    Overview

Cuyahoga Valley National Park is a destination for millions of visitors each year who enjoy hiking, riding the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad , biking and picnicking. Whether you need an area large enough for a family reunion or just an intimate spot for two, Cuyahoga Valley is an ideal destination. Picnic areas are scattered throughout the park. Two rustic shelters, Ledges and Octagon, are available for reservation in the Virginia Kendall Unit of Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

    Recreation

With many different facilities and attractions in the park, there is something to interest everyone. Most shelter areas have open fields for games and nearby hiking trails.Visitors enjoy riding the scenic railroad, exploring the visitor centers, catching one of the summer concerts, attending one of the ranger-guided programs, biking the Towpath Trail or picnicking in one of the park's picnic shelters.

    Facilities

Cuyahoga Valley's two shelters are fully-accessible. The Civilian Conservation Corps constructed them with American chestnut and locally quarried sandstone. The shelters are located near Ritchie Ledges, an area with approximately 2 miles of Sharon conglomerate stone cliffs about 30 feet (9m) tall. A large play field and hiking trails are available near each shelter.Ledges Shelter accommodates up to 75 people. It has two fireplaces and eight picnic tables inside, as well as eight tables in the outside pavilion and a large grill. Octagon Shelter accommodates up to 50 people. During the summer months its walls are removed; they are in place from October 15 to May 14. Seven indoor picnic tables, two fireplaces and an outdoor grill are provided. Both shelters have electricity for normal two-pronged household appliances such as coffee pots and crock pots. Drinking water is available at a drinking fountain from May 1 to September 15. Restrooms with flush toilets are available year-round.

    Natural Features

The Cuyahoga River flows through the park for 22 miles (35 km), fed by more than 190 miles (306 km) of perennial (permanent) and ephemeral (temporary) streams. The Beaver Marsh and other wetlands, many lined with cattails and dense patches of duckweed, provide a home for many of the park's reptiles and amphibians and help filter pollutants from the water.

    Nearby Attractions

Visit Brandywine Falls, the historic Boston Store Visitor Center, Ritchie Ledges, the Beaver Marsh and the Everett Road Covered Bridge. These are some of the more popular attractions in the park.

    Charges & Cancellations

Cancellations more that 14 days before arrival will receive a refund minus a $10 cancellation fee. Cancellations less than 14 days out will forfeit the entire fee. However, the reserving party may be given an opportunity to reschedule the reservation (based on availability) within 12 months of the original reservation by contacting the park.

Headwaters Park is a 926-acre reservation located in Claridon and Huntsburg townships. The property is leased by Geauga Park District from the City of Akron in a partnership that allows for conservation of natural areas, enjoyment by park visitors, and outdoor education and passive recreation. It is Geauga Park District's intent to mange this natural area and to protect the water quality for aquatic life and downstream neighbors. Prior to 1932, the east branch of the Cuyahoga River meandered through a lush ravine as it made its way through Claridon and Huntsburg townships. Picnickers enjoyed many summer afternoons along it's banks; vacationers escaped to cottages nestled around adjacent Crystal Lake and along the river's edge. When the City of Akron began purchasing land in Geauga County in 1932, the cottages and neighboring farmhouses were moved and a dam was built to impound the waters in East Branch Reservoir. Having secured a stable water supply for the businesses and homes in their community, City of Akron officials opened the reservoir and surrounding land to local residents in 1959. In 1996, Geauga Park District's Board of Park Commissioners signed an agreement to lease the land and reservoir, and renamed the area Headwaters Park because of its location at the upper reaches of the Cuyahoga River. Visitor activities are regulated by Geauga Park District in accordance with the City of Akron in order to achieve mutual stewardship goals of protecting natural resources and water quality. Camping is available by permit in the designated tent pad or lean-to sites. Reservations for all facilities can be made online or by calling the Park District office.

    Unhappy camper - again

I told my wife that this was the rotten place that we stayed at before. She insisted that was somewhere else but there we were, all the people complaining about the nasty manager lady as we are swimming by AND the creepy, chubby manager dude with the grey goatee, ogling the little girls a little too long. Why are those people still there?? All she does is sit outside the office and smoke cigarettes and he creeps around. Everyone hates them and will smile to their faces but they're horrible!

