Established campgrounds dominate the camping landscape within a 25-mile radius of St. Henry, Ohio, with several state parks offering diverse accommodation options. Grand Lake St. Marys State Park, approximately 10 miles northwest, provides tent sites, RV hookups, cabins, and glamping facilities year-round. Lake Loramie State Park, located about 12 miles east near Minster, features similar amenities with additional water-based recreational opportunities. Most campgrounds in the region are developed facilities with electric hookups, drinking water, and modern restrooms, though a few primitive tent-only areas exist for those seeking more basic experiences.

Reservations are typically required at the state parks and private campgrounds, especially during summer weekends and holidays. The region experiences four distinct seasons, with camping most popular from April through October. While winter camping is available at some facilities, many water systems are shut down during cold months. Water quality issues affect several lakes in the area, particularly Grand Lake St. Marys, which has experienced algal blooms. As one visitor noted, "The entire lake stinks of pig poop. All the air smells like poo. You feel like you are breathing feces when you approach the water."

Campers consistently praise the spacious sites and family-friendly amenities at most established campgrounds. Grand Lake St. Marys State Park receives high marks for its swimming pool, splash pad, and playground facilities, though the lake itself often has swimming advisories. The campgrounds at Lake Loramie offer access to fishing, boating, and hiking trails, with some sites located directly on the waterfront. Several visitors mentioned appreciating the proximity to small towns for supplies and attractions. Private campgrounds in the area such as River Trail and Cottonwood Lakes provide additional amenities like fishing ponds and swimming areas. A camper described Lake Loramie as having "a pretty lake with many islands, coves and inlets perfect for a couple of days of paddling or fishing," though noting the campground itself can feel crowded with sites positioned close together.

      This Is A Review

      Campground is clean and quiet.

Camp sites are grassy surrounding a flat gravel park site. Sites are wooded with good amounts of shade. There are very few nightly sites - most of the sites here are seasonal only. We were here in the second week of June and hardly saw a soul outside their camper or walking around the campground.

Bathrooms are clean and spacious. Showers don't have benches or shelves. The water smells strongly of sulfur.

Camp Brewing is the brewery at the entrance of the campground. Highly recommend a visit! Great variety of beers and excellent vibes. Dogs are allowed on the patio and they have a kitchen that makes pizza and wings.

Overall, would stay here again. Wish there was a little more livelihood around the camp sites, but this is a great spot to enjoy the quiet.

      Quite and pleasant campground

My husband and I and our 2 dogs stayed 4 nights at the campground for an event. Right outside of Hartford city you never know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice the campground is. There is a pool, a lake in the back for fishing, 2 kids parks, a mini putting area, and lots of open field. No noise from traffic, you are close to Hartford city if you need anything (just don’t go to the McDonald’s). Lots of other campers here that seem to have annual stays. We choose spot 108 because it was in the back and pretty secluded, no one else was around us. Picnic tables and firepits at the sites. They also have buddy campsites. We didn’t use the wifi but it was accessible. They also have a rec area and have campsite chat nights, games, and all the fun stuff. Great place and would stay again!

      Mercer County Fairgrounds

      Fairgrounds early in the year

Clean, quiet and very nice. One of about 10 RVS in the park, nice and peaceful. They were exercising the horses this morning, and I really enjoyed watching. The staff was excellent. I thought the experience was great.

      Very clean and shady

The campsites are shaded and pretty level. I am using a pull through and it is long enough for my RV and 24’ trailer. There is a very nice cement slab with a nice fire pit and picnic table.

      Summit Lake State Park Campground

      Summit lake state park

Its an ok park. The water is shared with your neighbor, so be sure to have a lo g hose. The showers were sketchy. I wouldn't use them personally. Wecsaw a couple of unattended fires smoldering in empty campsites. And we paid for an overnight reservation. Came in around 5pm. They charged us $7 for day use. I dont think you should have to pay for day use ANYWHERE that you've paid an overnight reservation. We are through travelers and its just plain irritating to me.
