Best Cabin Camping near Orwell, OH

Cabin accommodations near Orwell include furnished options at several state parks and private campgrounds. Mosquito Lake State Park Campground offers cabins with electric hookups and basic amenities, while Pymatuning State Park provides cabin rentals at both Jamestown and Linesville campgrounds. "The Park Model Cabin was sort of a half trailer with a full bathroom and full kitchen," notes one visitor about their stay at a nearby resort. Most cabins feature picnic tables, fire rings, and access to shared bathroom facilities, though deluxe models may include private bathrooms, kitchenettes, and air conditioning.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Pet policies differ significantly—some cabins welcome pets while others strictly prohibit them.

Most cabins include beds but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Basic cabins typically provide electricity, beds, and outdoor cooking facilities, while deluxe models may include kitchen equipment, bathroom facilities, and climate control. One reviewer mentioned, "The beds in the cabin rentals are rock hard," highlighting the importance of bringing additional sleeping pads or cushions for comfort. On-site camp stores at locations like Thompson/Grand River Valley KOA and Kenisee's Grand River Campground stock essential supplies, firewood, and ice. Walmart and other shopping options are approximately three miles from Mosquito Lake State Park for more extensive provisioning needs.

    Salem-Lisbon Ohio KOA

    A Traditional KOA Experience

This was a Fall camping experience in a cabin as we knew it would be cold in the evenings.  We also had a non-camper with us so this was a nice compromise.  We had a cozy cabin with 2 bathrooms.  We also had a small kitchen where we could cook when we didn't want to cook over the fire.  This was another way for us to social distance as COVID-19 was still an issue.

I also took photos of the camping bathrooms as each KOA does it a little differently. You will notice that the bathroom is unisex.  It is a single bathroom (toilet and shower).  This is in the center of the campground.  The bathroom photos below are not of the cabin.

The cabin you see here is the Deluxe. "Deluxe Cabin(More than two Bathrooms), Patio Deluxe Cabin(w/ Bathroom)- Evergreen KL8-9-10 Perfect for large family or two couples with two queen bedrooms, sleeping loft, 1 1/2 baths, kitchenette, 3 tvs located in quiet corner with shade trees. Sorry, Not Pet Friendly! Linens are included in all seasons except Winter. Please bring pool towels." Taken from Reservation Email.

For 2 nights it totaled $153.00 which is a good price compared to other cabins we were looking at within the region.  We could have had others camping in the tent section of the campground so it is an easy way to have a mixed crowd for a camping outing.

I did type in some information into the Special Requests within my reservation booking online, as I had a question about who had to pick up the key as a friend lived closer.  No one responded and I had to call them.

Cabins Check in is at 3PM and Check out is at 12 PM

We were able to buy firewood from the KOA camp office. They bring it to your campsite and we were able to grill hotdogs and other food items on our camp fire.  Do read the general information closely and look at number 15 for a free scoop of ice cream.

https://www.whitehousefruitfarm.com/donuts  We did a donut run and explored the farm for our outing for the day.

We also spent the day checking out a local mill https://www.millcreekmetroparks.org/visit/places/mill-creek-park/lantermans-mill/

    Goddard Park Vacationland Campground

    Unhappy camper - again

I told my wife that this was the rotten place that we stayed at before. She insisted that was somewhere else but there we were, all the people complaining about the nasty manager lady as we are swimming by AND the creepy, chubby manager dude with the grey goatee, ogling the little girls a little too long. Why are those people still there?? All she does is sit outside the office and smoke cigarettes and he creeps around. Everyone hates them and will smile to their faces but they're horrible!

Pros: paved roads, mostly clean bathrooms and two swimming pools. Cons: Teeny, tiny sites. Bingo hall bathrooms are gross. Awful, rotten egg smelling water. The beds in the cabin rentals are rock hard. Horrible WiFi. Good luck if you’re there and the electric cuts out. Very few activities (which you will also hear about"there used to be so many activities" "Lisa never has any activities any more") Good grief, the people are unhappy but I guess, too cheap to move on to a better place? The entire staff complains about them constantly, especially Rhonda in the office. I just came in to buy ice, lady, I don't need to hear about much you hate your boss!

I would suggest you keep looking rather than tolerate this toxic place and all the unhappy seasonal people and employees. Save your money and vacation time for a nice place with decent management.

    West Branch State Park Campground

Well kept campground with access to beach and dock

Each campsite in on a leveled cement pad and comes with a fire ring a picnic table. There is plenty of room around your site and you don't feel crowded. Most sites offer nice tree coverage for shade. The restrooms and showers are very clean and well taken care of. There is also a laundry facility and sink outside each one for washing dishes and water fountains throughout the park. There is a nice beachfront for swimming and then a dock that be reached from outside the park. A beautiful lake for kayaking or boating. The store has most camping needs in it and once a week they host an ice cream social. Has a very nice playground and a sand volleyball court. There are some hiking trails, but nothing extensive.

