    Harrison Lake State Park Campground

    Great site!

Our first time at this park and got lucky with our site. The pad was a little unlevel but easy to fix. The fire ring was fantastic and had pea gravel around it so if it rained it wasn’t a muddy mess. Great site with grass for tents and no one behind us besides a cornfield. We had a sidewalk next to us to the bathroom but there were so many bathrooms we didn’t have very many people pass by. It had pretty decent shade but unfortunately a sweet gum tree nearby so watch out if you’re barefoot. The shower house was nice but no benches in the stall and only had curtains. They were very clean and the camp hosts were friendly. We are headed back in September!

    Nothing seems enforced here

Stayed 5 days. Had a FHU site, of which there's a lot here. That all worked fine. Almost no trees here. None of the usual painted lines on the pavement to indicate your site boundaries, which sucks. You have to guess, and hope your neighbor doesn't spread out.

Nothing seems enforced here, and I mean nothing. Rarely saw anyone patrolling the park, never saw any staff checking sites before the next camper came in. My site had dog droppings and cigarette butts in the firepit. Neighbors had FOUR vehicles on site, two more than the rules. Witnessed endless speeding and people going the wrong way on the roads. Without exaggerating, 80% of the cars were going too fast, 75% going the wrong way. No one seems to care or enforces anything. I think the supervisor here should be fired or retrained. I camp in 4 to 8 MI state parks per summer, this is the only one where it felt like no one cares.

They need some "wrong way" signs and "speed limit 10" signs. (15 is too high, cause 15 means 20 to people, 10 means 15... ). Then they need to care.

At least the bathrooms were clean.

You can get TV from Detroit or Toledo, and T-Mobile service was ok.

Groceries and many dining options not far off.

We're 50/50 on staying here ever again.

    Great Campground

The sites in the tent-only section were well sized and shady. We were on the lake side and were able to get some nice views of Harrison Lake. There were families on either side of us with little kids who were well behaved, albeit a little noisy (i.e a really young child was screaming for about 2 minutes straight non-stop at 9 am until finally the parents said something). Bathroom facilities (single occupancy with shower) were about a 3 minute walk and were clean. Good stay!

    Great spot!

Wonderful views from site 117. We booked the last spot of the night. It was an easy pull through with water, electric, and sewer hookup. You are right across from some good walking trails and walking distance to the beach. Lots of electric scooters, dogs, and bikes around.

    Big Modern But Nice

My family only got to stay here for a night while traveling. But it was very nice, in a modern state campground kind of a way. The sites were spacious, flat, and fairly private. There was plenty of room for riding bikes around, including a paved path to the lake. One that I would go back to.

    Wholesome environment, Mayflies galore

I had a fantastic and totally welcoming weekend at Maumee Bay State Park with my dog. First time taking him camping and I was so appreciative of the facilities at the campgrounds & the park - I was able to focus on making sure he was comfortable instead of worrying about anything else!

Campsite neighbors were very respectful - lots of RVers and large family groups. The park store was clean & efficient and the park itself offered coffee & donuts every morning for a dollar. Very sweet!

One item of note is that there are sooooo many mayflies around - flying, landing on you & your gear, and oftentimes covering the ground around the park. Totally fine if you’re not shy of bugs, but something to be mindful of.

    Ohio Gem

We spent two nights here on our trip to Michigan. We were quite pleased with the campsites and how large they are. You don't feel like you are close to anyone because most sites are surrounded by trees and shrubs. If you are looking to stay more than two nights keep in mind that there are only electric hook ups, so you have to fill your fresh water tank before you set up. Water fill stations are conveniently located throughout the campsite. Don't forget your bikes for this campsite! There are miles of paved bike paths throughout the campsite and a short ride to the lake.

    Pleasent park, tons of wildlife

Nice park very clean. Nice bike trails and large campsites. First time at Lake Erie don’t know if I would swim in it… but there is a large beach as well.

    Secluded sites

Sites are very private with hedges and trees dividing each site. The campground and bathrooms were always very clean. Great biking, kayaking and fantastic pickleball courts.