Pros: paved roads, mostly clean bathrooms and two swimming pools. Cons: Teeny, tiny sites. Bingo hall bathrooms are gross. Awful, rotten egg smelling water. The beds in the cabin rentals are rock hard. Horrible WiFi. Good luck if you’re there and the electric cuts out. Very few activities (which you will also hear about"there used to be so many activities" "Lisa never has any activities any more") Good grief, the people are unhappy but I guess, too cheap to move on to a better place? The entire staff complains about them constantly, especially Rhonda in the office. I just came in to buy ice, lady, I don't need to hear about much you hate your boss!

I would suggest you keep looking rather than tolerate this toxic place and all the unhappy seasonal people and employees. Save your money and vacation time for a nice place with decent management.

    Cabin

Last August rented Cabin. It was beautiful and very clean. The owners were great and very helpful. !! Cabins are a little high in price. No WiFi,. KOA should lower the prices due to that. Activities are great keeps the kids interested. KOA should have on all camping sites Life Guard if there is water sports involved.Game room was nice and clean.Change machine needs to stay stocked.Fishing lake was great. I think with full swing in Season they should offer more activities for adults too.Camp Store should be more orangized. Bathhouse was very clean!.Trash was picked up every day and the Park very clean.! We have booked another Cabin for May 2021. They have a limited rental on Life jacket s. Bring ur own.!

    Happy Camping

Relax, breath, and camp. Perfect spot.

This Campground is quiet, full of fun, for families or older people. Beautiful area.
Many pull through lots, with patios. 50. 30. Full hookup, (sewer and Electric) back in, pull through, tent sites, cabins, teepees. Swimming pool, private bathrooms and showers. Fishing lake, swimming lake, trails. Children play areas. Basketball, bad mitten/volleyball, Dog wash, dog parks (2), private fenced dog sites. (2)- pull through site. Golf cart rentals, and seasonal sites that are being updated, but all are decorated nicely, and kept up.
KOA is revamping some of this campground. Work in progress, but awesome stay.

    A Traditional KOA Experience

This was a Fall camping experience in a cabin as we knew it would be cold in the evenings.  We also had a non-camper with us so this was a nice compromise.  We had a cozy cabin with 2 bathrooms.  We also had a small kitchen where we could cook when we didn't want to cook over the fire.  This was another way for us to social distance as COVID-19 was still an issue.

I also took photos of the camping bathrooms as each KOA does it a little differently. You will notice that the bathroom is unisex.  It is a single bathroom (toilet and shower).  This is in the center of the campground.  The bathroom photos below are not of the cabin.

The cabin you see here is the Deluxe. "Deluxe Cabin(More than two Bathrooms), Patio Deluxe Cabin(w/ Bathroom)- Evergreen KL8-9-10 Perfect for large family or two couples with two queen bedrooms, sleeping loft, 1 1/2 baths, kitchenette, 3 tvs located in quiet corner with shade trees. Sorry, Not Pet Friendly! Linens are included in all seasons except Winter. Please bring pool towels." Taken from Reservation Email.

For 2 nights it totaled $153.00 which is a good price compared to other cabins we were looking at within the region.  We could have had others camping in the tent section of the campground so it is an easy way to have a mixed crowd for a camping outing.

I did type in some information into the Special Requests within my reservation booking online, as I had a question about who had to pick up the key as a friend lived closer.  No one responded and I had to call them.

Cabins Check in is at 3PM and Check out is at 12 PM

We were able to buy firewood from the KOA camp office. They bring it to your campsite and we were able to grill hotdogs and other food items on our camp fire.  Do read the general information closely and look at number 15 for a free scoop of ice cream.

https://www.whitehousefruitfarm.com/donuts  We did a donut run and explored the farm for our outing for the day.

We also spent the day checking out a local mill https://www.millcreekmetroparks.org/visit/places/mill-creek-park/lantermans-mill/

    Great Find!

Here's what's great about this campground situated at an easy drive from major cities like Columbus and Cleveland...its scenic, a fully loaded campground with bathhouses, parks, hiking paths, swimming resivoir with boat rental...we highly recommend renting a pontoon for the day and hanging out in the resivoir for swimming and lounging! It's both relaxing and nice to get away from the beach crowd!

    Excellent cabin camping

This was my second time staying here, I felt the need to write an updated review. I stayed in cabin 4 and was very impressed very clean and spacious probably could sleep 8 people. If you are looking for a place to stay while fishing for trout and steelhead this is your spot. They are directly on elk creek for the finest fishing imaginable. Campsite offers tent camping but it’s mostly in a open field. If your going to stay there don’t mess around just stick with the cabins. Uncle Johns is run by husband and wife, doesn’t seem to be any other staff so you need to have some patience.