    Roundup Lake RV Resort

Great Lively Place with lots of Amenities

Starting off, everyone from the employees to the other campers were super friendly! My boyfriend and I rented The Park Model Cabin which was sort of a half trailer with a full bathroom and full kitchen. The bed was the only detractor of our trip, as it was mostly springs. We brought our air mattress in for the second night and slept much better. The themed weekends throughout the season are fun and festive and there are a lot of activities to do and participate!

Sun Retreats Geneva on the Lake

It's Easy to Love this Campground

As newbies to all things RV, we needed a place in Ohio to break in our new travel trailer. Indian Creek is family and pet friendly with all the amenities and even a great lookout spot across the street where you can take in a Lake Erie sunset. We loved the clean bathrooms and appreciated the staff's effort to maintain services while encouraging social distancing. All of their COVID-19 policies were well spelled out online and in signage across the resort so that you knew what to expect. All of the staff wore masks and bathrooms were cleaned often. Some of their usual events and programs were unavailable but they offered craft kits for children to pick up and do at their own campsite in lieu of the usual program. We enjoyed their beautiful put-put course and ice cream stand. They did not allow outside visitors in the resort. The only thing that threw us off was that the bathhouses were closed at night and we didn't know that until we tried to use them. The resort is expanding and adding new sites. They are planting lots of trees (it looked like one at each site) so the resort should become more park-like and less parking lot as they grow. We really liked the back-in sites with water and electric hookups because they were larger and more private and wooded. The fire ring was so easy to cook on that now I'm spoiled! The camp store/gas station was convenient and well stocked with camping supplies. Golf carts are available to rent if you need them to navigate this huge park. We rode our bikes instead. There is a township park just down the road towards Geneva-on-the-Lake proper that we used to spend some leisure and exercise time near the lake. We look forward to visiting this RV resort again in the future!

    West Branch State Park Campground

    Wooded Waterside Sites

Make reservations! (6 months in advance).  Waterside sites fill up quickly! Check in is very easy as you pass the camp store on your way in. All campsites have a fire ring and picnic table.  West Branch has private, spacious, shady sites. We can launch our kayaks right from our campsite. The shower house and bathrooms are large and clean. There is even a book exchange shelf at the shower house in case of rainy days. The park office loans games and sports equipment to campers. Washers and dryers are also at the shower house. There is an outside sink to wash up dishes. Bring your boat or kayak. There are many inlets to explore or fish. There is a small beach at the campground but a larger one on the other side of the lake. There is a boat launch at the campground.  There are playgrounds for the children. An ice cream social is held on Saturday evenings that my children always love to attend. There is a newer dog park near the intersection of Rock Spring  and Esworthy roads. There are many scenic hiking trails at West Branch. Bridal trails are located on Esworthy Rd. West Branch is our favorite campground and we make sure to visit every year.

Jamestown Campground — Pymatuning State Park

great spot for direct kayak/canoe put in.

We stayed in site 218. this spot is in the smaller ( less crowded) part of Jamestown campground in Pymatuning SP. it is right on the water and has an easy access area for shore fishing and entering a kayak or canoe or some other water device. the site sits on a little bay and the otherside (more crowded) of the campground is across the water. the water is a little murky/ grassy but still good entry area. the campsite was spacious for a pa state park. the site is between the lake and the road. sites 212-222 look to be on the water with boat access, but 218 has the easiest entry. 220’s picnic Bench and fire pit sit next to the water with great views, but there is little shade. 218 had a great shady spot were you can hang 3 hammocks. there is no electricity at these sites and pretty much tent only. lots of tent space. the fire ring was decent but we moved it as it was right underneath a burnt tree. 218 was ADA accessible with a nice picnic table. restrooms were fairly close. clean... outdated, but clean.

Jamestown Campground — Pymatuning State Park

    Another trip to Jamestown Campground

My family has visited Pymatuning park many times now and try have used a variety of spots at Jamestown campground. It is large, offering multiple options for campsite types. It’s a standard PA state park campground offering bathrooms (bathrooms are older, but are being renovated July-August 2021) showers, fire ring, picnic table, etc. Campsites J-106 thru J-116 are well shaded, but are alongside route 322 which maintains consistent traffic at all hours. If the noise is not an issue, this run of tent sites are well spaced, and offer easy access to the facilities. To be away from the road (and nearer to the lake) sites J-120 thru J-128 are closer together but can be quieter (depending on your neighbors…)

The beach area is clean, and raked often. It has a playground and volleyball court. On Friday’s they have a family movie night at the amphitheater. Most Saturdays in the summer they offer crafts and activities for kids at the beach.

The surrounding area also has plenty of activities to offer: Local restaurants, ice cream, hiking, kayaking/boating, fishing, etc.

    Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

    Great State Park Campground

We just got back from our first trip to Mosquito Lake State Park Campground. All in all, it was a great experience.

We stayed in site 67, which is a waterfront site, with electric. The water is about 25 yards from the pad, but is visible from the entire site. The site was spacious, but not as private as some of the others. There is some woods between this site and the sites on either side, but other sites are visible. The fire pits and picnic tables were staggered, so it created some distance to make it feel more private.