    Maumee Bay State Park Campground

    Large Park and Campground

We followed our RV GPS right into Oregon, OH, and the park. There were plenty of signs to Maumee SP and then signage through this huge park to the campground(CG) area. Check in was quick and easy at the gate. There’s plenty of RV parking out front and you walk into the gate office building to check in. As we were on electric only, we asked about water and were told we could go to the dump station or in our CG loop. We choose the dump station where there are 2 potable spigots, one on each side of the 2 dump lanes station. In retrospect, we were glad we filled at the dump station because the spigot near our site was broken and we would have blocked traffic. As a side note, the spigot was fixed the next morning. We then drove to site 137 with 50/30/20 AMP but no water or sewer. Back-in was easy with the site being large enough for our 39’ 5th wheel and F450. However, we did park a little horizontally to ensure we were well off the road as this was the 4th of July weekend. We choose the 119-144 Loop, site 137 because of the nice water view off the back of the site. Many of the sites in the CG, and especially in our loop have shrubs or hedges between the sites providing great privacy. What we did not know was that 137 lacked shrubs on the yard side thus, we had a clear view of the camp host site next to us. Also, the loop's power station was on our site. We noted after our arrival that sites 136 and 139(also with water view) were the most spacious and private in this loop. Those two sites were among the CG’s top 10 sites in our opinion. We had 4 bars on Verizon and plenty of OTA channels. Due to trees within some sites, satellite could be iffy. Within the CG, two loops share a central restroom/shower house. The shower house near the activities shelter also has a small laundry. The first loop has the CG’s full hookup sites but only sites up to the turn-around, i.e. 1-11 and 21-29; the sites in the cul-de-sac part of the loop were electric only. We also noted that the best or most private sites tend to be on the backside of the turn-arounds in each loop. We enjoyed the multiple bike and walking trails plus the golf course. We took our dogs for a walk on the Mouse Trail that’s a grass and dirt trail that goes around the entire campground area. We enjoyed the trail although some spots were muddy due to recent rain. However, we were surprised how close the western side of the CG is to a subdivision and realized this was where all the firework noise came from over the 4th of July weekend. The subdivision is about 150 to 300 yards through the woods away depending on your site. There are also two large beach areas near the lodge and golf course that we did not utilize but a lot of people did and there was plenty of space available. If we were to stay here again, we’d probably stay on the eastern side loops away from the sub-division.

    Peaceful and beautiful

The ODNR website failed to separate electric/water hookup from electric only with water fill stations. The park is beautiful and the spots are well shaded however on the smaller size.

    Cannaley Treehouse Village

    Hidden Gem 💎

This little village was so much fun for my 2 little people! I think 1 night is plenty as the site itself doesn't offer a ton of amenities but there are some trails that you can walk/bike without leaving base. They also have showers which is a bonus! There is a coffee shop/brewery but my understanding is that it's only open on Friday/Saturday.

    Bare bones

Difficult to get potable water. Only electric on the sites. Some sites don't have electric hookup. Dump station is in a completely different section of the state park. We arrived around 8 pm and check-in station was already closed. Luckily they have a sign with name and site number. Not much to do other than trails.

    Camper

It's a nice campground but does need to allow people to book long time or pull into campground when the person has pass and they should not give campsites away without checking first.

    Winter Camping

This is our 4th time to this park but the first trip in the off season. Only one campground loop was open, but they did have a shower house and bathroom open, only 1 potable water pump was open and the dump station was open but the black tank flush water was shut off.

There are no staff around so if there is a problem you have to get in touch with ODNR.

The trails were still maintained but some sections were closed with posted signs that it was hunting season.

It was still a great trip and one of our favorite parks. I believe all or most of the sites are 50 amp. We have Verizon phone and had great coverage at the park.

    Love the Boardwalk

This park is huge with lots to explore. They campground offers several hundred sites all electric and most have been upgraded to 50 amp. There are a few full hook up sites.
Also they have a camp store, nature center , beach , hiking and bike trails , boardwalk, golf course and bike rentals. There is also a nice lodge for those not wanting to camp.

    Calm

We stayed two nights at 16N electric site with our 16ft camper. Lots of room, and sits on higher ground. Mosquitoes were crazy no matter the bug protectants used but it had been a very wet year and the park was scheduled to spray soon. Lake life is where it’s at, plenty to do on/in the water! Bike and hiking trails. Very laid back and calm at this campground. Many older RVs and not the typical monsters that you increasingly see. Plus people were outside being active, or just relaxing at their campsites. The grounds were well maintained but the potable water within camp was not. I do recommend this campground for a relaxing campout.

My favorite State Park so far!

LOVED this park.  There is a great amount of greenery between sites, bathrooms were good.  So much to do you don't have to leave the park:  great bike paths / hiking paths, a lodge with restaurant, cabins, golfing, kayak rental, beaches, tennis, basketball.  Really, almost anything you can think of.

SO MANY BIRDS - definitely a bird watchers paradise.

NOTE:  if you have time, the Toledo Botanical Garden was free and very much worth a trip!

    Maumee Bay State Park Campground

THIS is how campgrounds should be!!

This campground is so thoughtfully planned out, it's amazing. Every site is separated by a line of brush/bushes, maybe trees, so that you aren't jammed up against your neighbors. Some sites have shade, some do not, but at least you have shrubbery. The bathrooms were clean and some had doors you could lock yourself in- I appreciated this safety feature.

I'm sure it gets crazy in the summer, but I was there during the week in September and it was nice and quiet. There is an awesome marsh trail, a beautiful beach on lake Erie, a hill you can climb up for great views, marsh trails and more.  You could easily spend 3 days here and not get bored.

I'm almost reluctant to review this because I don't want it to get too crowded! Shh! Don't tell anyone!

Great amenities for kids and groups

We were there for a group meetup so the campground was very accommodating. However, it would be an entirely different experience for weekend solo camping. There are a lot of seasonal campers and then our group.

Your family will love the amenities. The sites are very close together. Whatever you do, do not come before the 2 pm check-in time because they will charge you even if you’re with a group!