    Very nice holiday KOA

This is absolutely one of the nicer KOAs I’ve been at. Well kept, nice size, mostly level /gravel sites with grass. Pavilion picnic areas throughout. 3 ponds. Nice pool, a few play areas. Tent, seasonal, short-stay, cabins. All very nice! Bathrooms/showers immaculate! About 10 minutes off the highway. Nice trees everywhere and sites are good size! Off the road and quiet! Very pleased with it! Walmart just down the road and close to Cuyahoga National Park (lots of hiking).

Great Lively Place with lots of Amenities

Starting off, everyone from the employees to the other campers were super friendly! My boyfriend and I rented The Park Model Cabin which was sort of a half trailer with a full bathroom and full kitchen. The bed was the only detractor of our trip, as it was mostly springs. We brought our air mattress in for the second night and slept much better. The themed weekends throughout the season are fun and festive and there are a lot of activities to do and participate!

    A place for the men

This is not really a family campground. They have quite a few cabins some looked nice some not so nice. I stayed in what they called the train car. I only recommend that for a group of guys only there for the world class fishing. All in all if you are looking for a roughing it experience while you are slaying monster steel head look no further. The owner and staff were very nice and helpful with the surrounding area. Can't wait to go back

    Gross & Rundown

I don’t have much to say about this campground but to start off on a high note the pool was nice. Now the reasons for our low rating. WiFi was nonexistent, everything was dirty and run down. Our RV site was ok. Family rented a cabin and it was disgusting. Dirty furniture-dishes-run down. Toilet looked like someone died in it. For $250 a night our recommendation is get a hotel-cheaper and cleaner (which is what our family ended up doing). Oh and letting permanent sites fly all sorts of political flags makes this KOA unwelcoming and honestly a little scary. Do not waste your money here.

Linesville Campground — Pymatuning State Park

Great Park, Close to the Water!

The Linesville Campground is a mid-sized state park campground with level, wooded sites, right on the Pymantuning Lake. A short walk to the marina which hires boats and sells snacks& fuel. There is a campground fish cleaning station with complimentary fridges/freezers.

The amenities are well kept with plenty of space, located in the center of the park. There is also a laundry. They accommodate tents, RV’s and have cabins also. RV dump station and water fill up conveniently located in the center of the grounds.

The township of Linesville is just 5min drive from the park entrance. Great weekend escape from Pittsburgh. They welcome furry friends!

    Labor Day Weekend

I knock off a start for the neighbor who apparently stays there annually, who stumbled into our campsite in route to annoy other campers. She was visually drunk and kinda ruined our last night. But on the lighter note the man who is the caretaker and owner is a nice man he was kind enough to get us firewood on a night we came back later and had forgot to stop along the way. The lady who works the front desk is very blunt and a business only kind of gal which I like but others may find rude. The grounds were beautiful and for the most part quite. The restrooms near the entrance are their main with showers and in the ladies room one stall. They are dated but function well regardless, there are port-a-John’s around the tent sites that are closer but they are what they are. The owner told us best time to come back is fall/winter and the cabins are heated. We would come back if the lady is evicted or if we can find a spot further away from permeant tenants.

    Clean and fun.

We stay here a couple of times per year and every time it’s a blast. The swimming pond has inflatables and boat rentals. There’s good fishing, and typically lots of activities. The place is clean and friendly with a pretty good selection at the camp store.

    Great little state park

My family has camped at West Branch for years, and it makes for a great, quick getaway. Summers can be very crowded, it's always best after the kids go back to school and it cools off a bit. Great swimming, and Nelson Ledges is not to be missed!

    Nice, but busy!

West Branch is one of the best-known family campgrounds in NE Ohio. And it's not hard to understand why. Full amenities, clean facilities, and a nice lake round out the picture of a great place to get some family R&R.

    Here's what you can expect:

    1. It's Busy.

Like, really busy. Be sure to book early as spots fill up often. Sites are fairly close to each other, but most people seem respectful of space and limits.

    2. It's Accessible.

West Branch is a quick drive from Akron, Canton, Cleveland, and Youngstown - hence the draw. if you live anywhere close, there's no reason NOT to check this place out!

    3. It's Fun (but a bit loud)

If you're looking for quiet, West Branch might not be the place for you. Since the lake has not real HP limits, you'll hear boats motoring quite a bit throughout the day.

    4. It's got everything :)

Seriously. There's nothing else you could want. Hiking trails, swimming, a fully stocked office for the essentials you forgot.

Quick tip: Bring swimsuits. There are plenty of places to swim in the well-kept beaches or off a boat. West Branch is a great family getaway for summer swimming!