The campground as a whole, was very quiet. We stayed from Wednesday to Friday. The group next to us seemed a little rowdy when we first pulled in, but by 10:00 there was no noise anywhere near us.

Most sites seemed pretty level from side to side, but where we were, several had a slope from front to back. Away from the waterfront, most sites looked pretty level. The amount of space between sites varied from site to site. Some sites had woods on both sides, while others were pretty open. Some had nice large grassy areas, others were much smaller. Sites from 214-224 are in a cul de sac and are water front, but they were pretty close together with very little privacy between sites, if any. They are very close to the water though.

There are bathrooms and water scatter about, but from what I saw there was only 1 shower house.

Wal-mart and other shopping and restaurants were about 3 miles away. Park was easy to get to, only one turn for us off the highway. Lake was great for kayaking and paddleboarding. Very nice dog park in a different part of the park. There is a boat launch accessible from inside the campground.

Dump station has 2 lanes which was nice when checking out. Fresh water fill up was also located near the dump station.

Guide to Orwell

Cabin accommodations near Orwell, Ohio include options at several state parks within a 30-mile radius. The area sits in Ohio's northeastern corner at approximately 900 feet elevation, with seasonal temperatures ranging from winter lows in the 20s to summer highs in the 80s. Most cabins are accessible via paved roads with the exception of some more remote locations that require gravel road travel during the final approach.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Many cabin rentals near Pymatuning Lake provide excellent fishing access. At Mosquito Lake State Park Campground, one visitor notes, "Lots of camping sites along the lake. Great lake to take the kayaks on." Fishing enthusiasts often catch walleye, bass, and panfish from shore or boat.

Swimming options: Several cabin locations offer swimming in designated areas. "Great park! Sites are spacious and level. Very clean park. Campground is flat and great for bike riding. Nice playground for kids. Dog park nearby. Camp is near beach & marina," reports one camper about Mosquito Lake State Park Campground.

Winter activities: For those seeking cabins near Orwell in colder months, West Branch State Park Campground maintains year-round cabin availability. The park offers winter hiking trails and ice fishing when conditions permit. "We can launch our kayaks right from our campsite," mentions one visitor about the summer amenities.

What campers like

Cabin proximity to water: Many visitors appreciate waterfront cabin locations. At Jamestown Campground — Pymatuning State Park, a reviewer shared, "We stayed on the pet end and got a spot near the lake. But also this meant people were walking through our site to go walk to the water."

Wildlife viewing: Cabins around Orwell offer opportunities for nature observation. "The bald eagles sit in the trees not at all bothered by us. Amazing," notes one visitor about Jamestown Campground at Pymatuning State Park.

Clean facilities: Many visitors praise the maintenance standards. According to one camper at Linesville Campground — Pymatuning State Park, "Showers, restrooms and fish cleaning station are always clean." Another adds, "The bathhouse was clean and maintained."

What you should know

Booking timeline: Most cabin reservations require advance planning. At Thompson/Grand River Valley KOA Holiday, reservations can be made online or by phone with deposits required. Their deluxe cabins book quickly during peak season.

Site variations: Some cabins have uneven approaches. As one visitor to West Branch State Park noted, "Our site was labeled slight slope. That was a joke. We were only off 2 inches side to side but front to back we had to lower the front 15 inches."

Water access clarification: Not all "waterfront" cabins have direct water access. A camper at Jamestown Campground explained, "We booked a waterfront site and were disappointed to learn that was not actually the case. There was a little bit of a swampy area behind us but the lake was further away."

Tips for camping with families

Playground amenities: Multiple cabin locations offer play structures. A visitor to Mosquito Lake State Park mentioned, "There's an epic playground for kids. If your kids are 8 and under they'll love the nature playground and nets provided to catch critters."

Beach quality considerations: Swimming areas vary by location. At Kool Lakes Family RV Park, cabins sit near both a swimming lake and a separate fishing lake, providing diverse water activities for children.

Pet restrictions: Rules vary significantly between cabin areas. "I didn't like that pets are not allowed in the non-pet area as that was where the playground and swimming beach was. Made it difficult to swim and play as a family since you can't leave dogs alone at the campsite," notes one visitor to Jamestown Campground.

Tips from RVers

Site grading challenges: Many RVers recommend bringing additional leveling blocks. At West Branch State Park, a visitor explained, "The jack was down as low as it would go and we were still off by 1.5 inches."

Campground layouts: Some facilities separate cabin areas from RV sections. At Kenisee's Grand River Campground, one camper noted, "The tent area was small (this is mostly an RV Park), but it was a good spot to stay! Showers and bathrooms available as well as electric hookups."

Water and electric configurations: Check connection locations before arrival. A visitor to Mosquito Lake pointed out, "The water fill is on an incline so when our tank was 'full' pulling away from fill station it was really only 2/3 full."
