Julie H., while B confirms the facilities are "well kept."

Indoor gathering spaces: Weather alternatives provide flexibility for family trips. Jackie A. appreciated that Cowboy Camp offers "a gathering room with sofas and a big screen and then a conversation area out on the patio."

Spacious sites: Room for outdoor activities matters for families. John L. found The Sandbur RV Park offered "great size lots and lots of room for rv, vehicle and camp/fire area," providing space for children to play safely.

Tips from RVers

Price fluctuations: Seasonal events affect availability and rates. Jackie A. warns about Cowboy Camp, "Significantly more expensive during OSU events and games, so plan ahead!"

Temporary stays: For travelers passing through the Kaw Lake region, Andrew recommends Sooner's Corner: "Easy parking, easy hookup and easy departure. If you need to stop for the night, don't pass this one by. Price, proximity to I35, and cleanliness are all positives."

Delivery services: Long-term campers appreciate modern conveniences. John L. points out The Sandbur RV Park's connectivity advantage: "Amazon delivers out here!" This allows RVers to receive supplies without leaving their campsite.