    Relaxing lakefront sites

Campsite G is the one. It is an open lean to with a stone fireplace facing the inside of the three sided wooden structure. Various watercraft rentals available, but look at availability before you go if that is included in your plans. Park has tent sites as well. Site G is a great setting and therefore books out more readily than other sites. Best for relaxation, chill kayaking, fishing, horseback riding, and shorter walks. Four stars because it is not a vast wilderness adjacent experience.

    Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™- Akron/Canton

Great for kids, adults may feel it lacks a true camping vibe

Jellystone Akron-Canton was a nice place. My mom wanted to go there because she thought the kids would like it more with all the activities. It was my family with 3 kids aged 11-13, my sister's family with kids aged 5-15, my parents, my adult daughter and her 3yo son, and my brother. You are only permitted one tent per site or there's an additional $15/night charge. They did not charge us for our additional tent which we decided to pop for the kids after night one.As a camper you get a wristband. The wristband gets you access to the mini golf and pool. This campground has a really nice mini golf course! It's free for campers but the public can come and pay to play. Crowds weren't an issue at the mini golf while we were there. The pool was busy. Many poolgoers were public payers. The pool hours were only 11a-7p. It would be nice if they would close the pool to the public a few hours of the day to allow campers exclusive access. There are lifeguards and hourly swimmer breaks. The pool seemed clean.

They have an activity barn where you can make diff crafts (a fee for the nicer ones of course). Our kids did a few of the included crafts and seemed to enjoy them. It would be helpful if the craft options were made more clear, with costs and an example of the finished product.

There were daily activity offerings (rides around the park on a wagon, a firetruck ride, yogi bear visits, food truck Fridays, bingo, daily flag raising, scavenger hunts, etc. - check their website https://akroncantonjellystone.com for schedules. I HIGHLY recommend you download the CampersApp (park code YOGIAC) if you decide to stay here -or any park that utilizes it- because it gives you reminders and updates of what's going on, weather, pay per use services (firewood, ice, etc). It is easy to lose track of time and miss something you wanted to do and this App helps you remember. I think our kids would've been just as happy at a state park because they've been raised to appreciate the outdoors but could see how this could be a draw for kids still learning that and needing constant entertainment. Our kids did enjoy many of the offerings here 🙂.

We only tried the nachos from the food counter. However, we had daily ice cream! The ice cream flavors were unique and DELICIOUS and if you go you have to try the raspberry oreo!

You have to buy their firewood and cannot bring your own. The downside of that is that it was waaaay over priced ($6.75 for 6-8 cuts).

We are tent campers for now. The designated tent spots are near a road that can be a little busy (Hoover Ave.) and at night the campground was louder than we're used to but didn't keep us from sleeping. There are quiet hours but they weren't enforced while we were there. There were two groups staying in cabins who were arguing loudly outside and playing loud music. This campground is not in the woods. It's mostly a plot of land, situated beside roadways and field with some trees and a creek, with camper, cabin and tent sites. Part of the reason we liked the tent sites was because they were tree lots next to a creek. There's less of a woodsy wilderness feel for sure so we prefer state park type campgrounds or park like environments for this reason.

In addition to the above, for the kids there's a huge slide (the burlap .....you sit on to slide down was really filthy because it's left out in the elements) a gaga pit, a playground, basketball, human foosball and pedal carts. As a camper you could check out balls for free. I'm not sure why but the pedal carts weren't being used by anyone. We were here a few years ago and my son ended up in a creek on his after sliding off the gravel road.

The cost to stay here is relatively high but if you truly take advantage (and are able to) of all that's offered, it's reasonable.

The shower house was very nice. Updated showers and flush toilets. There were also sporadic bathrooms around the campground.

The workers seemed friendly enough. Other campers seemed grumpy. We did get a huge storm the first night we were there so maybe that upset them?

So, if you're camping with kids or like to play unlimited mini golf, eat delicious ice cream or swim in a pool while you camp, I highly recommend this place. Otherwise, it's mediocre at best.

Jamestown Campground — Pymatuning State Park

    Peaceful Camping on the Lake

We really enjoyed camping at Lake Pymatuning. We had site J522, which is tucked back in a quiet loop. We camped for the first time in our (new to us) pop-up camper. The site was not level, but we were able to get the tent trailer level without too much effort. Bringing our bikes was a blast as we were able to bike down to the beach for swimming and we took our bikes to Meadville to do the Ernst bike trail (recommended - a paved, flat, easy 6.3 mile cycling trail through the woods and along the river).

