Best Campgrounds near Eaton, OH

Campgrounds surrounding Eaton, Ohio range from state parks to privately-owned resorts offering diverse camping experiences. Hueston Woods State Park Campground, located approximately 15 miles west of Eaton, provides tent, RV, and glamping options with both electric and full-hookup sites. Natural Springs Resort in nearby New Paris features cabin rentals alongside traditional tent and RV camping with water recreation opportunities. The region includes several KOA locations with amenities like cable hookups and Wi-Fi, while more primitive options can be found at the Dayton Metro Parks system for those seeking a more rustic experience.

Most campgrounds in the area operate year-round or with extended seasons running April through November. "Sites are close. Scuba diving available as well as canoe rental. Beach for swimming. Waterfront sites are nice," noted one camper about Natural Springs Resort. Reservation requirements vary by location, with state park sites filling quickly during summer weekends, particularly in popular loops A and B at Hueston Woods. Many private campgrounds offer full hookups with 30/50 amp electric service, while more basic sites typically provide fire rings and picnic tables. Cell service can be spotty in more remote camping areas, especially in the non-electric sections of state parks.

Water recreation stands out as a primary attraction at many area campgrounds. The spring-fed quarry at Natural Springs Resort offers swimming and fishing opportunities that receive consistent praise from visitors. Campground layouts vary significantly, with some sites receiving criticism for being too close together. One visitor remarked, "If you are looking for peace and quiet, some locations may not be ideal as weekend noise levels can be high." Several campgrounds feature playgrounds, swimming pools, and hiking trails. Wildlife encounters, particularly with raccoons, are commonly mentioned in reviews of Hueston Woods, where campers also appreciate the wooded sites that offer privacy and natural shade. Campground store amenities and shower facilities receive mixed reviews across locations, with older facilities showing signs of needed maintenance.

    Stonelick State Park Campground

Big sites but can be loud and crowded

Nice big sites, fairly level. We camped at site 35 and it was very slopey, our levelers only helped a little. First night the shower house STUNK but then the next day it smelled fine while our closest bathrooms were out of order. The trail to the lake was right next to the sit and that was lovely.

    Summit Lake State Park Campground

Peaceful park and great hiking trails

Although we only spent one night here during the week, the campground seemed very peaceful and quiet, even though there were quite a few campers. Sites 1 through 74 seem to be a lot more level and larger, but they were in a sort of an open area with very little shade. The rest of the sites were fairly unlevel, but were in shaded areas. I would think a rig more than 31 or 32 feet long would have difficulty maneuvering around the curve at the end of the second loop. We are a 30ft. Fifth wheel and it was pretty tight for us. Lots of trees. The showers were your typical camp showers not great but not horrible. There was a large lake that one could enjoy fishing on. Also some great hiking trails in the area.

    Jim Terrell Park

    Looks Good!

    8/13/2025

NOTE: I did NOT stay here. I was going to, but decided to drive a little farther than I had initially planned. I did want to check it out though because there aren't many reviews.

This looks like a solid option to tent for a night though. The town looks very nice and quiet, and the park seems well-kempt. If the sites are on the river, just know there's a restaurant on the opposite bank that might be a source of noise/light at night, and the park itself is kind of close to the road. I'm not exactly sure where one would tent, but there did seem to be some flat space behind a rafting/kayaking shack to the left as you pull in.

    Cowan Lake State Park Campground

    Sizeable Site, Good for Families

We stayed in Site 78. The lot was VERY large and well maintained. The asphalt pad was decently level; a picnic table and fire ring were included.

There was significant variety in the types of sites: some were quite wooded while others were full sun. Some sites were much larger than others.

The restrooms were decent. They weren't new; however, they were very clean. I didn't check out any bath houses.

The campground was filled with parents and kids riding bikes, playing, and having fun. Nobody was out of control or obnoxious. Plenty of dogs were present.

    We'll return next summer.

    Cedarbrook Campground

    Wonderful stay w one hiccup

This is a very well managed and maintain campground except the laundry facility. Washers are old and bed bugs were found. If you stick to your own camper you will be safe. Any campground that has cabins will have bedbugs. That’s a fact!

    Indian Springs Campground

    Nice campground, well cared for

The spaces are gravel and level. The campground is mostly RV with a few private apartments/houseboat.

Quiet, most all of the waterfront sites were taken. We took a chance on last minute reservations and there were plenty of pull through spots. Easy to setup.

Checkin/out no problem. They have a code for gate entry.

Bathhouse bathrooms are date but clean. A bit on small side, not very comfortable.

There is not much common area for grass/waterside…kinda feel like your in someone’s spot/yard area.

There is a playground for young kids.

About 30 minutes from downtown Cincinnati…easy to get to a game.

    Kiser Lake State Park Campground

    Quiet

The campground has no full hookups but does have electric. RV sites have a view of the lake. Sites are clean and paved. There is a new shower house that’s pretty nice, but the other bathrooms are pretty nasty. For $29 nightly it’s a good campground. They do things with kids on many weekends. You can also rent canoes or paddle boats. No motors permitted on the lake.

    Thousand Trails Indian Lakes

    Needs new management

Terrible management. Pics are outdated and most everything is run down. Only one pool open during short hours. No gas station, no slide, nasty lake water & nobody takes the trash/dumpsters out. Completely inundated with annual spots being reserved by weekend warriors meaning minimal availability for people who want to be here during the week. There are SEVERAL dozen spots available and we were told if the spot we got didn’t work we could pick something else. At 8pm during dinner we were disturbed by a park ranger and forced to move to a spot half the size with no hookups. She literally brought us to an overflow area that our rig doesn’t fit in. She made us pack up our entire camp site to move so someone else could have the spot, even though there were MULTIPLE spots available. Had to be extremely persistent to get a FHU spot only to see dozens continue to be available for the rest of our 2 week stay.

They also charge you $5 per package to pick up your own mail from the building and $10 for a key card to access the park. Management is certainly skimming off of customers here. Will travel further to another TT campground to avoid this place in the future.