Flush toilets and hot showers are available in the bath houses. The showers do not have a changing area within the shower unit or an area to store your towel/clothes within the shower unit. There is a central dressing room with towel hooks and 4-5 showers connected to the central dressing room. This was not a problem when I took a shower, as I was the only one using the area, but could be problematic if it was full and there was no place to set items you want to keep dry.

Fantastic campground for biking, swimming, boating, and having a peaceful getaway.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park - CAMPING NO LONGER OFFERED

    Cycle, camp, cycle, camp...

Very few people know that there are MANY camping options along the towpath designed for cyclists and hikers! The Stanford House campground is the only one that's relatively easy to find online, but there are many other options.

We just completed a nearly 200-mile bikepacking trip, starting in Cleveland. We followed the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath, Sippo Valley Trail, into the Amish Countryside to Mohican State Park, then on to the Mohican Valley Trail and the Kokosing Gap Trail.

Here are some others along the towpath (north to south) between Cleveland and Massillon:

    Never again

We came here the weekend of August 14, 2021 and it will be our last! Friday night was ok, but when Saturday afternoon came all hell broke loose when the electricity went out in over half the campground! We all heard that the electric would be back up within and hour and a half. After about two hours I went to the office to find out if there was any new word on what was going on with the electric because I had started dinner in a crockpot and was told that, my refrigerator will keep my food cold for up to two days and multiple excuses why the power outage was not their fault and not their problem. At which time one of the owners stepped out of her office and stated that they have two pools to cool off which had nothing to do with the electric and dinner issues at hand! Then check out on Sunday came which was very “pleasant”; the kid at the desk was very kind asked how our stay was, when we told him that it wasn’t the greatest because of the power outage he handed us a slip for one free weekend on our next trip to be used by October. We explained to him that when we get home that we would be cleaning up our camper to sell and asked if it was possible for a partial refund on this trip; at which time the same owner came out with an attitude just about screaming that they don’t even have to offer anyone anything and ripped up the free night stay that was off to us. I calmly explained to her what I told the kid and also explained that not only would we be able to camp there again this year, but will never come back due to how they treat the people that just want to enjoy a weekend get away. I wouldn’t recommend this campground to anyone. Ignorant owners, hearing power outages are common there by other campers and not so clean bath houses!

    Avoid!!

We stayed here for 4 days and 3 nights, I will not be returning ever. List of things that were horribly wrong with this campground..-The whole place smelled like rotting sewage, the public bathrooms had pee and poop all over the floor like the toilets had been backed up and they were like that the whole time we were there.-The playground was covered in caution tape, so it could not be used.-The billards room looks like if you even touch anything, the whole place is going to fall in. The ceiling was falling in, the pool table was a mess, there were broken darts for the dart board, the stereo did not work, the trash was over filled and was infested with bugs.-The owner is horribly rude, we had an issue with something and we tried talking to him about it and the answer we received was"yeah yeah" and walked off.-The swimming pool is a lot smaller than the pictures on their website, by probably more than half the size.-The lake is covered in green stuff, so fishing if very hard to do there.-We stayed with another group of people and we both had golfcart rentals which they had to double pay for because they messed up their reservation, they also lost their golfcart for a good chunk of the day because the tires were bad and it had brake issues and they never received any type of refund or anything for that.-Were yelled at for having children on laps on the golfcart(one being a baby) and was told they had to be seated. So we had to get out and walk,(even though there was a lot of golfcarts where there were people sitting on laps and not getting yelled at.)-The day we were leaving we tied one of our dogs up outside to return the golfcart(which the dog can't be in) and we already had the camper packed up. So we tied her up in a shady area at the site with water for not(5minutes,) the owner was at our site and yelling at my 10 year old daughter for leaving the dog out. 1- she is 10 and 2- the dog is not allowed on the carts or allowed in the store and you have a strict 12pm return time for those. She was perfectly fine for those 5 minutes. There were a few other times that the experience was just not enjoyable and I am sure the owner will comment back and deny everything like he does in any post that has anything bad to say about him. Was a horrible experience and would avoid this campground at all costs. There are so many better campgrounds and for a cheaper price!!

    Hidden Treasure on I-80

Coyahoga Valley NO was our first stop on the planned trip(s) to each NP. What a jewel. Tucked in between Akron and Cleveland, this quiet NP has numerous hiking trails, historic buildings and the remains of the Ohio and Erie Canal. Well worth the side trip or destination.
